... layers we’d peeled off in a heat-stricken panic hours before and didn’t say another word about it.

The cheap Mersing 'hotel’ was a fright, but what was more disconcerting was realizing that this is pretty much the same type of hotel I frequented while I was on my big backpacking adventure in ’08-’09, and back then I thought it was just fine. My tastes seem to be changing a little as time rolls on. I don’t ...

Well, most fish are friends, not so much the jelly fish, they hurt! Tioman is a really stunning place, with reefs and lots to see in the waters surrounding the island. We've been out on a few trips on the boat with Wasabi (local guide) who is very knowledgeable about the area and it’s been fantastic, with the exception of the jelly fish as one day we literally swam into a pile of them and got stung all over our arms and ...

This is to protect them from the many monitor lizards that are in and around the camp. Two new volunteers from England arrived so we showed them ropes and took them to ...

... the island. Really enjoyed the tour as it gave us a good sence of what the island is about and we got to see all of it! Its only 20k long, and we first stopped off on the only beach resort on the west coast - Jura , before then stopping at Muri village where we took a 10 minute walk through the rainforest to reach a waterfall where we took a well earned swim. wasn't even that cold, maybe because we were so warm and sweaty, but so refreshing! ...

... protected nesting sites; general maintenance and handyman type jobs on site; and giving guided talks to day visitors coming to the sanctuary. It only costs 40 ringitts a day and this includes dorm accommodation and breakfast and so a real bargain in my opinion. Unfortunately however both at Juara and Salang my camera stopped working and i didn’t have my camcorder with me so annoyingly was unable to get any photos of either ...
