... We asked the taxi to drop us at the Boatyard Restaurant but we were too late to get a sunbed there. A 5 minute walk down the beach brought us to Nong Sib Sorng Restaurant where there were plenty. The beach was as lovely as ever and I took the opportunity of leaving my things with Nicky whilst I went for a long walk down the beach.

We had quite a wait for our spicy salads at lunchtime as the restaurant was unusually busy but it was such an idyllic spot at which to ...

One of the local attractions is the Similan Islands National Park which is a little over an hour away from Khao Lak by speedboat. The National Park is made up of a number of islands and is famous for its white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and biodiversity.

It's a jungle paradise. We are asked to sit down and given a welcome drink while we are checked in. We are far too classy ...

... when we arrive, locals assume we have the same kind of money, that we can spend 200baht each on a taxi to downtown or 2000baht on a room. Mistake. I asked around for a "sawngthaew" which is a small local public bus and is normally about 20baht to get in. I was told those only go in the morning. So i asked this man how HE would get to downtown, he told me "i have motorbike". We had to face the reality of walking 4km in the heat with our backpacks, not a very nice thing to do I can ...

... that evening. The bulk would party until the early morning.

Still, I think I stood out a bit. One of the most serious partiers, the evangelical hedonist, kept circling back to check on me. For him, if a glass of wine was good, then a bottle was better. If jumping into the water was good, then doing a backflip off the bimini was better. If grinding on one person was good, better to grind on five people.
