This was our children's first big trip outside of Canada. We decided to go to Florida in November because it's not as crowded, weather is not too hot, not too cold and less expensive. We used aeroplan points to purchase our airline tickets and car rental. We booked our hotel through CAA, this saved us $100.00 US alone. Our three hour flight landed …
Well, here we are, back in the United States for almost 2 weeks now and enjoying every single minute of it. After spending a few days with Sebastien in Ft. Myers and catching up with him and his life, we ended up spending our Floridian time in Tampa and plopped our backpacks at our very good friends's house Keith and Diane who again generously welcomed us into ...
... Everglades - fantastic scenery. Fall colors with palm trees contrast to bad it was raining so hard no pictures. Definitely have to go back. Then we went through an area with panthers. Unbelievable road signs to watch for panthers crossing for several miles. Again in the pouring rain. Never saw signage like that before. No kidding for ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Alden Beach Resort & Suites Saint Pete Beach
Though most of the reviews about this hotel are excellent, I felt compelled to write and dispute the few bad comments that I did see.
My wife & I wanted a winter getaway in a warmer spot than NC in January. After reading the reviews on the Alden we selected it as our choice for a 5 day visit (1/8-1/13/04). The property is very clean and well maintained. The room was was well equipped with tv's in the bedroom and living room. Also. a refrigerator, small microwave stove, coffee pot etc. made the stay more enjoyable. Both pools and the 2 hot tubs seemed to be as clean as the rest of the property, although the hot tubs were both warmer than seemed necessary to really enjoy them.
Love the Alden-Would never stay anywhere else
We love the Alden. We go to Florida every year and we stay at the Alden every time. The hotel is clean and very well designed. We have three daughters and feel very safe staying there. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We have stayed at other hotels in Florida and have found nothing that compares. We highly recommend staying at the Alden. We love it!!
We had a wonderfrul vacation
My husband and I went to the Alden for our honeymoon. We had a fabulous time. The weather was fabulous, the property was everything the website displayed and the staff was wonderful. The beach was sandy white and the ocean was as beautiful as ever. The view from our room was spectacular and the room was very clean. We felt at home at the Alden as we made friends with the other guest staying there. We felt that it was one of the more attractive resorts in St. Pete. We will definetly return to the alden, and we will never forget the spectacular time we had on our honeymoon. If you are trying to decide whether or not the Alden is for you, it is you won't regret it!!!!!
I chose this hotel for a weekend getaway primarily based on the many excellent reviews posted on this site. This hotel is far from excellent. First of all, it is an older property (I would guess built in the 1970s) and is showing its age. The bathrooms are extremely small and the hotel just has an "old" feel to it overall, although I will give them credit for at least trying to keep things looking nice.
We spent four nights at the Alden in the Cayman Suite, with a gorgeous view of the ocean. The room was very nice and extremely clean. The beds were wonderful and we also enjoyed the balcony. My husband fed the seagulls everyday!
My husband, our two year-old and I stayed here and just loved it.
Top-floor view of the ocean was spectacular. Can't beat the convenient location - coffee shop, restaurants, souvenir shops - we had a very nice time. Covered parking is a real plus. We thought it was a terrific value.
Loved the Alden
My husband and I stayed at the Alden Beach Resort from 16 to 22 March 2003 in the Nassau Building and loved it! The rooms were very clean and tastefully decorated. We enjoyed being so close to the beach and the warm Gulf waters. The Alden offers two heated pools, jacuzzis, tennis courts, barbacue grills, shuffleboard, a playgroud for small children, washers and dryers, and an outside beach bar. It is a very family friendly resort. The staff was very pleasant and professional. This was my very first visit to Florida and the Alden, but not my last.
The Alden is an interesting place. The room handled a family of five and provided us a very nice space to rest. The beach bar is informal and not like the other bars on the strip. You will get to know people there. The pools are generally clean but you need to get your beach chair early. The laundry can also be backed up. There are/were grills you could use to barbecue with. The hot tub was scalding so no one was ever in it. The game room was sparse. The overall quality of the room was good and it saves money on eating. The staff was definitely friendly and outgoing/helpful.
I went on vacation with my boyfriend and his family. That meant two parents, two brothers, and two girlfriends. We stayed in a Suite with an ocean view. The suites are nice for families, although they could be bigger. There are sliding doors that close off the kitchen/living room area (with the sofa bed) from the dressing area, then another slider that separates the dressing area from the bedroom. This provides for adequate privacy. There are also laundry facilites that were helpful during a lengthy stay.
