Another day, another port. The Dominican Republic is the eastern side of the island of Hispaniola. The western side is Haiti. We docked at a port called La Romana. There are a few different things you can do here. We chose to visit some caves call Cueva de las Miravillas (the cave of miracles). It was a great option because we got to see a bit of the countryside, we had a very good taxi driver who told us a bit about the island life ...

Its my last day as a volunteer at 180 Grados in Guaymate and we had a farewell get together by going to the river. Unfortunately yudelka wasn't feeling too well, another case of Chikungunya! ... The garden is massive, and there are only 3 workers and no volunteers at the moment, as it is hot and hard work! The other projects that we are hoping to complete involve getting a tractor out there for a day or two...this is looking to be problematic, but I will see what comes of this at tonight's meeting. As well, they want to have someone measure and make proper uniforms (scrubs-style) for all of the "tias" - these are the women who work and live full-time ...

... and moved beyond what we could imagine if they were to receive good news! I hope that all is well with everyone, and I will post more later on other aspects of what I am doing (orphanage update and Rotary update to come shortly!) Donna, another teacher from Halifax, will be arriving here on Sunday for 12 days, and I am really looking forward to seeing her! My internet time is almost up, so I guess I should sign off for ...
