Made it out of Bangkok and into Trat by late afternoon where we had booked to stay in a wonderful dark wood house in a neighborhood reminiscent of Old Siam and where the heat seemed even more intense. We ventured out to the night market after sunset to sample some local produce and drink the coldest beer we could find! ... we wanted to cook from a list of about 100dishes. I chose Thai Green curry, Sweet and sour chicken, Thai beef salad, noodle soup and Thai fish cakes. We started with the curry and had to make the paste in a pestle and mortar which is tiring for the arms (thank god for electric blenders) and then proceeded to cook each dish under instruction with lovely fresh ingredients. Up at the crack of dawn to pack last minute things.. Left my bulky travel books and a few t shirts as I'll be buying new in Pattaya. The books I now have on e books on Ipad.
