Historical Traveler Reviews of Andaman Holiday Resort Hotel Krabi
What a Gem of a place
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just returned from 10 absolutely idealic days at the Andaman. What a Gem of a place, so beautiful, tranquil and relaxing. I can only reiterate all comments made by the previous reviewer, it truly is one of the most lovely places we have ever stayed.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the food of excellent quality and service first class.
As previously mentioned, there are 3 or 4 restaurants very close to the entrance of the resort, one being Daddys Home, which provided excellent food at amazing prices. We also ate at a restaurant about 200 metres down the beach called Ruan Siam, this too was excellent.
We had a full oil body massage on the beach for 300 baht, what a bargain and a lovely relaxing experience.
The free bus into Ao Nang was very useful and popular. I was very glad we were not staying in Ao Nang but enjoyed shopping etc there. Found a great restaurant called Bernies place where a buffet/BBQ is held every night from around 6pm. Huge choice of thai food, steaks, kebabs, salads, chips, mashed potato!, plus fruit and ice cream. Eat as much as you like for around £3. Basic, but very clean and good fresh food.
Went on a 4 island trip by long tail boat for around £6 each including lunch, throughly enjoyed it, great swimming in the crystal clear, aquamarine sea with all the fish around you.
All in all this was a wonderful holiday and a great antidote to 4 days in Bangkok (which we also enjoyed)
I honestly can't stop thinking about the Andaman and wish I was back there now,a view shared by my husband. It seemed to have a magic all of its own. Cant wait to return, start saving now!!!
A really.really lovely hotel
from Ponytailpaul
My wife and I have just returned to England after eleven nights at the Andaman. We can only say that this is a really lovely hotel and a lot of website pictures do not do it justice. In no particular order, the staff were fantastic, the hotel was spotless, the rooms great, the gardens and layout beautiful and established, the beach uncrowded and sandy, the food perfect. We were booked into a cottage which was nice and clean and tidy and we would have been quite happy in, but we were offered a villa upgrade for a very reasonable extra rate which we took. The villa had a roof with sunbeds and chairs and a thatched roof on top of that. We spent a lot of time up there lazing about and reading as the view was realy nice as you are up level with the trees. As with any hotel you can eat out cheaper and there are several little restaurants outside the hotel, but when we did eat in the food was lovely and the hotel put on a couple of traditional dance shows with buffet which were excellent. The grounds are really well established with hundreds of plants and trees with birds, butterflies and squirrely things jumping about. The hotel is not in a busy resort ( which we liked especially after three days in Bangkok ) Ao Nang is about 20 mins by complmentary hotel bus and Krabi about 30 mins ( a small charge).Taxis are easily booked and you can hire cars and scooters, etc. You can do plenty of site seeing and there are loads of islands you can go to in the longtail boats, the nearest being Chicken Island. There is some loose coral on the beach and there is some old coral reef in the shallows but at high tide swimming was fine also If you walk about a hundred yards down the beach the Sheraton ( next door but does not intrude )have somehow had permission to remove the coral there so you can go straight in. I think most of the beaches are the same in Krabi so it might be worth packing swimming shoes. Anyway, writing this makes me wish we were still there, everybody we met at the hotel was totally happy and we would definitely go back again.
Excellent Value

We recently returned from a 2 week holiday at the Andaman Holiday Resort and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The staff are the best part of this hotel. Da, Nat, Lee and Sun, to name but a few, were all most attentive and friendly, even taking us out on a family night out!
The accomodation was adequate and clean (Cottage)however, the overall setting and location of the hotel more than made up for the basic room.
Food was excellent - especially the Prawns, which were more like Lobsters! The food and drink were good value for money.
Everyone spoke really good english. The trips were cheap and very enjoyable.
The hotel is a way from the towns, so if night life is your thing then this may not be the hotel for you as you would have to spend a fair amount on taxi rides to and from Ao Nang and Krabi Town.
The beach was clean and the sea warm and swimming with the baby elephant from the next door hotel was an unexpected bonus!
All in all - it is excellent value for a very relaxing holiday.
Nature Lovers Paradise

We have just returned after spending 2 weeks at the Andaman Holiday Resort. It is an absolute paradise hidden away in a quieter part of Krabi. The resort has beautiful landscaped gardens and on arrival, you immediately lose yourself in the peaceful and tranquil surroundings. We stayed in the cottage and have no complaints. We found it very clean (cleaned daily), tastefully decorated, with a nice patio to relax at the end of the day. The villas have a patio and a private rooftop terrace (if you go for the villa, go for 135 or 145 which has beautiful views of 1 of the swimming pools). The breakfast buffet was delicious and is taken in a restaurant perched high above with a stunning view of the surrounding forest and beachfront. All the staff (reception, cleaning, gardening and restaurant) were very friendly and pleasant and made us feel like royalty. The restaurant prices are reasonable however we found a very nice family restaurant called Daddy's Home just opposite the entrance to the resort with tasty food in a pleasant setting at very cheap prices. The beachfront is beautiful, quiet and perfect for just chilling out and unwinding. Please note however that it is not a soft sandy beachfront. There are lots of natural pebbles and corals around on the sand and in the shallow part of the water. Please take strap-on sandals or aqua shoes for swimming in the beachfront. The water is lovely though and we enjoyed swimming in the beachfront. There is a wonderful local lady (called Rockia) on the beachfront who sells fruits (mangos are delicious), drinks and snacks. There is also a free hotel shuttle bus (every 2 hours) from the hotel to Ao Nang where there is lots of shops, bars and nightlife. We have no doubt in recommending this resort to anyone who is looking for a relaxing and unwinding holiday in a beautiful and tranquil setting. We were very sad to say goodbye and hope to visit in the near future.
Quite Andaman

Just got back from Krabi. Andaman Holiday Resort is beautifully situated within a wonderful garden garden. ALthough we stayed at one their best rooms we found it very dated dated. It offers good value for money, but it is unfortunately very quite. The staff was excellent made us feel at home.
Mixed feelings

Just come back from this 'resort' where way stayed for 11 days following 4 days in Bangkok.
First, the good points. The accommodation was very pleasant, clean, well maintained, fabulous grounds and the staff were incredibly helpful. The beach was beautiful and quiet, only the odd local selling postcards and trips to various islands. The food was pretty good, although we stuck to the Thai menu, so can't vouch for international fayre. The tailor based in the resort was very good, we had a number of items made and all were excellent quality and value.
Ok, sounds perfect, but this place did have its faults. The rooms although clean always smelled a little damp, and were a bit dated. The staff outnumbered the guests about 2 to 1, and so were far more attentive than necessary, I almost felt as though I were being followed! The resort had so few guests while we were there, it resembled a ghost town, and people would come down to eat at 10pm, only to find the staff clearing all the tables of placemats, ready to go home (at the end of their 12 hours shift, 6 days a week). We witnessed new guests arrive, come down to the bar all dressed up for a night out, only to look disappointed at the lack of action, and disappear back to their room.
We were unfortunate with the weather during our stay, with only 3 days of clear sunshine, and about 4 days of constant rain, which probably exascerbated our frustration. Furthermore, the resort is a good 20 minute (400 baht) taxi ride to Ao Nang, where there are dive shops and other establishments where you can book excursions out for half the price as the hotel. We went on a full day speedboat trip with Barracudas to Phi Phi for 1300 baht, same as the 2200 baht trip offered at the resort. This included lunch and hotel transfers.
We thought the hotel would form a good base if it was better located, otherwise it should become a proper resort and offer more in the way of a holiday atmosphere. The lack of business may be due to the tsunami (yet this hotel was luckily untouched) but is probably more to do with the Sheraton opening nearby.
Paradise for the second time

For the second time I have stayed at this hotel and yet again had a wonderful holiday. Many of the staff remembered me which I find very surprising knowing how many faces they must see. The incredible relaxed and family atmosphere where nothing is too much trouble is worth everything on a holiday and the fantastic natural setting is second to none. For anyone who loves nature, this hotel is a must.

Being a discerning traveller who has travelled extensively worldwide, I can thoroughly recommend "The Andaman Holiday Resort" in Krabi. It is a little gem tucked into glorious Klong Muang beach, rarely found, and certainly not at the very reasonable prices. The tropical gardens are imaginatively planned and well-tended; their beauty cannot be described- they have to be seen! All staff members are courteous, nothing is too much trouble for them, and there is a lady at the tour desk who understands and speaks very good English. We went on a tour with Franco, who speaks excellent English, and tasted the best Tempura prawns ever ( included in the tour price ). The delightful main restaurant is perched high amongst the trees with sea views, and offers quality food at reasonable prices. There are three swimming pools and a jacuzzi at the resort, and the picturesque bay has views of Phuket and other tropical islands. We were fortunate to be upgraded to a villa, but I viewed the other rooms and would be very happy to stay in any of the accommodation. This is a charming resort- a little bit of paradise at down-to-earth prices! I cannot praise it highly enough.
The Perfect Hideaway
from Millie1112
The Andaman was recommended as an out of the way idylic retreat and it certainly didn't disappoint. If you enjoy secluded back to nature relaxing accomodation the Andaman is a great choice. The rooms at the resort are spacious and well equipped although in need of some refurbishment with the restaurants being of good quality food and value for money. For those that do not wish to remain resort bound there are a number of excellent eateries within walking distance and the resort of Ao Nang a ten minute drive away. Set amongst a lushious old rubber plantation the resort boasts beautiful views over the Andaman Sea. The staff are excellent making this the perfect base to explore the surrounding islands and inland national parks. A perfectly situated hotel and excellent value for money.
Andaman Holiday Resort

The AHR although not as plush as it's down the road neighbors, excells in all aspects of customer serves, food preparation and their owners and staff are by far the most friendliest we encountered during the three months we vacationed in the Ao-Nang, Krabi areas. The price of the rooms are well within reason and the accomodations are all that a family needs for a great time by the Andaman Sea. A choice of three swimming pools or walking distance to the edge of the surf makes for a fun time especially for the children. With plans to update their fitness area plus a grand snooker table, well stocked gift shop and tour and travel services, the AHR is our choice next year for another great vacation down south.
