Road Trip

We hired a car for two days to go exploring in and around the Cairns area. First we headed north towards Cape Tribulation. We stopped on the way at Mossman Gorge, where we had a 30min walk along the gorge up to a swing bridge and lookout. There was a longer walk (about 3km) that we could have done, but being short on time we opted against that. It's a really pretty and scenic walk and worth a stop for. After Mossman Gorge we headed up to Daintree Village for a spot of lunch, before catching t...

It wasn't long before i fell asleep in the chair for 3 hrs though, i woke up all groggy and went and got showered as i thought i should venture into the centre of cairns this evening.

I had dinner in the hostel which was pretty good, Fish and ...

Thursday we booked into a day tour to go visit and snorkel in the great barrier reef-we also decided to do another intro scuba dive there-we have already done 1 in cyprus but was only on a beach so ...

Stranded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!- Alice Springs to Cairns

... your money to buy a drink. The roadhouse claim to fame, although its grim, is that a British backpacker was abducted just 12k down the road, he's never been found but his girlfriend managed to escape the attacker and she was at times suspected to be involved in his disappearance but she wasn't, perhaps you remember it? Back on the coach and the backpacker disappearance wasn't far from my mind and I can't reiterate enough how baron it is in the middle of Aus, the cattle farms ...

... in single file down a steep incline into a stream and forward as they climbed up. what happened to the flatlands. i asked the guides not to keep pinting out snake marks in the ground and huge spiders spanning two trees 300 yards apart. this wasn't necessary and hadn't been included in their publicity. i must admit though, as time went on and my thighs started to relax into a rhythem i could see the attrsaction of horseriding for single females and positivly chortled when we ...

Phase 6: Cairns

... in their shark tank exhibit. Several times a day they let divers have the thrill of hanging out in the tank and observing the marine life up close. Though hardly challenging it was a very cool experience to swim among the large fish and even pet them. The most dangerous fish in the entire tank was not a shark at all but rather a territorial Maori Wrasse with a bad temper. All in all it was a very interesting way to spend an hour and it got me mentally prepped for diving later in ...

Cairns

... anyone staying at the resort in the 18-35 age bracket in the last two days, everyone seemed middle aged or had come as a family. I found this a little odd considering this was the hotel where almost all people starting or finishing a Contiki tour in Cairns stay, and tomorrow morning my tour would be leaving from here. Not that it really mattered though, as I was sure I would meet the masses as we jumped on the bus and started our tour early the next morning.
