... they were quite busy but the food was very good. We finished the evening off with a drink at Ska Bar which was packed with tsunami volunteers and survivors. Over a hundred of them had had Christmas Lunch at Walkers Inn and the party had by this time moved to Ska Bar. There was a good atmosphere and with one or two santa outfits in evidence and some fireworks it finally felt a little bit like Christmas.

... Eventually our destination was called out and we got on our bus which left slightly later than advertised but this didn't matter as we seemed to have Lewis Hamilton's Thai cousin at the wheel. We spent more time on the other side of the road overtaking vehicles than we did on the correct side. Just a tropical breeze and a seating area set at treetop level so you feel like you are in a tree house. I can't even tell from this vantage point that their is a resort below the treetops. It's a jungle paradise. We are asked to sit down and given a welcome drink while we are checked in. We are far too classy ...

... an area full of Russians and 5 star resorts. We had to ask around and eventually scored a map of the city from a really nice lady in one of these hotels. She told us we would have a better chance for budget accommodation downtown in the market area, which we had passed with the bus and that was according to a source 4 km away. The problem with places like here is that it is full of the wrong kind of tourists: the ones that are not so rich in their country but once in thailand it ...

... that evening. The bulk would party until the early morning.

Still, I think I stood out a bit. One of the most serious partiers, the evangelical hedonist, kept circling back to check on me. For him, if a glass of wine was good, then a bottle was better. If jumping into the water was good, then doing a backflip off the bimini was better. If grinding on one person was good, better to grind on five people. You only had one life; live it to the fullest ...
