We hired a car and drove north out of Victoria, past the port of Nanaimo. The countryside was quite flat with low hills and cliffs, one of which, Malahat Point, had a great look out over the Georgia Strait. ... British Columbia has a population of about 6,500,000 people – more than NZ and is a huge province. About twice as big as Texas, is larger than most of Europe combined and it is a lovely city from what we can see. The city was originally associated with the mighty gold rushes of the north in the 1860's and because of its mild climate now reigns as a popular tourist and retirement community.

It is still raining moderately heavy and we are walking around the city and ...

I spent the rest of the evening with Sophie, Franzi, John and Dianna and made plans with them to do stuff the next day. I also thought I was really useful that 2 of them had cars because it is so hard to get around Tofino without one.
