After an early breakfast we joined our fellow travellers on the coach and left Boston at 8am. We travelled north through New Hampshire to Cape Elizabeth where we visited the Fort William Lighthouse. This is the oldest lighthouse in the US and it was commissioned by George Washington.
The next stop was for lunch in Portland at Long Wharf …
We were supposed to go into Acadia National Park today but because of the Government shutdown the park was closed.
Tried to help the economy of Bar Harbour but couldn't find anything to buy. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

Spectacular views and dinner with their long time friend, business partner and boat captain. I slept very, very soundly in the lap of luxury of their guest room.

Historical Traveler Reviews Bar Harbor Hotel - Bluenose Inn
The Bluenose Inn is a wonderful, relaxing, peaceful, well-staffed friendly place to vacation. The outstanding amenities are worth every penny. The service is impeccable. The location is convenient to the town of Bar Harbor as well as Acadia National Park. My husband enjoyed playing the nearby golf course. I highly recommend the Inn and look forward to a return visit as soon as possible!
We had our daughter's wedding dinner and reception at the Bluenose, and it was a wonderful experience. During the planning we saw that the staff were very competent. With friendly excellence they helped us plan just what we wanted with an experienced eye for detail. We had about seventy people served in the "Great Room". The Great Room has a quiet elegance that is hard to describe. It is formal, yet very comfortable--a most relaxed setting. The hors d'oeuvres were almost too delicious. (Ah! For more of those bacon-wrapped scallops served on silver platters by pleasant staff while we visited with friends....) The photographer was able to get some great photos while we all had a fantastic time. Special thanks to the wonderful staff for a very special day! We highly recommend the Bluenose. By the way, the view is magnificent.
We had business meeting at the Blue Nose recently. Everything was wonderful. The views, the service, the rooms, the restaurant - all were excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel.
One of the Best Places in Bar Harbor
Rooms were beautiful, view was wonderful, staff was extremely friendly and went out of their way to be accomodating. Food in restaurant and service was first class. Couldn't of asked for anything else. no improvements needed.
What a place!
What a wonderful spot! The rooms were perfect in every way from the fireplaces to the views. Our dinner in the Rose Garden was a treat to remember, and the staff in every department couldn't have been more professional or courteous. An A+ in all respects!
Great view - better service
The Bluenose Inn is an absolutely beautiful hotel with breathtaking views, but it is the service, both in its wonderful restaurant and its hotel staff, that makes it an exceptional experience. I was there on business, and every detail was attended to with effieiency and and cheerfullness. I look forward to returning with my family to really experience Bar Harbor and relax at a truely top notch hotel.
Great rooms, great food, great service.
Our company met at the Bluenose last week and everything was absolutely perfect. The staff went out of its way to attend to every detail to make our meeting special. The rooms were spacious (mine had a fireplace, luxurious robe, turndown service and every amenity you can imagine). The food in the restaurant was out of this world. Our group sampled the restaurant's four-diamond, gourmet fare and it was awesome - from the Oysters Rockefeller to the Espresso Panna Cotta. All of this was served up by an extra friendly, professional staff. This hotel deserves its four-diamond rating!
Wow! What a view!
It all began when I walked into the lobby. The interior design, the beautiful "Great Room" and the fresh flowers were stunning. After being greated, ushered, registered, and delivered to my room I was again blown away.
The room was very spacious, with a separate seating area with a fireplace, good work area and oversized bathroom, but the view was spectacular.
From the private balcony I had an uninterupted view of Frenchman's Bay. I watched as lobster boats puttered around the harbor. I hope I can get this same room when the Queen Elizabeth II steams into the Harbor this fall.
The food in the dining room was incredible, and filled with pleasant surprises. Kudos to the Chef.
Looks are deceiving
We came here on our honeymoon expecting to walk from the hotel to the water and the main street. We found out after arrival that we had to drive to get anywhere. The front desk at the hotel was rude and inconsiderate. We purchased two packages in advance and mailed in our deposit. However, once we arrived, the front desk had nothing prepared for us and we had to ask for each specific item in the package. We tried to cancel the room one hour after we checked in since we purchased the insurance here, but the front desk treated me as though I offended them by wanting to leave. I highly recommend the Bar Harbor Inn, owned by the same gentleman. It is right on the water and in the heart of the attractions in Bar Harbor. The rates are lower and service is 5 x better.
A Luxury Getaway
Absolutely lovely. Great food ambiance and location. One of the first places I have stayed that has exceeded my expectations.
The Rose Garden cuisine is fabulous! The views of Frenchman's Bay is quite lovely.
