We are so glad we chose this one. Great location, facilities and customer service. Right on the beach so we can watch the seals and whales from our huge luxury room. Outdoor fireplaces along the beach front so we can enjoy a chat with new friend and toast marshmallows.
Fire place in every room, king size beds and rooms with fully stocked bar fridge (max price $5) and great coffee makers. Even has its own self use laundry. Great food at the restaurant. This paradise is closest to Hearst Castle and the lovely town of Cumbria.

This property has several features that make it feel much more luxe than it in reality is.

You are right smack dab on one of the prettiest stretches of Pacific you could hope to find with unimpeded views.

The rooms are large, clean and have some nice touches, fireplaces (real), a bowl full of amenities and robes. You will quickly forgive that they are a bit dated.

Another great touch is they have several fire pits along the ocean edge of the property that they stoke and light at night where guests can help themselves to one of the chairs and enjoy being able to listen to the roaring waves while staying toasty warm...nice!

          Best view, not best buy

The Best Western Cavalier does have a good location for walking on the beach and the surrounding landscape is nice. The hotel is definitely convenient for visiting Hearst Castle. And there are some nice touches such as binoculars for viewing the great outdoors and a wood-burning fireplace. However, I was very disappointed with the room. Its really badly in need of updating. As for the value, $169 per night at Cavalier is more than what we paid for at a four star hotel in downtown Vancouver.

          Beautiful Location.

If you are doing a fly-drive to California, San Simeon is an excellent place to stop off as it's half way between San Francisco and Los Angeles - about a 4 hour drive from each. Also just a 5 minute drive to Hearst Castle which I would recommend you visit. The location of the hotel, right on the beach, is beautiful and we had views of the Pacific Ocean from our room. 2 pools available. Would recommend.

I would like going there again!

We only stood there for a night in early May 2003. But its a wonderful place. Very nicely located, direct at the coast. Wonderful pool availible even so early in the year. Campfire at the ocean for not freasing but to watch the sunset, etc. There are different rooms availible, we had the simple ones, which are not too big but very OK in size and cleaninless. I would defenatly go back and spend a few days here again! And don't miss the nice restaurant nearby - the mexican restaurant has wonderful "vine mageritas" :-).

          Great for a get-away weekend

We went to San Simeon for a get-away weekend and absolutely loved the Cavalier. Our room was located down on what I believe they refer to as the "terrace." It had been recently remodeled and included a wood burning fireplace, a large marble soaking tub, wet bar, balcony, binoculars and terry cloth robes. We had a great ocean view, as well as a view of the firepits along the bluff. The only criticism I had was with the restaurant as our dinner was pretty disappointing. Despite this, I would recommend the hotel to anyone and definitely look forward to another romantic weekend there in the future.

          We liked it!

As far as San Simeon goes, this was definately their nicest hotel. Our room looked very new, new carpet, paint and crown moulding, I thought it was very nice. It didn't need air and we didn't need it anyway. The set up isn't the best because you hear people walking by your window constantly, but it wasn't that bad. It is on the beach, they have fire pits, Cambria is right up the road........and we would definately stay there again. For the price, it was great!

          Great oceanfront location but!

The hotel has the BEST location in San Simeon! Especially if you want a place to stay during your visit to Hearst Castle. Our room looks right out to the ocean! There is also a beautiful lawn/bluff for you to walk around and enjoy the sea air! The hotel restaurant serves very good breakfast! However, the room is not as nice as we expected. It's VERY basic and bare. We happened to be there on a rare warm day in San Simeon, and since there was no AC, we left the sliding door open. Several little flying creatures found their way in the room!!! All that said, the hotel has bonfires on the bluff every evening so you can watch the sunset and enjoy roasted marshmallows right by the ocean! The bathrobes were nice and thick!!!! And there was also a binocular in the room to help you spot the seals!

The best Western Cavalier is an overall nice older hotel. The rooms need a little updating but have nice balconies and some have wood burning fireplaces. The restaurant was nice and had good food. Dont expect a four star hotel and you wont be disappointed. The hotel is in a great location for walking on the beach, enjoying the sunset or just exploring the area.

          Not so bad

Not a bad place, but not the most luxurious. There are nice touches - the restaurant is good, its a prime beachfront site, the fires at night are a nice idea. The previous review was a little harsh - this is not a brand new property, but the quality was fine for one night. Decor is decent, the bathroom is OK, good TV and a VCR (video shop across the street). It is a bit noisy - not from the street but from other residents slamming doors and shaking the block, or talking through the thin walls. It certainly seemed the best bet in the area however. (PS - note that it is not in San Simeon, it is 3 miles south of the remnants of 'old' San Simeon). I paid $89 on a Thursday night for a non-ocean view room.

          Please read my words

This is the only ocean front hotel in that small town. $79 is real price, they booked out all year long. So don't even think to call the front desk would help you. The standard is low. But the setup is nice, fire pit front of ocean, you can't complaint, be prepare the one-star level room. If the front desk refer you to Sands-by-the-sea Motel next to it. Please refuse! They belongs to same owner, and that place sucks. If you don't mind drive 3 more minutes, please check out Combia. They have much more ocean front and nicer restuarant.

          Romantic Getaway

This hoel was great. Well worth the price which was 169 a night. All the rooms are oceanview and we even had a fireplace. This is a well run hotel which I highly reccomend.
