... thunder abated. We fought on through the rain and wind, safely negotiated Cape Creek tunnel and had some great views of the Heceta Head lighthouse. At the Sea Lion Cave (obviously the biggest sea cave in the world) it was touch and go as to whether we could continue - at times the wind was so fierce it felt like we would be blown off and we had to walk our bikes for quite a way. ...

As we traveled this familiar territory, Harlan and I reminisced about our years here in Oregon, including the fun times at the beach remembering how cold and windy it is even in summer, the mist that falls most of the time and ...

... that night after all that fresh ocean air. Once we realized we have been hiking pretty much every day of our trip so far, we decided it was time to give our hiking boots a rest and strap on the sand boards to experience the dunes out behind our campground. It is amazing how you literally step out of these old growth rainforests right into the dunes that are made of this beautiful fine sand of sweeping hills for miles and miles! So we packed the backpack ...
