Arriving in Koh Panghan
Arriving in Koh Panghan Land of the famous full moon Party! OK, lets be totally honest here. I know just about all of you will think we are lying, but we actually didn't want to go. Everything we have heard on the "Travellers Route" has been bad bad bad. You know the type of thing - way too commercial, loads of fighting, too many lager louts, …
Arriving in Phuket
Arrived in Phuket on time and got some nice pictures from the plane as we approached Phuket Island. Met our airport pickup and were driven to Patong and our hotel, Amari Coral Beach Resort. We checked in and were walked to our room which was a fair way from the reception building and overlooked the sea with views around to Patong Beach. After …
Exploring the region
... a beachfront hotel). I got a picture with eagle on my shoulder, then at an elephant camp Linda was feeding the elephant while I had a monkey on my lap. Off to two other beaches. We went to the top of the big Buddha, that is still being worked on (I think it will be eventually gold, but for now its cement color, with scaffolding, but viewable from miles away);, and business the temple at chalon, a beautiful temple just down the hilltop from the Big Buddha, we went to have ...
Patong and Kamala (Phuket)
... was many bars all under one roof. We ended up drinking in here mostly as the beer was cheap and lots of sport was being shown on TVs, including some tennis!
In the daytime the main beach street is a hassle, with tailors, dodge DVD shops, taxis and hammock sellsmen try to get your attention. In the night though there is a good selection ...
Train, eat, sleep, repeat
... more authentic.
Training was basically 5 hours a day, 6 days a week. We would wake up around 7:30 and go for a 4km run and then punch the bags, trainers or eachother for 2 more hours. Then do it again at 3:30pm. This was in the south of Thailand where it gets very hot very fast. I dont think I have ever sweated as much as when I trained there. And it all drips everywhere, but everyone does the same, so no one cared. ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Amari Coral Beach Phuket Patong
A very pleasant getaway
We stayed at the Amari for ten nights and could not complain at all with the service and the facilities. The pool is lovely (there are two to choose from) and one warm night we went down to the beach and went for a refreshing swim in the sea. It is close enough to Patong (about 100 baht if you get a tuk-tuk) if you want to walk in, which we did on several occasions. The food in La Gritta was good - although I could not get used to the chilled red wine?! We ordered room service on a few occasions and it was prompt and the food was very good. Rooms were cleaned every day and I requested a thai massage on my last evening there, which was promptly organised for me at a cost of 800 baht for 90 mins! It was one of the best massages I had in Thailand. all in all, I would go back to the Amari Coral Beach without hesitation - pleasant staff, cold jasmine scented towels, clean rooms and decent food. What more could you want on your island getaway?
What a hotel should be....
I first stayed at this hotel 10+ years ago, when I was on a tight budget. It was invariably friendly and welcomming.
In all I must have returned on 20+ occsions over the years and always look forward to returning.
Great pool for laps. Another for lounging around.
Rooms are superb - faultless, with uninterupted views to sea literally a few metres away from balconies. Ideal for breakfast and later night drinks.
Great choice of food and restaurants are exceptional (apart from the thai restaurant which lacks atmosphere) but room service thai is spot on and the balcony is probbaly the best venue ever if "a deux".
Spa works well, I love to have a 6pm massage at sunset.....
Room maids (after a quiet word and a few hundred baht tip) are always happy to help me pack, cart off clothes to laundry without all the form filling etc. I'm not good at domestic stuff!
Not pricey either.
This isn't a 5 star hotel. It's better - more like staying with an old friend.
The only hotel to stay in Patong!
Excellent value
We stayed here recently and were pleasently surprised tby the experience.. We booked the weekend getaway package from their website which included one dinner, daily breakfast, two massages and airport transfers for aroun 80 USD per night. This is some deal. They are in a quiet location near but seperate from Patong. The hotel is clean and well kept and the staff is very nice and reserved. They have very poor fitness facilities. The spa is great and elevated above the beach. The food is good not great. The beach is a bit rocky but clean and quiet. Overall an above avergae 3 star resort with great prices.
Seaview everywhere
We stayed in the hotel from 12 Oct to 17 Oct 2005. My husband and myself definitely had a great experience.
Room - clean, new, spacious, great balcony with great seaview.
Breakfast - good spread
Staff - very friendly
With the structure of the hotel, you will be facing the sea in every part of the hotel. Be it in your room, having breakfast, swimming in the pool, at the loby, in any of their restuarants.
The hotel was located a corner of Patong with own private beach and jetty. Though set on the busy Patong beach, but the location of the hotel made it quiet and private enough for those who wanted to be away from the crowd. However, be prepared to walk up and down a slope if you are intending to visit the shops at busy patong. Alternatively, you can choose to pay 100Baht for a Tut-Tut ride for 2 person.
Deserves higher rating
Stayed between 24-27th September 05'. Picked up on other reviews on this site and decided to try this hotel out. It's set on a small cliff 3 minutes from Patong with fabulous views over the sea and surrounding hills. Although the hotel has its own private beach, it's quite rocky though the water is much clearer as compared to the beach front in Patong town. Breakfast at the hotel is probably the pick for us where we whiled away most of our mornings. The restaurant is set very close to the sea front and it's very easy to forget your meal as you gaze far out to sea. The birds are quite friendly too and will hop onto your table to join you for breakfast! The Italian restaurant is also great with again, a fantastic view over the sea. The rooms were really cosy and staff couldn't be quicker to rush over to your room for anything that you wished for. Overall, I think the hotel exceeded our expectations and we would definitely return.
P.S: we liked the hotel so much, we only went to Patong twice!
Great hotel with even better staff
We were at the Coral Beach from the 5th to 17th of September.
This hotel is first class. The food was very good. The staff, who were always smiling, were friendly but professional.
It's postion is excellent - slightly removed from the resort of Patong beach. Close enough for a short walk in - get a tuk tuk back because it is uphill towards the hotel.
It was good to see the management out an about around the hotel.
Amazing, we loved it!
Although this hotel was badly hit by the Tsunami and re-opened a month before we got there (we stayed in August 2005) you would never have known. The hotel was beautiful, the private beach was great, the pools, service and people were fantasitc. Its set at the end of Patong so away from the hustle and bustle but easy to go into the town...just 5 mins by a Tut tut.
We ate at the hotel once, although pricey was fabulous - the Thai restuarant was just superb.
The rooms were great and well kept and maintained. I cannot fault this wonderful hotel and although Expedia put it down as a 3.5 star its definately a 4+
They made our honeymoon memorable and we certainly felt special. Would recommend this to anyone and would love to go back one day.
Loved the amari
Felt I had to write to let everyone know that phuket and in particular Patong has recovered well from the tsunami, all it needs now is tourists to spend their money here,
We stayed at the hotel Amari Coral Beach in Patong, great hotel, the staff are wonderful, nothing is to small for them to fix for you ,we were upgraded to a deluxe room and it was lovely, obviously redone after the tsunami, but really clean, fresh towels etc everyday,we were well looked after.Particular praise to the manager Daniel, the restaurant manager Veena and the pool barman Arthit, also the towel fella Sanje.
Many thanks to everyone at the amari

Paradise uncovered, beautiful people, beautiful place.
when i arrived it was dark. Hotel was beautiful, staff were so friendly. Walked into our room and the bed was turned back and there were flowers on the bed, so not like home.
When the sun came up and i opened the curtain i was amazed. Beautiful views over the sea into the town centre.
The pool overlooked the sea and i felt that i never wanted to come home.
It is my aim in life to return to the amari coral beach and feel the same way again.
Honeymoon at Amari Coral - GREAT location
Just a note to say that we recently returned from our honeymoon in Phuket at Amari Coral Beach resort. It was wonderful, we were spoilt and had fruit left in our room almost everyday, a honeymoon cake delivered to us, flowers in the room. The staff were wonderful and the hotel ammentities great.
I think the best thing about Amari has to be the location. It has its own private beach and is away from the noise and hussle and bussle of Patpong beach front and yet only a few very easy minutes away. Absolutely super all round and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Phuket who wants he best of both, easy access to the lively beach front, yet the chance to get away from it to your own private beach and some quiteness.
brilliant !
