We had a great time!
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Breezes the week of Feb. 16. I'll admit when we got there we were a little bit worried because we thought that are room was really far away from things ( we were in building 10), but it turned out to be just fine. Our room was quite large and was always clean, I'll admit one day they forgot to put towels in the bathroom, but when I went to find the cleaning lady she was right outside my room, so no big deal. i thought that the food was great, I have never been to a resort that has donuts at breakfast! My boyfriend really enjoyed the steak and lobster dinner. The beach was gorgeous, and the ocean was so warm, even sitting by the pool was nice, there were always people to get you drinks. Overall we had a great time, I think when the renovations are finished the place will be fabulous!
I too was suspect of this resort after reading the reviews.......I could see very little wrong with this resort....The employees were excellent, except for the bitch in the little store. Food was good, Restuarants were good......Place was spic and span clean....Just watch the casino........they are kind of devious people down there.
I don't agree with the negative comments
I don't agree with the negative reviews posted at this site. I just returned from the SuperClubs Breezes resort on March 16th and I absolutely loved my stay. To clarify things, we were not asked for a deposit for the remote control, we always had clean towels and there are four à la carte restaurants plus a buffet restaurant. The food was excellent at all restaurants (I thought the Japanese was the best!). The reason you were allowed one reservation at each of the à la carte restaurants was so that everyone would be able to enjoy them. Reservations were not difficult at all, we did them upon arrival at the resort and there was no waiting time. The pool area was beautiful as was the beach. We never had a hard time getting chairs or towels. My only complaint is that the ocean is rough at this beach because it is not in a sheltered bay, but we had enourmous fun jumping in the big waves. During our stay we did two tours, a half day in Puerto Plata sight seeing and a full day on a catamarang snorkeling. If you only do one tour, I recommend the catamarang or the safari (I only heard good things about the safari tour). I would definitely return to this resort.
Here are some comments on Breezes Puerto Plata Beach & Spa Resort by SuperClubs. First, there isnt a Spa, the beach was dirty and you could not get a chair. There were only three ala Carte restaurants. We were told when arriving that we could only eat at each one once. Reservations were difficult and time consuming to obtain. I had to wait 45 minutes on one occasion for reservations. The buffet was not good. Everything tasted the same. The rooms were clean, but the replacement of towels was very inconsistent -- you never knew what towels you were going to end up with after they changed the room, if they remembered to change the towels. The rooms were dark and they did not have a clock in them. The beds were extremely uncomfortable. We ended up taking the comforter and blanket and putting them under the bottom sheet for some amount of cushion. One morning we had no water in the rooms. Many other times there was only cold water available. On the whole the staff seemed unorganized although they were generally very friendly. The pool had been redone and was nice, however they were putting stain around the pool everyday we were there. This resort was to reopen in the first part of January. It is not completed and had a lot of things under construction. This is not what we paid for. We were under the assumption that this was a 4 star resort but it was not. To get a remote for your TV you had to put down a deposit. We sent $2000 on a trip and they were worried we were going to take the remote. They have not updated their web site and I believe it is because they dont want you to see that the resort is not completed and is just barely a 2 star resort. In summary, I would not recommend this place to anyone. There are more things I could go into but I think you get the idea about the place.
February 19 - 26th
A week before we were leaving to go the this resort, I came across this website and read the reviews from others who had visited the resort only weeks earlier. I have to say that I was worried after reading some of the negitive reviews. However, once I got there I was very pleasantly surprised at how wonderful this resort was. A lot of people were complaining about the fact that there was so much renovations going on, but while we were there we hardly saw any of this. I guess they were pretty much nearing completion. There were a few things like new spare blankets, CD players and things like that which were delivered to the rooms while we were there. We stayed in a villa by the beach, and it was beautiful. There were no ants or anything like that. The rooms were very clean. We didn't have any problems with hot water at all. The pool was really neat, and again nothing like the pictures on the net or brochures, much, much nicer now! The food was excellent as well. The buffets were quite elaborate and there was lots of things to chose from. My only complaint there was that the shellfish (lobster, jumbo shrimps) tended to be over cooked. But that is my only complaint. The specialty resturants were amazing and a great addition to the experience. It was like a night out. The Italian was very good and I strongly recommend the pizza. The Mexican was ok. But the French and Japanese resturants were amazing!!! There were four of us who ate together at the French, we all tried different things and we all loved what we had. The main dish at the Italian is the same for everyone with sort of a bit of everything for you to try and that was all excellent. You chose your appetizer though and I had the soup which was delicious! The service in all of these restuarants was excellent. Speaking of service, everyone at the resort was very nice and very eager to do everything in their power to make your stay the best possible. Obveoursly not everyone was perfectly bilingual, but they certainly did a good job in knowing enough english, french and german to help you out. Some of the staff were completely bilingual in all 4 languages (including spanish of course). We had excellent weather the entire time we were there with rain only on one night and 2 five minute showers which were actually refreshing. It was sunny and quite warm the entire time, and there was always a nice breeze coming off the ocean to make the heat even more enjoyable. Oh, and there were lots of towels. I had read many reviews saying they were running out of towels, but they must have stocked up because we were getting new towels 2 and 3 times a day when ours got wet. The nightly entertainment was great! There were a group of dancers who put off a different show every night and they were very very talented, and at times quite funny. Daytime there was always some activity going on and the animation team who organized these activities were quite amusing to say the least. "Looky, looky!" Ha ha... anyone who was there would have heard that a few times! My only complaint about the entire week is directed towards some of the other guest we encountered (just a couple) who were very rude, arrogant and ignorant. But unfortunately there really isn't anything Breezes can do about that. The market in Sasua was very nice. It is set up along a beautiful beach. Great place to buy things like paintings and statues. Would we go back??? YOU BET!! We are already planning it for next year!! I wouldn't go anywhere else.
Better every day
We were there February 18th thru the 26th. Things seemed to run more smoothly with each passing day and we saw tons of equipment of various description being delivered. Construction was ongoing, but quite behind the scenes. If you keep in mind that you have not just checked into the Plaza and consider the amount you have paid, you should be delighted. The buffet food was adequate, the specialty restaurants were very good and there was no wait for beverages anywhere. It was full the first several days we were there and the property seemed quite able to absorb everyone. Always were able to get towels and lounges either at the pool or at the beach, no wait for a table at any meals. For some reason we were able to get dinner reservations at reasonable times at all four restaurants with no trouble. There were 5 in our party and everyone was able to participate in all desired activities when they wanted-- scuba, trapeze, golf, boogie boards, etc. except for one day when all the boards and fins were out. People mention how rough the water is however if you have had any experience with the ocean, it shouldn't faze you. Do be respectful of the local reefs and strong currents...There are organized activities all day long and something different to do each night. Any difficulties we experienced were the result of the language barrier and were thus OUR fault, not theirs. The Front Desk staff people were not overly accomodating, but EVERYONE else seemed anxious to please. As a matter of fact, with the no tipping policy, I found it mysterious they were as pampering and helpful as they were! No problems with bugs at all other than flies on the beach and hovering around dining areas--the same as it would be in your own backyard. There is nothing on either side of the resort for a long way and the area is stunningly gorgeous. Cabarete and Sosua are not to be missed. All in all, a terrific experience and an excellent value.
Not as bad as the others think!
If you do your research on a resort before you go, you will see that SuperClubs indicates that this Breezes facility is still under some construction. We went in with no expectations and were pleasantly surprised! The staff was very helpful but as they are all relatively new to Breezes (just opened in January) there are still some language issues. The construction is there but unobtrusive as far as I was concerned, it certainly did not inconvenience me in any way at all. We had a villa overlooking the courtyard and found that it was very clean! The bathroom, and bedroom area were always clean, sand free, after our many trips to the beach, and well lit. Our only complaint was no hot water at all in the week we were there. The entertainment was cute! You can tell that they are very new at this and while they are very talented singers and dancers, they are not 100% comfortable with their routines yet.We found the food to be very good, given the fact that it's a buffet arrangement! Some dishes were just warm not hot but it's a buffet for 100's! The specialty restaurants were all great with the Italian restaurant being the lesser of the 3. The French restaurant was by far the best and the Japanese restaurant, which opened the day we had reservations, was also very good. Our favourite though was the beach bar which served food 24 hours. The atmosphere was the most relaxed there with pleasant music and the waves coming in, very nice!! Would we go back? Yes! Will we be able to? I think in two years when everything is in place and operating a peak effiency, we won't be able to afford to as this will be a truly Super all-inclusive resort!
Loved it and would definetely go back
My husband and I and 2 friends stayed at Super Club Breezes in January. Although there is construction going on we have nothing but good comments regarding the food which was excellent, the staff which were warm and friendly the entertainment which was very good. Our room was adequate but very clean. Lots of towels, hot water and NO ANTS. We are looking forward to going back next year. Hopefully the grounds will be landscaped by then but that would not stop us from returning. We have been travelling for a number of years to different destinations and have been to all inclusives before and this was the best one by far.
Not a 4 star
This Hotel is not a 4 star. I just returned from a week at the breezes and I hated it. The food is terrible. The hotel is old and the rooms are in need of some major work. There was brown water that came out of the taps when you first ran the water. Ants were everywhere even in the beds. The beds were uncomfortable. The maids would replace the towels but you wouldn't always get the same amount you had before and you were luck if you got towels. They would run out of pool towels by 11 am and nothing opened until 9 am. They are still doing construction and will be for a long time. The staff wasn't very helpful. I heard a lot of complants from other people there. If you want to go to the DR go to the RIU resorts there. They are excellent.
Hopefully it will get better.....
I just returned from 1 week at the new Breezes Super Club in Puerto Plata. (Jan.19/26/03. This property has just been taken over by Breezes and needs a lot of work before it can truly be called a Breezes property. Rooms were poorly lit, could not read, pillows were like cotton balls, no blankets on beds, just sheet and spread, towels were very small and problems with NO hot water on some days. We experienced torrential rain the entire week and had leaks from the bathroom ceiling as well as our outside porch which we could never use because it was always wet. No remote with TV, coffee maker arrived 1 day before our departure. Specialty restaurants were excellent but you had to make reservations the day you arrive in order to get a reservation as they book up quickly. No signage anywhere on the property as to name of restaurants, bars, hours of operation, etc. Evening entertainment was very impressive and activity staff excellent. Lobby is not inviting and still in a major construction phase. Luggage service was excellent. Drinks were strong but they do not know how to make FROZEN drinks. Buffets were adequate, food lukewarm. Grounds need work, paths poorly lit at night, gardens sparce. Beach is small, no umbrellas or huts for shade. Pool is huge, but very deep and cold. Difficulty getting in and out as there are only 3 sets of stairs in entire pool. For the size there should be many more. Would I return. I don't think so........as at the present time I do not believe it lives up to a Breezes Superclub standard.

Day 9- I keep having dreams about Angeli. I also can't help myself from waking up at 6:30 every morning even though we are allowed to sleep in much later. Today, we woke up and then headed over to Cabarete and the lazy dog cafe! Yay wifi! I talked to my friends and family and enjoyed the indoors for a bit. I went out on the sunny beach for just an hour before we all ate pizza for lunch! I've missed pizza so much, so I was extremely excited ...
... potentially die. And this isn't even an exaggeration! It wasn't also just because I was out of shape! Every single person besides the mentors (who completely downplayed this day to a little walk in the woods) was on the verge of death. I even took off my shirt so I was only in a sports bra. I'm not really the type of person to wear minimal clothing like that around people, but it was actually that hot. When we finally made it to the top and I collapsed on ...
... back to home base for some pool time and dinner. We had chicken, rice, beans, fruits and veggies. Basically everything I was expecting for the whole trip all in one meal. After dinner we did some ice breaker games and just hang out some more. I'm now sitting in my mosquito net covered bed with my roommates: Claire, Olivia and Katya, all from Northern California, and Adele from Massachusetts. I really wish I had wifi so I could post this. ... to Luperon, where we agreed to buy the dinghy at $700 (price new over $5000) in the evening Wendy’s was shut so we moved up the high street and had a few drinks in a local bar. The same price as Wendys without the atmosphere, On the way back we met another English couple peter and bridget and told them about the falls and they plan to do them tomorrow with another boat crew.
