The hubby and I stayed here twice, the first for our honeymoon and the second two years later for our anniversary.

Our honeymoon was amazing. It was everything we hoped for. The room was beautiful and very comfy. The service and staff courteous and always available. We came back to our room each day and found new towel art. The housekeeping service was prompt and they did a good job.

The restaurant selection was amazing! We enjoyed each one, the French was my fav.

Wadding in the pool, drinking and playing games was a favourite pastime. We brought our own floaters and made sure we got lounger seats each day with no trouble.

It is located about 30 min from Cancun and 25 minutes from Playa Del Carmen. The cab fare was about 35 USD.

Day trip into playa for shopping and a ferry ride to Cozumel is highly recommended!

It is an amazing resort, you won't regret going!

I'm sure it will get better

We stayed here for New Years Eve week. Check in was good. We were told by the check in clerk that the hotel opened 30th Nov and would be completed by 15th February 2008. 100 of the 400 rooms were open. The place was like a ghost town, so no reservations required for restaurants and no problem getting a sun bed by the pool. Room was good, large double bed, whirlpool bath and large shower. Air conditioning was not working. As the week went on we got a table for the balcony and eventually a guest services directory.

2 of our party had requested single beds in room but on arrival were told that none of the rooms had singles so they had to share a double. We found that there were others with same predicament. Every morning there were a number of people making complaints.

Swimming pool was excellent, 200 metres long with a couple of bars. Beach bar was still under construction, all they had on offer here was a screwdriver and a rusty nail. Surf was running so high on the beach that it was impossible to use any of the 3 hobie bravos available. Make sure you take shoes suitable for use in the water due to rocks and stones.

Restaurants: They claim to have a number of restaurants but I think they use the beach restaurant on alternate nights for either fish or steak. The fish restaurant was excellent. Japanese restaurant was excellent although not sure if chicken curry and satay are truly Japanese? In the French restaurant we had the worst chateaubriand imaginable, it was a lump of meat which had the texture of reconstituted meat, it had a high salt and water content and after one bite we left. We passed our views onto the restaurant manager who said it was the first time they had served it. Italian was excellent, Mexican was reasonable. Service excellent in all of them. All restaurants are minimalistic and have no ambience.

Nightlife: Don't come here for nightlife. There is only really one place to congregate in the evening and that is the sports bar, Samuel and his team will certainly look after you here but again there is no ambience. It is just a room with approx 8 TV's strung around the walls and a couple of pool tables. We had to watch the concert for Dianna at Wembley stadium every night as this was practically all they had to offer. Strangely there were no sports on TV.

They have 2 of the tennis courts open but there is still a lot of construction going on in this area.

We had problems changing money. The hotel does have a cash machine but it is still in its plastic wrapping and waiting to be installed. There are also numerous light fittings to be installed all over the hotel noticeable by the number of wires hanging everywhere. This is probably why all the outside activities stop once dusk approaches.

Nearly forgot to mention that there is no spa yet just a couple of girls who will give you a massage in a chair.

Overall I would say don't come here until it's finished unless you're a honeymoon type couple and only if get a really good deal. I would advise going to a more established resort.

          Incroyable expérience au paradis

English people, do not hesitate to ask.

          Still working out the kinks

Just got back this afternoon. I would agree 90% with the other reviews. Food is fantastic (especially the French and Japanese), beach, pool, and buildings are gorgeous, but there are definitely still some issues.

My husband and I were put in a double room, and when we asked to be moved to a King, the room had a broken air conditioner and a leak in the bathroom. They very apologetically moved us to another King, where there was no hot water (they told us this was a problem with our half of the building, and should be fixed in 10 minutes). Several hours later, we complained again and they said it would be fixed "by Wednesday" (this was Monday). They said they would move us the next morning before we had to shower to an upgraded double room to compensate for the inconvenience. The bellboy didn't come as promised the next day, and it took us an hour and a half of calling every twenty minutes to get someone to come with a new room key. Upgraded room was nice, but I wouldn't suggest paying the extra, unless you absolutely need two sinks. They told us that as soon as a King became available, we would be moved again. This never happened, and whenever we asked, they said there were none available. We met another couple by the pool who wanted to move from their King to a Double, and were told there were no Doubles available. Communication issues???

In the upgraded room, we found that the couch was broken (one arm completely detached - you fell over if you leaned on it - see picture), as was the alarm clock, side table (marble top glued on at ridiculous angle - see picture), and dvd player. Water pressure and temperature was a bit sketchy as well. We got the alarm fixed, but at that point were tired of complaining about stuff. We were the first people in all the rooms we stayed in, and I know stuff gets damaged during moving, but come on. Everyone is very sympathetic and helpful sounding, but it takes multiple phone calls to get anything done. The bellboy didn't show up to take our bags for checkout either.

There were also power outages - resort wide - one day. Not a huge deal when you are on the beach, but makes it hard to serve yourself at the buffet.

Don't get me wrong, we had a great time, but if we had all these issues and trouble resolving them when the place is at half capacity, what will it be like by the time it fills up?

          Amazing resort

We just returned from the Valentin Maya resort in the Mayan Riveria and all I can say is that it was the most amazing place we have experienced. We have travelled extensively and stayed in many great resorts around the world but this hotel is exceptionaly and is truly a 4 Diamond hotel.

The rooms are all suites and beautilful with a jacuzzi in the middle of the room, shower stall larger enough for 8 people shower at once, two flat screen tvs in our room and a large king and very comfortable bed.

The staff is so friendly and goes out of their way to make sure everything is great. The activities staff are so great they really get you involved with activities which are going on all the time.

The main pool is massive and has two swim up bars where the drinks are always available or you can have one of the waitresses bring you one to your lounger (great service). The waitresses also walk around at times with plates of food for you to try, never seen this before. There are two huge whirlpools in the main pool. The pools are also salt water. The beach is beautiful but a very rock when going to the ocean, they are fixing this but it will take some time., otherwise its awesome

Food, a gastronomic experience. gourment dining at its best. 7 a la cart restuarants without reservations. Lobster was amazing and plentiful, steak great, french awesome, italian wonderful, asain, mexican and all others great. oh and the buffet was great. Oh and get one of the KOBE beef burgers at the beach restuarant its awesome. What more can I say about the food best we ever had in any resort.

Liquor is premium with the best you can get and as much as you want including wine with all meal by the bottle.

Get if while its new and before the price doubles as it will be the best resort in Mexico but at the moment the hidden treasure

A couple of things are not finished yet but who cares

Valentin Maya, book it with no worries.

          LOVED IT!!!!! A Couples Oasis!

We stayed at this hotel from December 21- 28th and it was fabulous!!! This place is very romantic! Quiet! You are so free, no reservations for dinner, no towel cards, no bracelets. They are still putting some final touches in place as some room are getting furniture added, etc, but that was on the other side of the resort. The resort is pretty spread out so if walking is an issue you may need a wheelchair. They do have pedal bikes as well.

Rooms: Beautiful, modern decor, we had a hot tub on the deck, fridge with drinks, TV, phone, two sinks, great large shower, large patio and bath robes. Turn down service every night with a letter of the next day's activities. Maid service was timely and very they never missed a thing.

Food: Exceptional... the sit down a la carte service will make you feel like royalty. The waiters are all well trained and very eager to please. There are no tip jars nor do they ask or wait around. We did tip and they really appreciated it. The food presentation is beautiful. You get many courses. We ate at all the a la cartes with the exception of the Mexican. The Lobster Pot (only every second night- open) as it was at the beach restaurant, le mar, we had to read the menu by flashlight, nice ambiance. We only ate at the buffet for lunch twice as we ate at le mar as they had continental breakfast everyday. Pool menu was available and the waitresses will bring you snacks. There is no food service right on the beach yet. Room service is an option 24 hours and to have breakfast on the patio was great, the waiters brought a rose for me as well. Nice touches.

If you don't like something on the menu they will make you something special... FOOD is A+.

          Pool and Beach:

Pool is great, big and clean. You can be served drinks there all day long. Fresh towels are laid on the chairs and you can get a dry one when you need it. They have loungers in the pool and two pool bars. The beach is a little rocky but if you walk forty feet to your left you can swim in a sandy area. The beach was windy and had high surf. Swimming was fun in the sandy area. You can also walk the beach but better to the left as if you go to the right it is very rocky so take some shoes. They have volleyball set up there and staff all day long to serve you drinks on the beach as well. There are no bathrooms on the beach so you have to walk up the beach side restaurant. Not sure if they will add any.

          Activities and Nightly Entertainment:

If you are looking to party, this is NOT the place for you... at all. They had some fun things in the evening like a casino night with play money and a carnival night but they had the same band all week and dancers. It was more geared to an older crowd so we skipped the shows after two nights. There is no disco but the sports bar is open until 2:00 a.m. and you can play pool and they have some table games. The day activities include salsa dancing, volleyball, yoga and water aerobics. They also had some water polo and they have a pool table and ping pong table.

Overall resort is amazing. The building is beautiful. It is so big you can be alone anywhere. Very quiet and romantic. They do have shuttle into playa each day you must reserve this. No pay phones yet so long distance was $5.00 a minute, they do have internet for free in the lobby.

If you want romance this is a great place. It is a couple's oasis, if you wish to reconnect; this is the place for you.

          What a beautifull place!

Hello every one, i understand most of you want to have information on the valentin hotel, me and my wife just finished a 2 weeks trip there, fisrt note that it is located betwen the mayan palace and the el dorado hotel on the beach of playa del secreto,

about 25 minutes from playa del carmen, is it finished, YES, at 100 % NO, functionnal abselutely, personal will treat you like kings and queens, food is very good, drinks are very good, pool is huge and clean, the beach is so so but you have to understand that it is a wild beach, if you are a shell collector you will go nuts carrying an arm load of huhe conq shells, when the wind is down you can access the ocean if windy stay by the pool, hotel is very clean and beautifull, landscape has to grow and is being finished and is worked at full speed, rooms are well decorated and you can? experience some minor problems because the rooms are bran new, however, they will fix it in a flash when reported, we had great time and this will be one of my best vacations, you can tell them DON INDIO sent you i have my own name in the bar at surf and turf restaurant! thank you!

Valentin Imperial Maya is opened and beautiful!

I was lucky enough to be at the Valentin Imperial Maya the week end the hotel opened and even if some little finishing touches were missing; my overall impression was WOW!

The setting is beautiful, the service outstanding and the gastronomic experience fabulous. The hotel is spacious so there is enough space to have intimacy yet it isn't too big so the it doesn't feel unpersonal.

I would recommend it to anyone of my friends and family.

WOW... Best value in Riviera Maya for the Price!

Where to start... We got there just after the official opening (Nov 30th). The staff (most of them are from the other 5 stars resorts in the area are just pampering us like kings! The look of the resort is just fantastic, the gardens are allready green. FOOD is heavenly and the choice of restaurants (no reservation required) is so impresive that it becaumes a problem to choose! And what to say about the pools, they are huge freeform, with jacuzzi's and pool bar's... For the price we paid... We are planning to go back in April...
