... we didn't know anyone. A lot of people, including our parents, did not want us to go. We stayed in the city of La Romana. Within our 3 month stay, we met many friends like Lexie and Crystal.

So I received some very sad news yesterday after one of my classes. When I finished teaching yesterday, one of the teachers asked me if I would stay behind to meet with a family. I didn't know what family it was, but it turned out that it was the family of one of my students, and what I learned was that my student has a brain tumour, which was the last thing that I was expecting to hear, and which has made me very upset. ...

After, the younger children in the community all rushed to see the visitors, and they were tugging at hands and crawling into laps at every chance they had!
