Historical Traveler Reviews of Atlantis Paradise Island Coral Towers
Horrible
from abcd18
*Hotel staff were rude and unhelpful.
*It is impossible to get towels unless you find housekeeping in the hallways and steal them from the cart.
*Watch out for falling ceiling fans, as we almost were hit by the one in our room.
*They say check-in is at 3, but it was more like 5PM.
*Hotel staff never do what they say they will do.
*Managers are impossible to find.
*Watch out for room charges that you did not charge. Make a list of everything you charge so you know what to dispute when you check out.
*Water did not work in an entire wing of the Coral Towers.
*Lots of kids.
*Not much nightlife - one club, one small casino.
*Pools close at 7PM - TOO EARLY!
*Beaches close at 6PM - TOO EARLY!
*Water activities are run by rude people on the beach.
*Would be a good vacation for a rich family who can afford to stay at Royal Towers and are going with children. The water park is good but everything closes by 6-7PM. Can't do much after that.
*15% gratuity is included on EVERYTHING you buy.
*Take alcohol and snacks with you so you don't have to buy them. There are liquor stores in Bahamas which are fairly cheap.
*Horrible service - comparable to a 1 or 2 star hotel.
Great if you've got kids!!!
from Star30
In a nutshell, the Atlantis is great if you 1/ have kids, 2/ have a fair bit of cash, 3/ not expecting a 5* hotel .
My boyfriend and I stayed in the Coral Towers which is their 'medium' type accommodation and while it was okay and clean I would rate it around a 3*!! No main complaints though!
The Atlantis is very expensive but we were aware of that before we went so weren't surprised, however for those of you that are taking children it will most definately work out to be a fairly expensive family holiday. Basically if you aren't looking for tranquillity in an ideal romantic setting etc etc then definately go here, it will be great. If you are however looking for a 5* romantic getaway with your partner then definately do not go here. It is very noisy around most of the pool areas, the rooms aren't that great in terms of decor (for the money) and it is not couples orientated at all. Even though I knew all of this I had to check it out myself as I had always wanted to go to the Atlantis!!!!
The actual resort is quite amazing, it is huge and the casino is great fun and the harbourside is good BUT as previously said if you dont have or necessary want to be surrounded by children then this is not the place for you. I would recommend the One & Only down the road!
On a plus side, the hotel staff were accommodating to our request to change our room, due to the appalling view, so if you're not happy then just ask! I've have always had very high compliments about the American cust service and they didn't fail this time!!!
Overall we had a lovely time and the Bahamas is lovely but wouldn't return to this hotel due to our expectations of a holiday.
Unfed skinny cats

Just returned from Atlantis. Beautiful place, upgraded to a room in Coral Towers, view to die for. My gripes were 15% gratuity added to everything even an icecream in Hagen Daz making 1 scoop $6. Can coke $3, 12" pizza $28 dollars, I do not mind paying a tip but $30 dollars on a $200 (£100) meal excessive. Also was disgusted to see 2 extremely thin, ill cats wandering around, one could hardly stand. When I spoke to a member of staff was told they are fed, this one isn't I can assure you. A bit sad when you think of all the money available their. Good holiday nonetheless.
What a nightmare

I read every review for months and truthfully didn't believe most of what I read but now I have my own sad tale of woe. First our room was in the Coral Tower and the balcony had a lovely view of a used condom which despite asking more than once for it to be cleaned, remained throughout my stay. On our second night we at at the Chinese restaurant, Chopstix, and the next day, my daughter and I were taken ill with what we ultimately found out was food poisoning. Uncontrollabe vomiting and diarhea. Atlantis medical services advised us to go to the hospital, which we did. They fixed us up for about $1900.00. Atlantis did nothing for us- we couldn't even speak to a manager for 3 days. They had Security take a report and kept telling us they were "doing an investigation". When we finalyy spoke to the manager she told us the investigation would take several weeks and they would "call us". They did not offer us any type of compensation at all. In addition, they charged us for items we didn't use in the mini bar and Carmine's "lost" our reservation. The food poisoning took two full days away from our trip and I never actually felt well again afterward and still don't. We missed our reservation at Mesa Grill and our sunset catamaran cruise. Take the information in these reviews seriously, I wish I had. It was a very expensive lesson.
Tooo Kids oriented and tooo expensive

My husband and I stayed a week at the coral towers. Rooms are average. Service is VERY SLOW. One day they cleaned our room at 4pm. Restaurant service is even slower ..you can wait 40 minutes before you get drinks that you ordered..and about an hour until you get your food. If you have money to spend go to Mesa grill it was superb! Don't go to Nobu. Their food was Disgusting and overpriced. My husband ordered a sashimi dinner that cost $50 dollars and he got 4 pieces of fish that he counl't eat. We couldn't even eat chicken teriyaki because it was very dry and had bones in it. Also you have to make reservations to most of the restaurants week in advance. If you want to get beach towels you better go there at 9am..otherwise you will end up spending over 40 minutes waiting in line. Also its toooo kids oriented and too many rules. Pools only 4 feet deep, You can only swim from 9am to 7pm. Plus all the activities are for kids. Gambling is the only entertainment for adults. Plus everything is too overpriced.
Three things I loved there...Mesa Grill, Beach and their fish tanks everything else is tooo overrated. I don't think that I will go back there again.
Don't believe everything you read

I been reading reviews and just visited the Atlantis and stayed in the Coral towers. We had a few problems just like you would anywhere else but having the waterpark, ocean and good weather overcame any faults.
Issues:
*The rooms are just basic in the Coral what you are paying for is the experience of the Bahamas and Water features
*The fire alarm went off 3 nights in a row.
*On the lazy river (which have waves that makes it not so lazy) my wife got tumbled over and lost the locker key. This was a $50.00 mistake. I talked to several employees and no one was willing to help since we signed the waiver for the locker... so be cafeful.
*It is $22.00 per person the leave the island via plane to help pay for the airport security.... so do not gamble all of your money.
*15% gratuity on everything. (example.. Teen club $15.00 when the bill arrived it was $18.00.. bring lots of money)
Comments:
Any time we called for anything someone would call us back and make sure the issue was handled. Food by the pool in between the new waterslides and the Cove had $28 lunch for 4 meal and a beautiful view of the ocean. Sharebites has a side place to order and you can get OK prices and the refills are free... or at least we kept getting free refills. When you are going back to your rooms for the day I recommend that you grab some pool towels and keep them for the next morning so you can secure a nice place by the pool or lazy river.... worked great for me. Also we checked a softside wheeled cooler on the plane and I went across to the markets and bought snacks and beverages to help save some money. Most of the nights we ate outside of the resort. Took cab one night and walked the others. You need to be in OK shape for this resort... a lot of walking and stairs are everywhere. Did not see any elevators except for the rooms. This resort is not for any couch potatoes!!! Maybe they are the ones writing the bad reviews. This is a very KID friendly resort. They visited the team club a few nights and had a blast and of course all of the water features. They will not be disappointed. If you need a quality on time driver use the guy we did (Godfrey Simms - Try a Google search with his name and the word "Bahamas" the guidelines for this site does not allow me to give you his info... sorry!!! ). On the night we went out to eat off the resort we ended up at the Ocean Club and you can use your resort key to purchase drinks or eat. It was nice very quaint and no kids running around. One last note: Beware of renting watersports from the people on the beach because of insurance issues. Some US insurances do not cover you unless you are traveling to another country on business.
Great Vacation
from TamEiland
We recently visited the Atlantis with our 2 children(ages 5 and 8) and another family that had children the same ages. I had read MANY previous reviews of the Atlantis and had prepared myself for the worst but, I was pleasantly surprised. Our airport transportation was a quick and easy as was check in. Our rooms were average hotel rooms, but nothing to complain about(We stayed in Coral Towers). All of the food was excellent. We did not do the dining plan but we carried snacks for breakfast with us and ate whatever we wanted the rest of the time. Lunch for 4 would be about $50 and dinner about $200. A little pricey but at least it was good. We really enjoyed Carmine's, Sea Fire, Chop Stix, and the Marina pizza. We also ate off property at the Poop Deck and it was good. The staff was very friendly. They treated us the same way we treated them. We tipped everyone who helped us with ANYTHING. A great tip I read off of here was to wear shoes to walk around. The ground is burning up hot!!! and you may have to walk a good distance to get to some of the water activities. We would choose a pool to hang around for the day and get there by 10 am to reserve our seats. If you waited too long there would be no seats left. Overall it was a great vacation and we can't wait to return!
I got married during my stay
from gonutts
I went to ATLANTIS Coral Towers with my fiance and 2 friends.Just got back today! I had the best time. I am glad we went before Kids got out for Christmas Break. And I am glad we went during off time week (sun-wed), because the resort is so big, that You don't want to NOT get the attention you need. Everyone on the Island was fabulous! The Resort as well. I got towels at the pool quickly, The water park lines were quick, there are so many restuarants-some very expensive (TOBU-$$$$) and others regular (Johnny Rockets, Starbucks, etc-all on the property). The rooms were fine, not the RITZ or anything, but clean and quiet, all the T.V. ammenities, a mini bar, phones, balconies,,I worked at the Marriott Ft Lauderdale Resort last year, and the drinks are the same price (9$ daqu). So, plan on Hotel prices for some stuff. But, there is a comedy show on propety that was soooo funny ($20), there is a movie theatre (free), casino, gym(15$), spa, ocean stuff...I got married through a company that picked me up(Amour Affairs-Paulette-)she was great! the hotel staff was at my beck and call- And i ordered room serivce, had my dress steamed, had wake up calls, i called about questions to get my hair done, I got my hair done for my wedding..Everyone on the property and off were super nice. I ate off property at LUCIANOS ITALIAN..it was on ocean overlooking ATLANTIS HOTEL-Spectacualr! I have visited many other of the Bahamas- noone has ever made me feel so safe or as thankful as NASSAU- but also, GRATUITY is added to EVERYTHING-so their economy is doing great!SO MAYBE THAT IS WHY THEY ARE SO HAPPY. GO, have fun, all ages were there from babys to grandparents- I went for 3 nts/4days..perfect.
