    Good Base to Explore Banff

This is a descent place to stay. You get basic kitchen facilities and plenty of living room space inside the chalets. The one thing to be aware of is the bedrooms are small and can get hot, even with the window left open. However if you are using this place as a launchpad to explore Banff and surrounding area it is ideally located and has a free shuttle service, so you can enjoy a drink in town before returning.

The accommodation was adequate but small. We are used to time-share units that are slightly larger with more recent refurbishing.

    A New Start

The decision had been had been made, in exactly a year after this trip myself and my wife would permanently move to Calgary. The purpose of this trip was to bring my parents to sell them on the idea, not because this would change our plans, but it would be nice for them to know how great a place we were planning to move to. …

Lake Johnson & a Grizzly Bear!
We woke up stupidly early again, so we decided to go for a walk around Lake Johnson at 7.30am. En route we spotted elk and got some good photos.

We parked the car and as we set off to walk around the lake we could hear the sound of either wild dogs or wolves having an early morning howl. It …

    Lake Louise

Today after breakfast we decided to drive to Lake Louise. I have been here once before when it was frozen and snow covered. I was looking forward to seeing the Lake Louise as shown on the postcards, turquoise blue. Unfortunately today my dad was ill…grrrr to that sick lady on a plane!

    The lake was …

    A day in Banff

A travel blog entry by chizzer

Today was a 'free' day while the rest of the group went on a day trip. We decided we would prefer to explore Banff, a charming town in the Rockies, primarily a ski resort, but also a place for tourists to enjoy the clean air, varied shops and restaurants, walks and museums. We firstly had to find a breakfast venue - we found Coyotes, which had the most amazing selection of breakfasts imaginable! Great service and food. After stuffing ourselves silly, ...

... in Europe, which provided me with more incentive to travel this way.

We drove through town before pulling over to give the others a ring. The timing was spot on as Jean and Tasia basically tried to call each other at the same. We organised a place to meet, even though we had no idea where we were. As we entered a car park though a car flashing its lights was indication that they had found us, Jean was holding up ...
