Travel Blogs from San Diego
For those of you playing along at home, Tom and I actually made it to San Diego and resisted the urge to return to Vegas in time for the 12noon tournament at Caesars.....
We arrived in San Diego at around noon and as we drove into the city we saw signs to the zoo, so of course we headed straight there. San Diego Zoo is famous the world …

The whole time we were doing that I was thinking about Rehovot and the sirens going off there and all around Israel. All my friends and family who are running for cover in the shelters. Hoping Prince wasn't going crazy from the sound of the sirens (turns out he seems to be enjoying going into the stairwell with all the people ...

After dinner there was a lego contest which Cole and Millie came runners up for their cave and trex dino. Once again the kids had a swim before dinner and I sat wrapped in towels until Gang saved me. I booked tomorrow night at Hollywood BLVD hotel - hope its ...

Historical Traveler Reviews BEST WESTERN PLUS Blue Sea Lodge San Diego
I had a great stay at the BW Blue Sea Lodge!I am especially pleased with the excellent and very professional staff at the hotel. Front Desk and maintenance.I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who appreciateds a good atmosphere and nice rooms!
Great location,poor performance
Despite the advantages of a wonderful beachfront location, my stay at this hotel left me quite dissatisfied. Unfriendly and even surly front desk, expensive and inadequate parking, and very small rooms will ensure that I look elsewhere on my next visit.
Alright, I'll just say it: its not the best hotel out there. ITs in a pretty good location however. ITs right on the boardwalk and the boardwalk goes everywhere! i was there in march and the weather was great so there were people everywhere, including the homeless men. our room was on the second floor, and right across from a public bathroom.
Not Worth the Price
I'll start with the negatives and end w/ the positives. There's no bath tub; the bathroom is big enough for one person; the decor is so out of date; the locals hang out in the whirlpool at late hours; and the rooms are way over priced. Positives: the view from our room was amazing; the staff was very friendly and accomodating; the lady that runs the little food shop in the lobby is very nice; and the location is unbeatable. If you've got the money to blow away this would be the place for you, but it's definitely not anywhere close to being a 3-5 star hotel.
New spacious, comfortable
We had an excellent room with a view of the ocean, right on the boardwalk. The rate was great and the room was large, comfortable and new.
My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in May 2002. I agree with other reviewers that it is very pricey for the quality of the rooms and grounds. We had an oceanfront room with a small balcony just feet from the Pacific Beach Boardwalk, which is the best feature. But the room was very small (we had to go single-file in the tiny space between the dresser and the bed), and the furnishings and the whole hotel rather shabby looking. They were also remodeling when we were there; which didn't add to the ambiance. The worst feature I thought was the parking: a very small underground garage, with incredibly tiny parking spaces and aisles to drive in, and basically not enough parking for the number of guests. Stay here if the beach location is most important, but not if you're used to classy hotels.
Expensive but shabby
Our room had a nice view but we had no bathtub. For the price we were paying I at least expected a bathtub. The room was pretty clean but the air conditioning unit had wires sticking out of it and it dripped water. The hot tub was out of service the whole time we were there. When we went to check in, we discovered that you access the lobby from the alley. However, there was no place to park while checking in so I had to park illegally while I checked in. They do provide underground parking but you have to pay for it.
For the price paid, this was NOT a first class hotel. There is a daily parking fee and insufficient parking for guests. Most of the time, we were unable to get a parking space in underground garage and had to circle the block several times to find street parking. The bathroom was deteriorated-- where you have no bathroom counter, just a basin sink. I had to call front desk for roll of toilet paper-- we were not given extra roll and the roll in the bathroom was changed after 2 days. The hotel is noisy-- we were constantly awakened late at night by noisy guests. The pool/spa are very small and in use at all hours. Most of the time, 1 hotel employee was busy behind the front desk and people formed a line to get service. Keep looking for a hotel in San Diego and don't waste time or money at BWestern Blue Sea Lodge. What a disapointment!
Rude employee at Best Western
All the employees were extremely nice, except one female desk clerk that was extremely rude!!!! As they say....it only takes one bad apple, in this case to ruin our stay at the BW Blue Sea Lodge. We were there for my son's homecoming from the Middle East and had a nice time in SD, but not at this hotel. My son answered the phone and she was rude to him first and then I took the call and she was rude to me also. I should have reported her to management but was too upset at the time. The room and bathroom is extrememly small for the price. Don't care to stay there again.
Room size too small
I have never paid so much and gotten so little as with the room we just had. It was an oceanfront queen bed and two people could not walk between the foot of the bed and the dresser at the same time. Other than that, the room was adequate. But I felt for the large amount of money, we certainly did not receive our moneys worth. Very disappointed. But a beautiful view. I would recommend the hotel, but definitely ask for a room with 2 queens.
