... Lots of interesting history from the 12 women who originally explored it, to the days as an underground speakeasy, to the concerts held down there for years! I am so glad I stopped. It is the only drive-through cavern in North America, and there are only 3 others in the world.

Tomorrow, heading for Mason, Ohio. There's snow on the way here, but I think I will miss most of it (fingers crossed)!

This resort is another one with a beautiful pool (and another one available to us through Resort Parks International).
We went into Hermann, toured the Stone Hill Winery, the Hermann Wurst Shoppe, stopped in a Brewery (for Greg, of course), and then had a bite of BBQ. A good day, despite the oppressive heat (which seems to be the theme of this summer's travels!)

We decided against following the advice of one hotel receptionist to head out east where the budget motels were, as we'd just come from there, so went west instead, ...

6:30 am start hopefully to beat the wind and any storms coming through later. Glad to see the last of Oklahoma. Stopped in Rolla, MO. So far we've missed the rain. Rain came right after we got settled in our room. Lucky for us We seemed calmer tonight. We picked up some dinner, watched some TV. We seem to be able to not think about it every minute and had a pretty nice evening. We know we'll be home tomorrow. That ...

... road through Gillespie and Staunton to the point where the 1920s branch of Route 66 meets the post-1930 version and continued towards St Louis, Missouri via Hamel, Edwardsville and Mitchell. Over the years there have been many versions of Route 66 into St Louis and my guide suggested following an alternative route via Illinois Route 3 but not before visiting the Chain of Rocks bridge which has a bend in the middle as it crosses ...
