Ap Cua Lap, Xa Duong To Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam, 077-980998
Left Saigon for the island of Phu Quoc. Supposed to be quaint and remote and boy was it! We hit it just at the start of the rainly season and after a few days of sun, the rains came. So did the mosquitos...had 20 or so bites on one foot. The island was lovely but unfortunately very dirty as the vietnamese people could care less about the environment or how they dispose of trash. Swimming in the ocean was not an option and after 2 weeks we abandoned the island for our current residence-Nha Tra...
Phu Quoc, Vietnam equineannieHaving been city slicking for a while in Saigon, we decided it was about time we head to the beach again as Paul was looking decidedly white (you wouldn't have thought he'd spent the last five weeks in plus 30 degrees!!). We read about Phu Quoc in Lonely Planet (where else?!) and it sounded like paradise, we got a flight (yes no sweaty buses this time) for $60 which wasn't too bad and it was certainly worth it! We arrived at the airport not having booked any accommodation and was lucky enough...
Phu Quoc, Vietnam goldynhanOnce in Vietnam, I met Kevin in Saigon (a.k.a Ho Chi Minh City). For 36 hours, we stayed in Saigon, eating, drinking, walking, visiting the War Remnants Museum, and enjoying the pre-Tet sights, but our destination was Phu Quoc Island, south of Cambodia and claimed by both Cambodia and Vietnam yet government control didn't seem to matter too much on this laid-back island. Soon we began three and one half days of relaxation at the Beach Club, the southernmost resort on Long Beach. It was a smal...
Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam lraleighSo we've been in Phu Quoc, a small tropical island off the southern coast of Viet Nam and Cambodia, for a few days now. We're staying in a beachfront bungalow steps from the white sands and warm waters of the Gulf of Thailand. We're finally getting a little alone honeymoon time. The weather and water temperature has been perfect, and Allison has been overjoyed with the lack of waves in the water. Today we rented a motor-scooter to explore a little bit of the island. We headed southeast to vis...

... the start of our trip and actually really like it but it still stinks as badly as I remember it!). Kampot it the main producer of durian so we found many fields filled with durian trees as well as mango, coconut, jack-fruit (another yummy asian fruit), bananas, etc. We drove all the way past the zoo to Tek Chhouu Falls (which are more like rapids) before turning round as it was getting dark. All in all, a fun day of exploring!
The next day, we took a tour ...
Phu Quoc island, Kiến Giang, Vietnam renate-volker... was a line at the door, always a good sign, and it was well worth the wait. Great food and a great warm feeling inside to boot!!! Worth missing another happy pizza now and that is saying something! Next day we took a bus down to the Cambodian Riviera or Sihanouhkville or snookerville to me and Claire. Its a nice place and we went down to the beach for all of half an hour as the heat was unreal!! Also women keep coming up ever 5 minutes offering manicure ...
Kampot, Cambodia claire_noel... in this little place off the main road. We sit down and ask for the menu, our tuk-tuk driver translating for us, and they say 'no menu, what do you want?'. Hmm, so to be safe we order 2 noodle vegtable soups. Cant go wrong right?
Wrong.
When it arrives its anything but veggie, with bits of meat everywhere and god knows what else. Also floating in it was something that looked a little bit too similar to testicles. But ...
... a dip in the sea, taking it in turns. Johannes, otherwise, had his nose stuck in a book. The beach, though, wasn't entirely clean; bits of garbage were floating in the water, and the sands were a bit grubby. Still, nice lingering around in the late afternoon sun, and Kep's a really nice place.
We rode back up the only thoroughfare, dodging Cambodian children on their bikes, and handed the motors back. We said we'd be back tomorrow for another excursion.
