Storms over Cincy

Bad storms on the horizon forced an early portage at a Cincinnati-are Walmart. Tried my best to capture the lightning to no avail. The best was a glow through the clouds. Had to pull over anyway because, as you can see, the navigator fell asleep! Home ...

Game 28: Feeling the grind

... level. I stopped by the Johnny Bench statue and poked my head into the hall of fame but didn't want to wait in line so I headed toward a stadium gate. Upon entering the stadium I was greeted by the same busyness that was outside. A band played near a smokehouse barbecue shack, there was a playground with a slide that led down a level to the batting cages and many of the kiosks and sign-up-and-get-a-free-gift ...

Sydney has to use the Bathroom, Brandon's sarcasm

We just picked up Tarah and hadn't even made it to the expressway and Sydney just had to use the bathroom, we should have just made her use the side of the road. Also right out of the gate Dad laid down The Sarcasm Rule, needless to say.....Brandon already exceeded his ...

It is now 6:30 AM and we are packing up. The nuances of a Stickels exit continue even on the day we leave for vacation. Which means we wait... and wait on showers to be completed. We are all excited about this trip. It will be the first vacation in several years and it is overdue. The trip ahead sets our first stop in Columbus for breakfast. We will see you ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Belterra Casino Resort & Spa Florence

    Awful

    from

This was, by far, the worst experience I've ever had on any trip to any place I've gone. The staff at the hotel/casino are incredibly arrogant and pompous. They are not there to help you. They are there to take your money. The hotel itself is decorted nicely and the rooms are adequate, but the attitude of the staff far outweighs any upside to the hotel. The spa treatments are overpriced and the salon at JCPenney is better equipped and staffed than Belterra's. The casino boat is incredibly smokey. Smoke everywhere you go. You emerge from the casino reeking of cigarettes. There aren't enough tables for the number of patrons there. Slot machines are awful and will ruin your day if you like to play slots. Stick to the tables...at least you can chat w/the dealers. Belterra needs more dealers with personalities. Any monkey can deal cards...how about a dealer who at least fakes interest in you winning. I, under no circumstances, would go to this hotel/casino again. Don't waste your time. Go to Caesar's.

    Casino is garbage

    from

Small- too few slot machines, too few craps tables. They allow one customer to play two and three machines when the place is packed. No one around was winning. Plus alot of the machines have no audio effects and some of the slots accept and give pay-out vouchers some don't but you never know which is which until you're sitting at the machine. Too much video games. They only had 8 -quarter wheel of fortune machines and 8 $1.00 ones !!! In the entire casino !! The hotel was great. Took two weeks to get a sat. night reservation. Nice resturants and 24 hr room service. I would have prefered a crappy hotel and a bigger casino

    Too much smoke..

    from

We enjoyed our stay at the casino for the most part. The rooms were very nice and we enjoyed the buffet for dinner and breakfast. The casino itself, however was so filled with smoke that I had to leave. Belterra casino needs to make one of their floors, non-smoking.

    Belterra, Some Good, Some Bad

    from

Wife and I stayed at the Belterra on Wednesday night, November 10, 2004.

    We loved staying at Belterra

    from

We had a fabulous time at Belterra Hotel and Casino!!! The breakfast and dinner buffet was wonderful. Our room was spectacular and we will return in the near future.

We do hope that one day soon the casino will offer free alcoholic drinks while gambling; that is the only complaint we have regarding our stay.

    Dual Personality Hotel/Casino

    from

Just returned from a quick overnight visit to the Belterra Hotel and Casino. I'd been anxious to visit since I'd heard several good things about it, and the Belterra had been inundating our local press with ads and great deals. They're off to a fine start, but there are some inconsistencies I hope they can fix. The hotel/casino aspires to Vegas splendor (per their ads), and they almost get it right. The architecture/interior design is lovely. Clearly, no expense has been spared to make this a beautiful, classy-looking establishment. Gorgeous inlaid marble and tile floors, a several story high glass rotunda in the lobby and a skylit atrium walkway, an aquarium wall between the restaurant and the hall to the buffet, I could go on. Impressive. And the rooms are equally impressive. Spacious, rich colors, and one of the most incredible bathrooms I've ever seen. Huge, separate jacuzzi/soaking tub and glass shower. Muted lighting. Excellent. Unfortunately, they cut corners on some of the details which would have made it all perfect. The linens on my bed were a scratchy, low thread count muslin-like material. The heat/air conditioning didn't work very well, and was noisy. The only full-service restaurant open at the time (the steak house is closed for some reason) had a noisy, unappealing decor with TVs in the corner and wobbly tables. And the service was slow and inefficient. Don't they know that if you're sitting around for an hour waiting for your food, you're not losing money in the casino? I was also dismayed that there were no free drinks in the casino (alcoholic) for gamblers, but that may be a local law, not sure. The casino is a slots-lovers paradise. Not enough video poker machines or tables. But I suspect they know their clientele, as the majority of people seemed to be slots-players. Only one bar in the casino, and it was usually filled with video poker players desperate for a machine. I guess when you plunk down a glitzy casino/hotel in the middle-of-nowhere farm country, there's going to be a culture clash. Hopefully, they'll address the details and make this place into the Vegas-esque destination they envision.

The Good and the Bad at Belterra

    from

We just got back home from a one night (Thursday) stay at Belterra Casino. Upon arriving at the Casino, you will find yourself in the beautiful lobby area. It is almost something reminiscent of a smaller vegas casino. Check in was very quick. Our room was on the 12th floor on the opposite side of the golf course. The room was very clean and very nice for the price. The oversized bathroom was great. The casino itself is a very short indoor walk from the actual hotel down to the boat. Don't forget to stop by the championship club and signup to obtain a players card. Upon doing this, we experienced a rude woman behind the counter who was being ridiculously rude to our friends. She was part of the VIP service, but helping our friends get signed up b/c there was no one in the VIP line at the time. She would not put the couple on the same championship club account and was very rude about the whole thing. The actual casino isn't too bad, but smaller than anticipated. There were only two floors of games on the boat. I was also surprised at the lack of table games. Thankfully it wasn't too crowded when we were there. There was only 1 paigow table, 1 let it ride, maybe a few blackjack and craps. There were also a few other games but it didn't seem like it was an adequate amount for all the people they try to cater too. I was also disappointed at the lack of people walking around offering beverages. I did like the laid-back atmosphere and most of the dealers I interacted with were very nice and helpful. We also ate dinner at the Steakhouse. The food was fairly good but not sure if it justifies the price. Our service was poor and we waited almost an hour for our food when the restaurant was only half full. They also have a buffet there that seemed to be popular. Finally, we also had some problems at checkout. We were quoted a lower rate at the time of check-in. I signed off on the fact that they would apply the rate they quoted at the time of checkin. During checkout, I was surprised to find the rate different than what I was quoted...especially without notifying me prior. They made a honest mistake and misquoted a rate to me. They should have lived up to their mistake without us having to get upset about it. It wasn't worth their hassle, especially with the money I spent in the casino. All in all, it was a decent experience, but I don't know if I would go back. If you live in Ohio and you are looking for the quick Vegas fix, I would definately recommend Casino Windsor first. The casino is huge, and there is absolutely no lack of anything to do there.

    Fabulous Resort BUT!!

    from

I have been enjoying the resort with bi-weekly trips for over 2 years now. The standard rooms are beyond desirable, all having 2 adult jacuzzis and full service to your room. If you are lucky enough to book a 15th floor suite, you may not leave (heaven). The overall stay remains above others but recent additions and management change has caused a less hospitable staff and the chances of getting a rude reply to questions are 50/50.

    Fun! Fun! Fun!

    from

The casino and resort were absolutely beautiful. We went there about 4 months ago and are planning to go back this weekend. The resort is very upscale. The best part of our room was the bathroom!! It had a TV and a great big jacuzzi tub. There was a couch in the living room area, a nice comfortable bed and a TV with cable. There are also plenty of nice places to eat within the resort that are reasonably priced. We went to the ultimate buffet which had just about every type of food imaginable...I felt like I was on a cruise!! The casino itself was also very nice. The dealers were all friendly and helpful. The only complaint I had is that the day we went there were only 2 floors with just a few tables open and we had to wait for quite some time before we were able to play. But other than that the trip was very enjoyable and I would highly recommend it!!
