... it was monday, and of course museums are closed. a major storm also came in and the scaffolding in front of a construction site that i had just walked past was now blown over and flapping in the wind. lucky me for narrowly escaping death!
for the most part, the old historic part of town was pretty dead as it is the end of tourist season, but i was able to check out the harbour, Hadrian's gate, and a few other sites.
After the bus ride from Konya to Anatalya of about 5 hours, we waited at the junction for a minibus to Olympos, where we were to stay in a tree house. The place is just a short walk from the Roman ruins, and the Med. So, here we are, on ...

Daca ...
... Inside it's just as impressive with its 144 foot by 193 foot open courtyard. Inside the courtyard is a cut stone square mosque. It's the oldest in Turkey. There are stairs to the mosque's second floor. Overhead is four carved barrel-vaulted arches. Mustafa takes us over to the arched camel stalls. He says that hundreds of camels could be stabled here at one time. Usually the camel's owners would be given a stall for their camels. The stalls would be locked and ...
Antalya, Turkey kupdegra... and finally to a major road leading to the city. From there we made our way to the Antalya museum, which didn't look that great from the outside, paid our money and entered. Looks were definitely deceiving - this is a large museum with an extensive and excellent collection, well set out and in the most part informatively labeled in English as well as Turkish. It shows finds from major sites in the area, dating as far back as Paleolithic, through Bronze Age and on. There are ...
Cirali, Turkey tandc2007... tell you you have beautiful eyes and ask you about your family. Much better than the Thai approach of grabbing at your limbs. Turkish people on the whole are exceptionally friendly and generous. It's impossible not to get invited for tea or be offered to be shown around. If you have a question or need something people will go out their way to help you. On more than a few occasions when I've needed to locate a hostel or internet cafe a local person has literally escorted me to the ...
Olympos and Antalya, Turkey laural... are. Nevertheless, the eating is very good. Believe it or not. Let me tell you about what I am eating these days. Let me start with my favourite drink here, Ayran. No, it's not Raki - an ouzo like liqueur. I've been avoiding the drink here. It slows me down in the mornings, if you know what I mean! There was that time in Kushadasi, for example... but that was Efes (local beer, taxed a whopping 85%). And then water, that would be Su, but I only drink that out ...
Antalya, Turkey fatduck... I admired and photographed and sketched. Bryan and I walked the marina--just about the only people awake it appeared "I just want my coffee and hard-boiled egg" :) We still needed to wait for 4 more passengers...but that day we pulled out of the harbor and motored to a quiet cove. The rock-top mountains in the distance looked like they had pink snow on top. We lounged in the sun on the open deck--warm and cooled by a gentle breeze. I sketched the island ...
