Historical Traveler Reviews BEST WESTERN Aku Tiki Inn Daytona Beach

    Best Hotel in Daytona Beach

I just returned from my 6th stay at the Aku Tiki and have to say, its the best hotel in Daytona Beach. The Hotel has just been remodeled and the rooms are bright with a great island look. I love having a small fridge and would highly reccommend the ground floor rooms - you can walk right out to the pool. There are lots of trees, plants, flowers and fruit trees - I think they add to the tropical feel of the place. My family loved the oceanfront picnic area and the kids especially loved playing basketball. The prices are reasonable and they even throw a cocktail party each night for the guests. The last review I read sounds like another hotel altogeher. We'll be back for sure!

    Not a nice hotel

Sure, this hotel has a decent pool, but that is it. You would have to be a "dirty butt" to think that this hotel has nice rooms. We had two different rooms and they both were dirty, had a smell to them , and looked old and outdated. The way the building sits on the property, only some of the rooms have a direct view of the ocean, the rest of them have a limited view due to a range of problems such as other buildings, and trees that block your view.

We do have a variety of room types at Best Western Aku Tiki available at varying prices. Our most popular rooms are those on the oceanfront and those with a pool and oceanview. We always do our best to accommodate any special request regarding room location.

I do hope you'll give us another try!

    I'll definitely go back

Definitely an above average hotel for Daytona Beach. I have stayed here several times in the last two years after regularly changing from one hotel to another in Daytona (overall, Orlando has a much higher standard of hotel accommodation).

I like staying at this hotel as the rooms are clean and bright and I enjoy having a great view of the pool and ocean. Even non-efficiency rooms have a small fridge which is great if like me you like to keep chilled drinks to hand. The pool is a decent size and is heated. There is also a nice grass area with loungers where you can laze about and watch the ocean. One of my favorite things to do is to spend an hour before going to bed laying out on a lounger watching the night sky; there is little light pollution and plenty of stars to look at. Last time I was there I saw a shooting star over the ocean which was great and something I will always remember from my trip. (I should say too that in the daytime you can sometimes see dolphins from this point on the beach which is another kind of nice thing about staying here).

I read a couple of the other reviews and would like to comment on some things that have been said. (A) I have never been charged to use the luggage cart, either when I have used it myself (I have stayed here four times) or when I asked a bell hop to help with a particularly heavy case. (B) The restaurant was recently closed for renovation. I haven't used it since but I think that the menu is pretty much the same standard food; fine if you want to stay in the hotel but there are nicer places to eat within 5-10 minutes walk.

I will definitely stay at this hotel next time I visit Daytona Beach.

    We kive this hotel

We have been going to this hotel for several years. We always have a poolside room. We have never had a problem here. Things have always been very clean.

    Couldn't wait to leave

In spite of the recent renovations the Aku Tiki was far from what we expected. Getting our luggage to the room was the first issue. There was an extra charge to borrow a luggage cart! When we arrived in our room it had an odor similar to smelly gym socks. We bought a can of Oust and sprayed everything to make sleeping there bearable. The carpet had a lot of stains and the bathroom didn't look like it had even been swept. Thankfully, our reservations were for just one night!

    Bad business

Stayed in this hotel after Christmas(12/29/04). The room was not ready to be occupied. They would not give us another room, and wouldn't even speak to me when I tried to talk to them after vacation. The room smelled of chemicals, where the hotel was being remodeled. They said it was paint, but it was extremely strong, and with asthama-unbearable. They would do NOTHING to solve the problem. When I called the customer service hotline-guess what, at least they said they were sorry. Since they felt they were not responsible, I won't stay at ANY B.W. anymore!!!!!! (no refunds either, even though we were supposed to get a room on the second floor, and paid for it 4 months before we arrived!. They didn't even call me to see if It'd be okay if they put us on the 5th floor.)

    Very nice time, highly recommended

Stayed there in mid jan for 4 days with my wife and toddler.

Great location - steps away from the fun beach, then jump in the large pool, very well heated (mmmm!). Has a nice grassy area with tables to play and eat. Even has a little basketball court with a decent ball and rim. shuffle board court in very good condition. Manager's reception which is basically open bar for an hour in the evening. We were disappointed that the restaurant was closed for several weeks while we were there, being with a small child and all, but they gave a free continental breakfast as apology. Also the just recently renovated rooms (because of hurricane damage) included a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. We just went to the supermarket literally right across the street and stocked up. They have coin operated washers and dryers which we ended up needing to use. The staff was very friendly and very accomodating. From the reservation, to everything we needed throughout our stay, it was a pleasureable experience. We would definately stay there again.

    The best place in daytona

i love this place, staff was so nice and profesional then many places i been in daytona. They help us out to get room and pay lowest price in june for this kinda hotel. i love it ..rooms are clean , great staff, food execelent, and beach is right there and nice and clean swimming pool. next time see ya in Aku TIki in daytona beach.. guys keep doing what you doing and you will serve me next 20 years. Thanks again

    Didnt't like at all

first of all it needs a full face lift from the inside... out..we werent allowed to have people over that wasnt staying there..we had a curfue ?sp? of 10:00 unless you were over the age of 18... the beds ere uncomfortable...the dishes were dirty and there was a $10 charge on anything extra including 1 package of coffee. therefore i didnt like the stay at all and neither did any of my family

    Superb Hotel

Took my wife and two children here in January of 2004. We had a pool side room that had a superb view. All we had to do was open the sliding glass door to our patio that was surrounded by orange and banana trees and we were 5 steps from the olympic sized heated pool. The landscaping was beatiful and well maintained. When we first arrived we were greeted and given a tour of the hotel and the facilities by a nice man named J.

He even took the time to show my kids how to call the fish in the koi pond inside the lobby. They are very strict about visitors becuase during the busy season there are lots of folks who stay at the crappy hotel and come to nice ones like this to use the pool and party, I appreciate their concern and ability to put the people who payed for their room over those who did not. This is a top notch place and we will be back very soon.

... to me about my wonderful up-coming reservation at ""El Carib" (I know - I am trying to escape from the place) and then cut me off when I took to long to decide which button I had to press next! Decided that it was not the safest of places and that we'd probably get robbed by lurking lady, so booked a hotel a bit further along away the way. We have learnt a valuable lesson today - just stick to the hotel chains. Our new hotel is nice and I will try calling Priceline again ...

The history of the fort, the role it played in US history going back to the civil war, and the shear size and unbelievable construction of this building out in the middle of the ocean, made the visit very memorable. After 4 or so hours touring the fort, walking on deserted beaches and even a little snorkeling, we head back to Key West. Once we arrived back in Key West, we walked, shopped and ate (and ...

They also said that the pump will come off without having to drop the engine so I should be able to do it my self the only difficult bit might be replacing the rubber seal. As it was $395 I hope they say yes but it's not the end of the world if not.

I awoke at 0300 for no apparent reason, I'd like to think it was my lightning spidey senses, to find the eastern horizon covered with lightning flashes on the order of 2 or 3 a second. I shot some video of it with both my iPhone and HD camcorder, but sadly neither does the spectacle any ...
