The day starts early, and the family is bundled into a taxi at 7am. To the children's surprise we are travelling by bus - the station is large, modern, and airy, and after a quick breakfast we go, with some trepidation to meet our bus. Comfy seats, airco, and in flight enternainment is what we get - don't worry about travelling by bus in Malaysia, at least with Transnational. The poor girl in front of ...

... and tears it apart with her teeth to get a little sugar - it's quite a sight. We dip in the clear waters for a while then head back to the shack for showers. As hot as it is, swimming in the sea is lovely but a shower is always welcome. After a noodle dinner we grab a few beers at another bar, the seating areas are made up of cushions on the floors of bamboo huts (on stilts) we get comfy and watch the sunset. Lauren falls asleep under the power of Tiger beer and ...

... After reading the Lonely Planet (I have an out of date copy!) I was expecting a choice of ferry or speed boat, but it seems that these days there is only a ferry option (35 RM per person one way), and that there is currently only one company operating due to a 'tragedy'.

The 'tragedy' reference on wikivoyage left me curious and I spent a little time browsing the web for more info on this. As a result my research also confirmed some issues we experienced ...
