Up early and out for the day with Bill and Clemente, we are picked up at 0700 on the nose and hit the road - after a quick stop at Starbucks - to head to Solvang. This small Danish town was settled in 1911 and has wonderful character. I will get to that in a minute.
En route we made a pit stop - not your usual pit stop - we detoured into the Chumash Casino for a break. Hey, it's a long drive. We set our clocks to meet back at a designated time and each ...

... so it was time to sleep. I was woken up when we were approaching San Francisco Apple head quarters at Cupertino. I was too sleepy to take any pictures but I did see the buildings.
We stopped at a Chinese buffet place and I told the tour guide that I needed to buy a travel adaptor to charge my I pad and I phone. She told me there was CVS near there and I could buy adaptor while others were having the buffet. But it was much further ...

We have learned that on Fridays we need to get to a campsite early to get one. They really start filling up for the week-end.

That put us close to the town of Solvang which we wanted to visit. Solvang was settled by Danish immigrants and ...

Ready for the beach, we headed north of LA to near Santa Barbara to enjoy the coastal drive and quiet nights getting ready to say goodbye to Bessie. Expensive camping on the coast ($45/night when we're used to $15-20). But 'splurged' with a $35 spot right on the beach for our last night in the van. Had a huge fire to burn all the paper that I'd been hoarding as fire starters. It was ...

... php It also has a bakery which is well known, so we stopped off for morning tea here. Coffee/chocolate milkshake and carrot cake went down a treat! See attached pics.

We then drove to Pismo Beach which wasn't too much further south. Pismo was a lovely large beach with a pier. We parked the car and walked along the pier, and got to see dolphins swimming close to the pier which was really cool! We then walked to the beach, paddled our feet ...
