      Another day, another port. The Dominican Republic is the eastern side of the island of Hispaniola. The western side is Haiti. We docked at a port called La Romana. There are a few different things you can do here. We chose to visit some caves call Cueva de las Miravillas (the cave of miracles). It was a great option because we got to see a bit of the countryside, we had a very good taxi driver who told us a bit about the island life ...

      ... It is lined with dozens of beer huts and outside bars, all competing with one other with loud music and beer. People line both sides of the street and the median, and basically hang out and drink and dance the night away. You can also get ice cream at the ice cream store, and if you feel so inclined, you can purchase a hot dog from one of the many travelling barbeques that are moving along the sidewalks...cooking while being pushed along.       ... the kitchen is not very attractive, it does serve the purpose, and is mostly functional. I have been promised a can of paint of my choice to replace the barf green colour...maybe next week!

      I was quite excited about the bathroom, as it had all matching shower curtain, garbage can, cups, etc, and most importantly - a HOT WATER HEATER!!! Yes, I am living a life of EXTREME priviledge...I have hot water!! Also, my bathroom ...

      ... plastic bag of school supplies! The schools were very small, as you can see, but the teachers have worked very hard to make the walls attractive and to do the best they can with what they've got. One of the Consuelo Rotarians is actually a teacher in one of these bateyes, so it was really nice for her to have her students receive these supplies.
