Amazing Banana Beach Bunch
from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I stayed at BB from November 11 to November 18 (our 16th wedding anniversary and "1st" honeymoon). We could not be any happier with our vacation.
After searching nervously on the Internet to find comments, recommendations for hotels - I found it to be quite a relief to find so many glorious recommendations for this establishment. Neither of us had been out of the country before and we were worried about every little detail. After the first day we realized that we had picked the perfect place - with the perfect view and the perfect staff.
Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Especially Sergio and Marcela in El Divino. They made everything fun!
Our room was big and clean and bright. We did not "buy up" for the suite and we were never sad about that. We just ate out for every meal. We will probably buy up next time just to see what it's like. The view of the ocean is beautiful from the beach/deck area. Rattan furniture around the pool and in the restaurant are comfortable and inviting. Having a great free breakfast each morning was a great added bonus. The groundspeople are out bright and early each morning combing sand, spraying sand off of the decks - continuously cleaning and making sure the hotel is just so.
The tours booked through Monkey Business were great. We booked: Lamanai, Cave Tubing & Zoo, and Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley. Had a blast on all three trips...Marcus and Willie from SeaRious were fantastic!! And Lil' Alfonse guided us at Hol Chan Marine & Shark Ray Alley - I don't have enough time to go on about how fantastic this guy was!!!! We saw and did things that were amazing because of him!! I would recommend him again and again. He has found his niche in paradise! We too held nurse sharks, petted sting rays, etc. We also saw a spotted eagle ray while snorkeling that was amazing! Even Alfonse was excited about that!!
The other guests were so much fun and so friendly - simply because everyone is so happy while in Ambergris Caye and Banana Beach!! I truly believe this. We will be back as soon as possible - and we will bring the kids next time. We met so many nice people - the Canadian's with the canoe, the honeymooners from Denver, the older gentleman from CT, and Dan on the snorkeling trip. I hope you all had a fantastic time as well and a safe trip back home!
Missing the place terribly since we're back in Louisville. But I am happy to be able to log onto TripAdvisor and give my two cents as well! This place is fantastic!!
Banana Beach rocks!

We just visited Belize the first week in November for our honeymoon and it was awesome. Our reservations to Grand Cayman had been cancelled because of damage from the Hurricane and we had to decide on a new destination only 3 weeks before the trip!
We decided on Banana Beach because it seemed the nicest place for the price, and it was! The room we stayed in was an oceanfront suite and it was worth the extra money. The kitchens in the rooms are great, but some of our dishes smelled funny even after being washed! Other than that the room was really clean and the A/C worked great. Everyone we encountered was so nice (staff and locals)- being from Chicago that took a little getting used to. The Monkey Business Travel Shop was excellent, they booked all of our trips. I recommend the day-long jungle tour to Lamanai. It's also nice to rent bikes and ride to the north end of the Caye. It is really lush, seculuded and beautiful. If you make it to Captain Morgan's Retreat (where the first Temptation Islad was filmed) you can have lunch at their beach resturant and even swim in their pool.
Belize was an awesome, yet unexpected choice. We went for the snorkeling at shark ray alley, where we actually HELD the tame nurse sharks. There is so much to do in Belize, you can't get it all done in a week, we'd love to go back and will probably stay at Banana beach when we do.
A GREAT LITTLE RESORT
from A TripAdvisor Member
We visited Ambergris caye from oct30-nov7...we had a great time. The people working there were amazing always smiling. Hello to Rocki and roxanne they were great! Money Bussiness acted very quickly to any of our request for adventures. We met so many great people from all over the world. The water was blue and warm. We ate mostly at the resort and the food was very good. We rented a golf cart and traveled the small island, what a way to travel. Time has stopped in the island tho it is a little primative it is so relaxing, we felt very safe there. We went snokeling at shark ray alley and the sharks were amazing. the coral is so beautiful. If you are looking for a great little place to go this is the one. We have traveled to many places in the carribean and this is one place I will return to. Hello to Carl and Helen..we enjoyed meeting ya and hope you had as much fun as us...
Banana Beach is beyond compare

Banana Beach is the best resort I have ever stayed at. I could have never made a better choice, looking at the most expensive and the cheapest; you just cannot beat the price. The staff will be the number one reason that I will always return to Banana Beach.
The beach is up kept all day long; I pretty much swam in the ocean daily, right next to Banana Beach. The Mar De Tumbo Beach area is the best natural beach on the island.
I used Monkey Business Travel Shoppe for all my excursions, there was nothing that they could not find for me, to do, all I had to was ask and I knew within the hour. It is great to have the hotel there to help sort things out for you in the event that a trip doesn't go as scheduled. All trips and tours are billed after the service has been provided not before.
I tried a lot of restaurants in town and nothing compared to the food or the service that I received at El Divino. And the drinks in the martini lounge are some of the best on the island! You get so much food for the free breakfast, that I had to tell them just make it a half of order, because I did not want to waste it, plus, I used the voucher towards my lunch, plenty of times.
The maid service was wonderful, in and out; the room was spotless, when they left. The complementary beach towels are a major plus, fresh one everyday. You do not have to worry about lugging our own down or using the bath towels in the rooms.
I have walked to town, via the beach, in about 15 minutes, I have walked early in the morning and late at night, never had a problem, feeling unsafe, at all.
The store across the street was a convenience, but there was really nothing that I needed from there, because everything was readily available at the resort.
If you like to visit when it is slow go in September. The rest of the year is busy.
Banana Beach a great vacation spot

We just returned from a 7-night stay at Banana Beach Resort and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel, its location and its excellent staff. The hotel is well maintained and managed and exceeded our expectations. Our oceanfront suite allowed a wonderful view of the ocean about 25 yards away, including some dramatic Hurricane Ivan surf. It had A/C, satellite TV, fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Great breakfast selections each day, including homemade breads and pastries. (Don't miss the banana coladas.) We rented a golfcart to explore, went on a sunset cruise from the neighboring pier and enjoyed a truly relaxing vacation. Our thanks to everyone at Banana Beach, we'll be back!
Banana Beach bunch is the best pick

After saving for over 20 years to make a trip to Belize, we spent 10 days at Banana Beach in June of this year and couldn't have been happier. The maids kept everything clean and cool, the office staff were very helpful in getting us taxis and exchanging our dollars, and the Monkey Business Travel Bureau was cheaper than other tours in all respects, even in renting the famous golf carts everyone drives around the island! We visited other resorts nearby and couldn't find any to compare in value. Banana Coladas, in fact, all rum drinks are half price during happy hour. They have special on margaritas and tequila drinks on Mondays, as I recall. So their bar was adequate, and maybe on the quiet side, but that's the way we liked it. The outside bar-b-que and patio was lovely at dusk for dinner or just to have drinks. Both pools were clean and the gardens were well-kept. The security was impeccable. Can't think of anything amiss. We are definitely going back!
A great little place

My sister and I stayed at Banana Beach for 5 days in early August and thoroughly enjoyed it. The location is perfect - not too far from town to walk (stroll along the beach rather than on the road as it's cooler and more interesting), but far enough out of town if you're looking for something a little quieter. The staff was wonderful and friendly. The two pools are great. Our room was clean and the AC worked well. Our only complaint is that sometimes there was a strange smell from the bathroom, which I think may be from the drain, as it only happened after we took showers. I have heard that sometimes the septic tanks don't work very well. It does go away after a while though, and we didn't spend much time in our room except to sleep. The "beach" area is fine -- I fell asleep under the palm trees a few times. There is a lot of seaweed that washes up to the beach though due to the reef. I was almost tempted to ask the hotel for a rake so I could rake the beach myself! The convenience store across the street is perfect if you need to get some water, beer, or soda - their prices were cheaper than the grocery store near the airport. I recommend renting bikes and riding to the north end of the island. There is a great swimming area at the "split" - where the original caye was cut through by the hurricane a while back. The water is very shallow very far out, and there is less seaweed. If you want to save some money, I would say to take a water taxi to San Pedro rather than fly. From Belize Int. Airport, ask the taxi driver to take you to the water taxi dock ($20 US). The water taxi is $15 US o/w per person. It's about 1h15min ride, so if you have the time, it's great. They only run at specific times though so check out the schedule to see if it works with your flight times. For a good watering hole, go to the little outdoor palapa bar called "barefoot iguana" across from the exotic caye beach resort. kelly, the bartender, is really nice. you'll probably meet a few expats hanging out there. afterwards, you can cross the street and visit the crazy canuck bar at the exotic caye. mondays are really fun and "crazy". I highly recommend Belize. Next time, I'll be heading a little further south.
Ahhhh! relaxation at it's best!

What a perfect hotel for relaxing. The location is
fine. An easy 20 minute (approx) stroll into town
along the beach or you can walk along the street. We stayed in the hotel rooms. The room was very clean, a/c worked great, hot water plus water pressure and the breakfast included in the price was fantastic. The hotel rooms have a balcony or
porch that look towards the ocean. We felt very safe walking to/from town either along the beach or through the neighborhoods. The staff are very friendly. Their tourist office has great sightseeing packages. We rented bicycles for the day and toured the island. If you are diving, I'd definately recommend ProTech. They will pick up at BB's dock. Excellent company with great happy employees. If you are hungry for oriental food, try Typhoon Restaurant along the road into town. The building doesn't look like much but the food is very good.
Great Value

Updated 1970s rather than upscale like Banyan Bay next door or luxurious like nearby Victoria House but half the price of VH and one third less than BB. Great for our family reunion. Very convenient: restaurant with included breakfast, convenience market, golf cart rentals, nice beach adjacent, dive shop 2 minutes away at Banyan Bay, mini-fridges and a very nice staff. We stayed in outside rooms and a condo, which are less closed-in than the rooms overlooking the pool. I really liked the location south of the town but not too far away. I highly recommend the golf carts; my kids loved them.
Living on Belize Time
from A TripAdvisor Member
This delightful little hotel is located well outside of San Pedro (taxis can be hailed outside the hotel pretty easily and it will cost 5 USD to get to anywhere in town). This is a fairly quite section of a wonderfully quite island. The hotel itself does not have a beach (sort of ironic considering the name) but they do have a nice little area with beach chairs in the sand in front of the hotel overlooking the ocean. There are beaches to the right and to the left of the hotel, but the best bet for swimming is off the dock to the north (there is a lot of sea grass due to the barrier reef) or in the pool. There is a small convenience store across the road where you can get beer and beverages to stock your fridge.
The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff is pleasant and very helpful (hopefully you will not need the local remedy for pica pica, but if you do the staff will gladly mix up the ingredients for you and give you a lemon to apply it). The activities office is also very usefull and will set up everything you want. All you are required to do is bring the vouchers they give you to the hotel's dock and you're good to go.
If you are simply in the planning stages and are considering Belize, I highly recommend going there. On Ambergris you will want to have a pair comfortable/cheap sandals (after a few days you may even stop whereing these and live like the locals). The diving is spectacular (I got certified there) and you are only in the boat for a few minutes since the dive sites are right off shore (so close that you will do your surface intervals back at the dive shop dock.
One other thing to remember - If the waitstaff is slow or the tour boat is late - this just means that you have forgotten to do the most important thing there is on a trip to Belize - Stop wearing a watch! You are in paradise there is no need to rush.
