ELEPHANTS! Trekking and Villiages

Chiang Mai Like - three day trekking tour Dislike - lack of public transportation, no buses Do Differently - take a cooking class, but they are rather expensive here. Stayed - Rama House R19, I liked it, the people weren't pushy trying to sell tours and that is always nice, they just let you be. Let you keep your stuff there with out having to book with them either. When I got back though I stayed at a place Ban Wiang around the corner it had WIFI that I had to pay for, but it was nice having...

Cooking Thai Style

... be a fairly gentle affair. Our group seem like a decent bunch. It includes three couples from Brazil, Denmark and Canada, luckily all speaking very good English.

After the briefing was over we decided to go into town for a bite to eat and combine it with a visit to the night market. We ended up bumping into couple who were on their way to the night market as well and ended up having a meal with them. We played it safe and went to the red lion as we had ...

... something to drink. So we went around the corner to get Thai tea or Thai iced coffee. I got the Thai tea, which came in a bag. I remember seeing Anthony Bourdain posing for a photo shoot with a bag of Thai tea on one of his shows. Now it was my turn. It was great. I had not realized how easy it is to make. Everyone uses the same type of tea in Thailand (No. One Tea), then you add condensed sweetened milk and evaporated milk...you know, good ole Carnation. That's it. So good ...

Do you remember where you were when....

... toilets. Made the mistake of going in one last night that was only a squat hole in the floor. Tiny cubicle and stank to high heaven. Tried not to think of needing the loo all night, but was desperate by 6am. Luckily realised the second cubicle was a western style toilet – not much nicer, but a hell of a lot easier to use with the train rocking! Am trying to decide whether I can hold out until we get to Chiang Mai – but I think nature is calling.

In the jungle the mighty jungle

Hey there, So when we had nicely settled in to our (boiling hot) room in Banana Guest house we had to decide on what to do with our time here. So after wandering around the town a while we booked our train out of here to Bangkok just in case everything filled up and then decided we wanted to do something called the Jungle Flight. I'd (EW) been talking about doing the Gibbons experience all trip but it is in North North Lao (a trip which includes lots of ...

Thailand - Koh Lanta to Chiang Mai

... haggle with them but the prices were fixed. One of the stewards offered to show us the viewing deck and as there was a good view of the ring even from the back, we decided that the epic journey we'd encountered warranted the reward so we all blew our daily budgets and went in. With the traffic we'd missed the first couple of fights, but there were still 7 to go and we found a good place to stand. The atmosphere was electric ... the Thais get very passionate about the boxing ...

... some picture from inside my little ice box. I don't think I have every been so cold in my life. Oh I forgot to tell you about the bathrooms. I sent brave little Jessie to scope out the bathrooms and she was treated to a full rear view of our dear little bed makers butt. She came back to my bunk beet red and so flustered she was barely able to speak...laughing her head off. We finally built up enough courage to venture back to the bathrooms again after making sure the bed maker was ...
