Gwahanol iawn oedd ein croeso i Iquitos i gymharu a Lima... Profiad byth gofiadwy oedd hedfan yn isel dros yr Amazon wrth baratoi i lanio ar ddarn bach o darmac wedi ei osod yn ofalus yng nganol môr o wyrddni coedwig trofannol Peru. Tref wedi ei geni o dyfiant y farchnad rwber yn yr ardal yw Iquitos, wedi ei adeiladu yn strategol ar lannau yr Amazon, i alluogi cludiant rhwydd y deunydd crai ar hyd ei dyfroedd. Yn ddiweddar, twristiaeth ecolegol yw prif fusnas y ddinas brysur hon, ond yr afon ...
Iquitos, Peru iwanellis... year they are all resting on wooden Balsa beams awaiting the next flood. We went round the market where EVERYTHING could be bought, massive worms, snails, monkeys, sloths, terrapins (alive or butchered ready to cook), huge rats, snakes, fish, barrels of rum and some of the weirdest fruit and veg you could imagine. We took a boat on the Amazon, a mototaxi all over the town, had a Peruvian meal (40 soles for 2 ...
Iquitos, Peru countyman... next dry season. The lines on some of the trees, indicating the heights of the floodwaters, was quite impressive. We found tapir tracks, recognized the spiny urchin like poisonous trees, the seibu tree cotton, and the leaf-cutter ants handiworks. We got to a vine and Falcon chopped part of it off with his machete. “Jungle garlic. It is supposed to repel mosquitoes.” We sniffed it-it smelled exactly like garlic. We rubbed pieces of the bark on ...
Iquitos, Peru bjergaard... team (some more equipped than others - read no shoes) to compete for a tournament. Eventually we got bored watching soccer and decided to walk around in the village-or the one street that it consisted of. The houses in the village were all identically elevated off the ground with waist high walls, thatched roofs, and surrounded by some nice looking rice fields. Mid-step Andy grabbed my arm and yelled at me to watch out, but I didn’t know if I was ...
Iquitos, Peru bjergaard... was a surprisingly and almost depressingly small quantity of mosquitoes-none! I think I saw two all night! After traveling around the globe for a year and a half, I am sad to say that Minnesota/Wisconsin and the Boundary Waters areas take the cake for mosquito and general buggage problems. I don’t know how we don’t have malaria in the northwoods-bugs are far worse there!

The boat set sail the next morning around 11. The best way to describe ...
Iquitos, Peru bjergaard... a little, watching really really bad (and fairly unsuitable for young children) movies of an evening, watching the world go by incredibly slowly, being annoyed at the venders crowding the boat at every stop yelling ´hay panes´, ´hay gaseolas´, watching numerous amounts of bananas being loaded onboard, trying not to murder the roosters that had come along for the ride to arrend a cockflight in Iquitos on the day of our arrival. Etc Etc. Needless to say ...
Iquitos, Loreto, Peru becstar26...
Iquitos, Loreto, Peru bourlingueur... for what it was but I was too tired to argue. He also charged me what I later learned was an outrageous price for the taxi ride...10 times what it should've been. He dropped me there and then wanted to arrange for him to give me a tour of the town the next day at 7 a.m! Are you nuts??!!!? First of all, that's waaaay to early. And secondly, I didn't trust the guy. 8 o'clock? No, I said, I don't want ...
Iquitos, Peru margreet98We took numerous forms of transport to reach the small village on the Yaraba river where I'll be staying tonight. Buses, tuk-tuk's and a boat were required to reach this small tributary of the Amazon. We left Iquitos for the forest at 7am. In total it took around 4 hours to reach the submerged village where the rainy season has caused the river level to rise 25 metres above it's normal level. It rained for most of the journey, which wasn't surprising. Our home for the ...
Nauta, Peru christosp... flexible and bouncy and provided enough comfort to sleep on. No sheets, no blankets; they sleep in their clothes on the floor. The family of four all slept together in this small room. Yet at night, the lack of privacy proved to be no obstacle for my host and his wife to 'consume' their marriage. The creaking sound coming from the room, in combination with the rhythmic movement of the entire house left nothing to the imagination ...
