Day 11: Our Second Day at Grand Tetons

A travel blog entry by acombslane

Day 11: Today we had a slower start to our day. We needed a bit of recovery time from our late night at the rodeo. We went to Grand Teton National Park and explored some new areas. We started at the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve. We toured the visitor center and took a 1.5 mile hike. I had hoped we could make it to the lake overlook, which would …

Day 10: We spent a good part of our day at Grand Teton National Park. This mountain chain is very impressive, partly because the area around it is so flat and the mountains jut up out of the ground to "grand" heights. Even in summer, the peaks are capped with snow!

We started at the Visitor Center and listened to a program conducted by a …

Began the day by watching Old Faithful erupt. It's really fascinating to see the water being expelled to heights of 106-184 feet. The interval between eruptions is about 90 minutes. It lasts 1 1/2 to 5 minutes. Then I took a stroll along the boardwalk to view the various geysers such as Castle Geyser, Spasmodic Geyser, and Crested Pool.

Took a 2-hour guided float trip on the Snake River. It was an exceptional opportunity to view the Grand Tetons up close. As we floated along, our tour guide described the various animals which inhabit the area. Especially the beavers, who construct dams with tree branches. We had the chance to see a Moose and Bald Eagle.

Day 9: Long haul to Jackson Hole, Wyoming

Day 9: I've been on east coast time since we left a week ago, waking around 5:30 to 6:00 mountain time. Today was the first day I slept in, waking around 7:30!

We ate breakfast, loaded our luggage once again, and headed out. Riche asked what we would see on our 5 hour drive to Jackson Hole and after surveying the map, I said "not much." …

    Exceeded all expectations!

This property was outstanding! The recently remodeled room was gorgeous, and the kids had a blast in the indoor/outdoor pool. All of the rooms are equipped with large new 3D LED HDTVs and Blu-Ray players. The front desk has Blu Ray movies and 3D glasses available for checkout. The 3D didn't really work, but that's lame TV tech, not the hotel's fault. There were 2 minor issues with the room, but neither was a big deal. 1. The fireplace wouldn't turn on. It's possible that it was smart enough not to turn on while the AC was running (it was 75 degrees outside, and the room was quite a bit warmer), so who knows of that's valid or not. We didn't need the heat, the kids just wanted to see it. 2. The Rainshower in the bathroom wasn't working great. The seal was obviously coming loose in the shower head, as a lot of the water was pouring out of the seams. Overall a great place to stay though.

    Welcoming; beautiful, comfortable & pleasant!

Our stay is wonderful. The only negative comment I have is the smoke odor from the guests who smoke near the entry way. I suggest a no smoking sign within the entry. It is a beautiful setting, welcoming love all the animal figurines but the smell smoke takes away from it.

    "The Lodge" Gimme a break!

    from

Spent two nights at the Lodge at Jackson Hole, a pretentious sounding name for a Best Western. That should have tipped me to the prevailing attitudes of some of the staff I encountered who were working during the 48 hours we were in Jackson.

    It was okay...

    from

The room was very pleasant...large and bright, and we had a decent view of the mountains. Everything was clean and well kept.

    Looks good

    from

Nice room, poor breakfast, slow housekeeping ,unresponsive to complaints.

    A good place to stay

    from

We just returned from a week in Jackson Hole. We stayed at the B.W. Lodge on our last night after experiencing some problems at other hotels. This hotel is nice looking on the outside, its close to everything, and the rooms were large and comfortable. There are some bad places in Jackson Hole...at least this Best Western is available. (Do not confuse the Best Western Lodge with the Best Western Inn in Teton Village....the Inn is terrible). I got the best rate using Hotels for this hotel. ($25 cheaper than calling the hotel directly just hours before needing a room for the night). The pool was cold but large and they have two hot tubs. A continental breakfast is included. I would pick this place again.

    Great place to base

    from

We enjoyed this clean spacious hotel very much. The indoor/outdoor pool was very warm and large. Nearby hot tub was welcome at the end of the day. Room was clean with coffee maker, microwave, frig; beds very comfortable. They had a laundry room but 3 of the 4 washers were out of service at the time.

Right on free bus shuttle line to downtown, with several restaurants w/i a few blocks' walking distance. Very nice service people which I did not expect from a Best Western. Breakfast was just ok - scrambled egg buffet, toast, cereal, etc. I would return to the Lodge.

    Pleasant Stay

    from

This was our second summertime trip to this lodge. The rooms are large, clean, and well-decorated. The bathrooms are large with marble-stone floors. The pools were wonderfully warm and uncrowded during both of our trips. The only negative is that this lodge is located in an industrial/business park. Both of our stays included views of the back doors of a strip mall. But if you don't spend a lot of time at your hotel window, it doesn't matter, because the facility is so pleasant.

    Great Place

    from

Stayed here for a few days last summer on our trip out west. Was the best place we stayed. Clean, beautiful room, great breakfast, and a helpful staff. Would highly recommend and will stay there again on another trip.

    Awesome!

    from

WONDERFUL place to stay!!! Had a king room with jacuzzi tub, working fireplace, and comfy bed. Close to downtown and skiing. The hotel was clean with a great atmosphere and desk staff.

    Absolutely the Best

    from

I 100% recommend this hotel - it has TONS of extras!!! It is very clean and is beautifully furnished. The rooms are roomy and have 1/2 kitchens: small refridgerators and a microwave, as well as cups, utensils, etc. The "suites" are a king bed with a full sofa bed with down comforters. The best part, every room comes with a fireplace and the king rooms come with large, whirlpool tubs. A full HOT breakfast, open until 10am. The swimming pool is large and is indoor/outdoor, even in winter. Also has 2 hottubs, indoor and outdoor. Is 20-30 minutes of most major skiing resorts, and minutes from downtown, with restaurants within walking distance. Would be good for business, couples or families. It is somewhat more expensive than moderate hotels, but much less expensive than the local resorts. This is a great value for the price.

    Hotel review

    from

We stayed there September 2002. This is a beautiful hotel! It is a little more expensive but the accomadations are great, the hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms are a dream (private jacuzzi). Service and staff were good and everything was very clean. We really recommend this hotel!
