After a very quick border crossing from Singapore and arriving in Mersing, there was a ferry to Tioman island later that day. Since there didn't seem to be a lot in Mersing i decided to catch the ferry straight away, and its been a wonderful, relaxing 3 days. Its a beautiful island with white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, and a good restaurant scene.

I stayed at Salang, the most northern beach on the island, and there I met an ...

... the NW of the island opposite Coral Island. I opted to stay at ABC as it has the cheapest accommodation and along with Salang is the main backpacker hangout. Their songs ranged ...

... with the current ferry provider.

    - The overcrowding problem that you may or may not be aware of on the ferry is not at all understated. Our bags were so tightly packed and crammed into the main cabin, that the extra leg room option on the front row actually resulted in less space than the other passengers. I had 3 suitcases carefully propped up against my leg for the duration of the journey, and it was a real mission for people disembarking at each stop, to ...

    Life in a hammock

... or coming up to sunset, we could usually be found in a hammock, with or without a book. We did find time to have a quick dip in the sea and go snorkelling occasionally. The snorkelling is good, you see loads of colourful fish and we managed to see another turtle. There's quite a lot of jelly fish though, most of them are tiny so you get stung but only really small stings, they just feel like someone's pinched you, then it disappears. We did see a ...
