I had my first experience surfing today! I took a surfing lesson with a couple friends and I was so surprised at how simple the technique is. I was able to get up a bunch of times. Now I just need to practice so I can surf some bigger waves. We just stuck with the baby waves today. ... off the legs but after a couple of minutes your arms are burning, especially with one person in a double. Then it was back on the bike to ride back to HQ, now this wasn't to bad for distance or gradient but the mud, every turn of the peddle was hard work. ... is in tribute to Steve, with big pictures, bronze statues and concrete flooring with his hand and feet prints in. It makes it all quite sad as you're reminded of his unfortunate death.
The first animals we saw was some huge tortoises. I still find it incredible how big they grow, how slowly they walk around and how long they live!
The zoo has a brilliant collection of animals but crocodiles were Steve's favourite so its no wonder so much emphasis is put ...
... was closed due to repairs. My highlight was probably sticking my head through a portal in a tank - only me and 5 year olds were doing it so looked pretty funny. Am including a picture.. We walked to Mooloolaba front and had a coffee. Nice when the sun's out but otherwise a bit cold sadly. We drove up the coast a bit to a place called Cotton Tree for a picnic lunch by the sea. Went for a walk - spotted some parakeets in the trees ...
... have even been bone dry. Some interesting/amusing ones which we have seen are:
- Ten mile creek
- Seven mile creek (not sure what happened to 9 and 8 mile creeks)
- Bob's Gully
- Wallaby Gully
- Christmas creek
- Roo river
- Jane creek and James creek - a few more and we'll have a creek for each member of the Comfort Family ;)
- My personal favourite, Gates creek (then graffiti-ed beneath it some genius had written "my gate ...
