Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize andrewp... on our on and rented a couple of bikes to check the place out. We went to North Ambergris Caye to look for The Lazy Croc which is a bar-b-q place run by a couple named Enz and Cheri from Orlando who are close friends with most of our friends back home. They are a great couple and we ended up meeting them after they closed for drinks later that night. While all this was going on I was also working on a menu for a restaurant we found that didnt have any type of menu. The place ...
San Pedro, Belize blowstein... and so the common form of transport is biking along with golf carts which also function as the islands taxi system. The island is crammed full of fellow backpackers so it takes us an hour or so to find somewhere to stay. It's definitely time for happy hour so we troll the island in search of a Pina colada. A low key day enjoying the islands plentiful white Caribbean rum and it's all good. Except for one place where it's definitely not happy hour after waiting over half an ...
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize gareth.alannaI woke up early (5:30) due to an upset stomach from the Chloroquine I took the night before. Erinn got up around 7 and started feeling the side-effects of the medicine just as we were about to eat breakfast at Glenda's at 7:30, which was open this time. Unfortunate timing for her because Glenda's had a very good breakfast. I would recommend it over Amor y Cafe unless you want something light (like yogurt and ...
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize boognish... the boat for the 2 hour journey out to the reef. 60 miles off shore these boats are rapid with three 200hp outboards on the back. Anchored up, we had our dive briefing. The dive was deep at 42m, and as such nitrogen narcosis, a feeling likened to being drunk, was a possibility; we were reminded that it would be a bad idea to take our regulators out of our mouths to give them to the fish - rational thought depletes at ...
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize chrissmith300... which we both admitted, felt a little weird again. We had decided to stay one more night and leave on the 12pm boat from the island, back to the mainland and from there, head south in Belize to a town called Punta Gorda, and from there another boat, back in Guatemala and then another 2 buses that would bring us into Honduras, where we would need to get another boat out to the island of Utila, a part of the Bay Islands, where we´re going to attempt to get our Scuba Diving ...
Caye Caulker, Belize Cayes, Belize jamesmc... verandah before trudging the 1/4 mile to airport. Sigh. It was an incredible week. We enjoyed meeting so many great people. We loved dreaming our Belizean Dream. We'll see what the future holds! Grrrr. Snow in the foothills just a few miles from here - and I'm in San Diego! We already miss the warm sun and sea breeze. Going back to work ...
San Pedro, Belize mikeywaz... great lime beverages. Sue and Greg decided to move to a hotel with a/c but Tom and I liked it where we were so we stayed. Tom's backpack arrived so he now had a change of clothes. Tom and I ended up back at the I&I. As the place was deserted except for us and the 15 year old bartender, who brags that he is the youngest bartender in Belize, I decided to try my hand at a stripper pole. It's ...
Caye Caulker , Belize, Belize fishwheel... our bags to our room, so we unpacked a bit and headed out to explore San Pedro. We walked from one end to nearly the other, taking pictures during breaks in the rain. Needless to say, no Caribbean island during a storm will hold a fraction of its supposed charm, and Ambergris was no exception. Every street or lane was covered with mud or wet sand, the water was a sickly, churning greenish-brown, and the golf-carts and occasional minivan would speed past, splashing through the ...
San Pedro, Belize wktsorf... how alive the reef is with all different entities of life living there and off it. The Caye's are stunning with amazing snorkeling but the one thing the islands lack are beaches. It is surrounded by sea grass which isn't very nice to swim in, so we decided to take a bus ride down to Placencia for a bit of beach life before hitting Guatemala. It was so hot when we arrived, that when we ...
