Solvang is a small upmarket town established back in the day by a group of Danish immigrants. They bought 9,000 acres and set about recreating a little bit of Scandinavia in California. There are still many buildings built in the Danish style and several windmills around the town. Most of the big chains (Maccas and the like) are not present yet, which is nice as the businesses are locally owned.

... our cinnamon rolls at the motorhome and we didn’t really need anything…..as they say, it’s always good to visit after eating a large lunch!! I did find some yoga shoes in one of the shops, so we left some of our money in this little village. I can now mark Solvang off my list. It was a cute, tourist town that was fun to visit for a few hours.

Had a relaxed breakfast with Shelaagh & Karl, as the decision was taken that we would spend the day with them, rather than dash off on the first day of the journey.Spent some time sorting out Stanley - Martin decided that he should check the level of oil in the diff, as it had leaked previously, and they had done some work on it. We enjoyed a short trip here in Solvang but it looked like all of the walking around finally did the trick...this would be our last stop as we were within a few hours of home and the boys were definitely worked out enough that they would eventually fall asleep in the car and not have any idea when we would pull into the driveway.
