From Siquijor we wanted to head to Apo Island, a tiny dot of an island that we could see from the beach on Siquijor however getting there was not so straight forward. There is no direct boat so we had to get the early morning ferry from Siquijor to Dumaguete then a 30 minute tricycle ride to a tiny pier that the boats headed for Apo would leave from. It turned out that the pier isn't really even a pier, it was just a small hut next to the sea in the middle of ...

Apo Island Turtles Oh My!

... of around 1000. The main reason to visit is for the diving and snorkeling and while we were there we fell in to a peaceful rhythm of snorkeling, eating, reading, and very mild exploring of the land. Super easy place to relax. The island only has electricity from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm, and there are no motorized vehicles so it is very quiet. The main "road" is a cement sidewalk, and people move stuff around using handcarts. We saw a couple cows, pigs, ...

... one of the hotels that we had read about in our Lonely Planet book. It had spacious rooms and was very clean just as the book had described.. what it had not included was that this building used to be a hospital. We aren't 100% sure of this, but every corner we turned there was something new that reminded us of being in a hospital (not to mention the cabinet that was labelled 'utensil sterilizer’). We spent our evening doing a little ...

... and so well designed and built the beach did not matter. There was a small pool in front of the dive centre and main restaurant which was up on stilts overlooking the beautiful plot of land. Our room had a huge ceiling fan which, combined with 24 hour electricity and intensely comfortable beds, meant a really really nice sleep! There is very little to do in Dauin which was perfect for us as we didn't want to do anything for a few days! We chilled out by ...

... the only village on the island. The village is tiny and you can walk through from one side of the island to the other in about 10 minutes so that gives you the idea of scale. Our resort was situated on the West coast, so perfect for sunsets, and is set into the side of the hill which gives an excellent view across the water to mainland Negros, over which the sun sets creating a vivid red sky and a silhouette of the mountainous land mass. Our arrival was rather bizarre. We had booked ...
