      Welcome to fantasy island...

We took the ferry over to the island of Koh Samet. It is a smaller island that was recommended to us by John Callaghan. As it was early evening when we got there, we threw our bags straight in the room and went for a few beers on the beach. As it had been dark when we arrived, it was not until the next day we realised how pretty the island is. Soft white sand and crystal clear water which is very warm (slightly better ...

A couple of days in Trat

So yesterday we left Koh Kong by about afternoon time, after having the most amazing breakfast at Fat Sam's (beans on toast with cheese and an iced coffee) we changed our money into Bhaat and took a tuk tuk to the Thai boarder. The drive to the boarder only took ten minutes and when we got there it was surprisingly easy (we weren't ripped off which I know most people are) although it was pouring with rain and the process took quite a long time. Still though, I stamp my feet at him and he scuttles down the drain he came up. Man, did I mention it was ******* hot today? Creepy German guy and his ...

... island. We stayed at Siam Beach Resort, on Lonely Beach, which looks lovely in the promotional pictures and is in a perfect setting but unfortunately requires a huge amount of work to repair and update. The room itself was very good but the communal buildings had holes in the flimsy roofs where rain poured in. Everything was damp and it poured for days. Seeing the monsoon rains did make it clear how difficult it is to maintain buildings in this climate. Wood rots quickly and anything metal rusts while ...

... our hotel, we were sold. The room was clean and the resort looked cute. It consisted of small houses, which were rounded by green nature like palmtrees, grass, hills, bushes, etc. Not to mention the amazing, quite large, pool. It was so peaceful and quiet, really a place where you could walk around or sit down and just relax. We stayed in a village that was situated a bit further away from the more touristic villages but not too far though. I think it was a ...
