Before we went to sleep we heard a noisy chorus of bullfrogs in the little river below our rear balcony. Going to the loo at two thirty in the morning Amanda happened to wake me this time. So I spent some time tweaking bits of this - to bore me to sleep. I'm sure that this IPad is getting a bit full of text and photos and tired. Today was the day to get out of the city and head to the hills. We had heard such good things about Solvang that we decided to make a day and night out of it. We headed out of Pasadena on the tangle of roads that is the Los Angeles freeway system. On the bus, I met ...

... 55 year old semi retired bankers with double chins!

I got a first class ass whuppin today! I was able to hang with the Alpha's only until the ride went vertical at about the 10 mile mark....up a 1/2 mile climb at 18 - 20 mph....The good news is that I wasn't the only victim picked on today. Two other guys and I attempted to reel the Alpha's back in by pace lining along relatively flat roads at ...

    ... delicious.

I continue to wander around some more and decide to try and find the nearby monastery. I had no idea where it was and decided to drive around hoping I'd find it. I spent a couple hours getting myself familiarised with Santa Barbara. As I drive back towards the town centre, I come across signs for the monastery.

It's one of the older monastery's that line the California coast. To me, it was simply magnificent. ...
