We arrived into Madeira harbour around 7 a.m. and the first thing you notice is how different the island is from Grand Canary. The Island of Madeira juts straight up from the ocean, with cliffs and mountains of rock. It is also a green island with trees and beautiful vegetation. Like Hawaii, bougainvillea grows like a weed here.

lovely place with lots of history. Sorry mom it is up hill both ways
again. It has been around since the 1400's. The first hotel was
built here then by an Englishman. They actually had geothermal
electricity in 1896. They had street lights then, and I think we

Made it to Funchal
We had a long day yesterday. We started out at 4.30 to the airport. IT was an hour drive we got lost once but all is well. We had to fly to Madrid, Spain, then to Lisbon Portugal and then to Madeira. Our Mdeira flight was cancelled, but they did get us on another flight at 10 pm. Then it was delayed until 10.30 and we thought it was going to be cancelled. ...
