We had now finished teaching at the local primary schools. All the schools had either already started their long “summer” holidays or were involved in end of term tests and exams. We understood, however, that Sunny and Ken had a few “English Camps” lined up for us and so there would still be some work for us to do. The first English Camp was scheduled for this week and we had all been looking forward to it as it was going to be ...

... It was interesting that they both spoke quietly and yet the children still listened to them and responded well. It shows that you don’t necessarily need the loud, dictatorial approach adopted by my recent colleagues. With the older children we did “Food Containers” again. The two girls really enjoyed it and didn’t make a single critical remark all morning. What a lovely change! They tucked into the lunch we shared with the teachers and even ...

We watched the movie "The Good Lie" which was very touching, ...

... and so enjoyed the unusual luxury of air-con. We taught the youngsters for the first three classes. They were lively as usual but their teacher stayed in the room for a much of the time and this helped a lot as they were as good as gold when she was there.

Martin too was reasonably well behaved although he has adopted the slightly sinister habit of opening up an A4 notepad in the middle of the lesson, sitting down and starting to make notes. ...

... reason. Upon arriving this year I found that they had planted a new young palm tree just to the side of it and slap bang in the middle of the path I used to follow. I haven’t walked into it yet but have come close a few times! "Who put that there?"

On Thursday Anton and I were back at Fai Tha school. We hadn’t brought enough worksheets with us and so had to spin out the first two classes for longer than usual. Anton had the children doing a ...
