What Happened in Spain Part II

... and got ready to go out. Thinking I was back in L.A., I brought a red dress and heels with me. Everyone else had decided that the beach was a casual place, so flipflops and jeans would be perfect. Trust me, you'll notice the contrast in the photo I post! Anyway, we walked around the small city until we settled at a tapas bar. Cadiz is a very small city with little cobblestone streets and antique looking buildings. We walked around the ...

Day with the Host Family

... to communicate. We were able to watch Flamingo dancing at the center in town as there was a special performance that night and the star was a young man who grew up in Cadiz and Loly and her husband have known as a child. After the show we went to lunch with Sergio and Oscar their sons. Oscar is older and speaks a little English and looks just like Jon Vaglio. Crazy. That morning both sons were at a casting call for a movie to be made with Tom ...

Sherry Tasting and the Andalusian Horses

... of the sweetest sherry called "Nectar" for 8 Euro. I really didn’t like their regular sherry though. They were pretty cool though. When celebrities or royalty come visit, they have them sign a barrel of Tio Pepe instead of signing a guestbook! And they have a family of mice that are sherry connoisseurs. One of the distillery ...

... something to see. After the show we headed to another white village town called Arcos de la Frontera. This was another cobble stoned hillside town set among 2 churches and a convent. We had a nice lunch and walked around the town. The streets were narrow and tiny and mike did a great job of navigating through the narrow roads (he's getting much better)...we left and started our 2.5 hour drive from there to Nerja our destination for the next 7 days ...

Beach day in Cadiz

... and pull down my bottoms a little to see the line-- HOLY ****! My lower back is legitimately sunburned! This has never happened to me before! I start freaking out and poking it, but at this point, there isn't much I can do. I decide to just sit down with my shirt on and read, so I flip through some of the Spanish magazines I got- Spanish Cosmo and 2 Spanish travel magazines. At around 7, we decide we want to leave to shower and get ready to go out ...

Living on a cliff face was unique!

... br> Next stop was the most southern town on the Iberian peninsula, Terifa. This is the windsurfing capital of Europe that attracts sailboarders from all over the continent in VW vans. The area has miles of beach, strong constant winds, and lots of bars. We stopped for lunch and checked out a Moorish castle ruin right outside the “Closest European Restaurant to Africa”. I guess it was ...

... of electronics shops, jewellers, off-licences, tobacconists and gift/tack shops. Gibraltar is a tax free zone, so that is what it thrives on. £6 for a litre of scotch, £8 for a carton of cigarettes. Models of British phone boxes, British Bobbies, and of course thousands of toy monkeys. There is a Marks & Sparks and a BHS, so we had hoped to stock up on a few clothing items, but the range was limited and, strangely, the ...

Last Night in the Atlantic before Spain!

So, I have been spending almost the entire last week at sea. It has been interesting. The ship is larger than I was expecting and I see new people all the time. At least that is how it seems. The food is not fabulous to say the least. That is unfortunate. I am not usually a picky eater but I am on the Explorer. I have not gotten fully "sick" in terms of seasickness but have not felt 100% great at all times. The ...
