... we have been close to Johor Baru while at Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, but we have always been travelling in the other direction and haven’t yet been able to fit it in. We do have it etched into our itinerary as a definite for mid January, so look out in the post around the last week of Jan. Kate did consider sending you a leaflet of all the activities you can do there from a tourist shop but we didn’t think you would appreciate that too much!
Anyway ...
... her way at Thorpedo speed (Ian Thorpe’s nickname – Australian Olympic swimmer for those not in the know) towards me. All the while I’m trying not to drown while doubled over in laughter. She gets to me and with a face of disbelief and shock recounts the moment a fish bit her on the bum! Then finishes off the story with a “Why didn’t you tell me fish bite? I thought it was a barracuda and ...

Krabi, Thailand elinebouckaert... them sitting in a small group around a bottle of Black Cat Whiskey drinking the stuff straight without ice from white plastic cups. I wai them politely asking them in my halting and badly pronounced Thai for a cup of this sharp heavy stuff, the perfect medicine for my hang-over. they laugh softly at the 50 Baht note in my poffered hand and thereby actually saving me face though you need the know the Thai ways to realise that!!!
krabi, Thailand farang020... Cars, motorbikes, shirts. Boys here LOVE pink. >Fanta creme soda pop bottles with straws as offerings in front of spirit houses (because ghosts apparently need a straw to drink from). >the widest feet I have ever seen. Whether in flip-flops or fancy shoes, men and women alike have ridiculously wide feet, toes spread apart like fingers, with a baby toe, a big toe, or half of the foot hanging off the ...
Krabi, Thailand janice21Well it has been quite a long while since we last updated progress this side of Myanmar, but just because we've reached Malaysia doesn't mean that the hitching's stopped. Having missed the slow cultural shift because of the unfortunately necessary free flight over Myanmar we decided that the best way to made amends was to hitch to Myanmar from this side, thus completing our ...
Koh Jum, Thailand steveandwill... We got a Long Tail boat over and checked in, then spent the afternoon drinking Jasmine tea and 'real' coffee at a shack by the beach. It's beer o'clock soon (we're learning a new way of keeping time - hungry, thirsty, tired - not necessarily in that order) and a rock band is coming to play from Koh Samui so we'll be moshing and crowd surfing, or more likely mud surfing tonight. Krabi, but particularly Ton Sai is known for its rock climbing and ...
Krabi, Thailand alicerosee... any situation you encounter into something positive if possible. It may not always seem possible, but if you set your attitude on that mindset, it can be. We got into Ko Phi Phi around 6pm, and were so tired, we took the first hostel that had bargained us at the port, and just layed down. Not the nicest place, and in fact, pretty far from the center, but we didn't care, we were happy to be clean and finally settled somewhere. We had a nice candle ...

Penang, Malaysia-Krabi, Thailand. November 12th, 1999
The day I left Penang is when things turned around for me. I jumped on a minibus headed for Krabi, Thailand and on that bus were three travellers from England. One of the three was a young woman, Becky, who was travelling on her own. It took me fumbling with my visa papers at the Malaysia/Thailand border to finally break the ice(two hours into the bus ride) and when we got back on the ...
