Ah, what a nice town

... then some big modern shopping centres. I walked the compulsory tourist trail in half a day, ate some nonya food (Malay-Chinese fusion cooking - good spring rolls), visited a couple of museums including the 'beauty museum', 'kite museum', 'melaka museum'... then got bored and ended up in the cinema. Also tried some Indonesian food in the evening with a German guy who'd just started his travels - pretty spicy food, but I look forward to getting to Indo even more now!

Our time in Melacca City

... br>
After this we went to the Maritime museum, the maritime museum had a high quality layout with a genuine reproduction of a Dutch Tudor cargo ship. We then headed to a view tower, the passengers are loaded and the bottom, and then taken up in a circuit to the top, and you view the city of Malacca.

As our feet were tiring we decided to get the classic and famous Malacca ricture, it has somehow developed in their culture to decorate their rictures incredibly ...

Missing the boat..?

First off I must apologise for the lack of interest/humour/knowledge in this entry. Melaka just didn't do a lot for me....

And second, as I'm sure you may have realised whilst reading my entries I cannot be ars*d to proof read, so I'm afraid you'll just have to pretend the tyrping errors are not there!

Oohh and I've just thought of a third, did you guess I'd made up the names of the 2 Germans in my last ...

Melaka: Dinner with the Japanese Prime Minister

... whole range of topics - from Malaysian politics (his view was that the domestic political system was over-dominated by Malays at the expense of the other Malaysian ethnic groups (Indian and Chinese) but that the ruling coalition party (who have been in power pretty much since independence in 1957) were slowly losing support and big changes may be afoot in the next general election) to his family and origins (his family are all very hardcore Christians (hence why he was ...

The value of friends you meet on the road.

... continued to chase after them but couldn't catch them. As I walked back it hit me that they had my purse with all my money and cards, my camera, my phone and my ipod!! I started to cry. By this time there were about 30 Chinese people, who had been at a ceremony in the temple next door out on the street as well as the guys who run the bar. They were all really nice to me, and two women sat me down and comforted me as others called the police. About 5 ...

Me not likey Melaka

... And what I loved was the Chinese cemeteries that were all on hills so as to be closer to God, and the design of the graves was the headstone surrounded by a circle type headstone/arch - which represented the person returning to the womb from where their life began. Really beautiful dotted all over some of the highest hills! We had a great Chinese lunch, were ostracised from the meat eaters with one other vegetarian British Indian girl and had a ...

One short trip

... the beach. I forgot whether it was Chun Seng or Ivan who found this empty wine bottle, soon Ivan donated his blank A4s for us to write down our wishes and stuff them into it, make it a wishing bottle which bound to nowhere in the Malaccan Straits. After visiting the lady who sells snacks, and had lunch at a local restaurant. We check out of the hotel and hurried to Melaka Sentral, where was coach that brought us back to Kuala Lumpur.

Little Amsterdam

... sightseeing with my backpack I finally found a place: the aptly named "Eastern Heritage Guesthouse". A bit run-down, a bit dingy, but cheap and with plenty of room in the dorm. Well, it would only be a one night affair so that wasn't a problem. As far as the sights go, Melaka's cheesy centre is dominated by some Portugese and (mainly) Dutch remains - all made up nicely for the weekend families (and ...

... part of the city. There are Chinese temples everywhere, from simple small shrines (chapelles) to large, ornate houses, and everything is so beautiful! The Malaysians are all trop gentils (nice), last night, hier soir, dans un bar, the owner was celebrating his birthday, and offered us each a piece of enorme gateau/cake! There's a funny custom here: the flowery ...
