Stuck in the mud

Lovely resort. Nice room. The best part was the Oceanview from my balcony. We did an excursion to Saona Island. There were starfish in the water at a shallow area where we stopped. The ride in was on a speedboat, the return was on a Catamaran. I had a very restless night's sleep the previous night so I mostly relaxed, even falling asleep on my …

A Day at the beach

... for the most part we had a nice chat. Plus their accents are very different! I spent the whole day on the beach, swimming and snoozing in the shade. I had a late lunch of seafood and pasta. And for dinner went to a local place and had empanadas and yucca chips. Then went back to the hotel to chill out and pack ready for going to Santo Domingo tomorrow ...

... of dancing again creating a great atmosphere. Ama and 3 of her friends went on to another gagá in a batey, whilst her other 2 friends stayed in Guaymate at the charity. We chatted all evening about different things, mainly about what Chile is like and Dominican Republic. It was really nice to chat to them, and felt my Spanish had improved. Went to bed early as we plan to go to Bayahibe tomorrow to reunite with Ama and the rest of the ...

...No. of Dominicans left to convert: Only about 10 million or so .
Today a previous volunteer came to visit from Chile. She is now living in Santo Domingo and before I came here she helped me with advice about volunteering, so it was nice to meet her in person. She also gave me further warning about the weather, apparently in May it absolutely chucks it down and in June and July it gets ...

Bayahibe Beach

... bit of interest could be taken as you must be extremely interested and want to keep talking. Anyway, this is something that I will have to get used unfortunately. That said, I have never felt unsafe here, the guys just talk to you and if you are uninterested they soon leave you alone.

Today I went to Bayahibe beach by myself. It was even better than Caleta beach last weekend. More tourists but the sand is whiter and a bit cleaner. I managed to find a ...

What a beautiful place. food was fabulous, but the al la carte dinners are not that great, time comsuming and the food is just okay. It is all presentation. I would rather the buffet myself. We enjoyed the buffet, especially the prawns. huge ones, and the rest of the food was perfect.

Hotel parfait mais attention a la mer !!!!

    from

    Amazing

We just got back a few weeks ago from our Honeymoon at Bahia Principe. I really wasn't impressed with the airline that we took. Air Transit out of MOntreal. They were very rude and they didn't even have english cards to fill out .. only french and spanish.

As promised here is a review of our stay at the Gran Bahia Principe La Romana.

Gran Bahia Principe -- Nice Digs!

    from

I wound up at this resort by "default" for only one night just 7 days ago and found it to be quite nice and the staff to be very accomodating. I was on a trip to the Dominican Republic and when I arrived at my designated resort I was told that my room was unavailable due to construction ... so they sent me to this resort for one night. I was very crabby when I arrived after travelling for 26 hours because I just wanted to be in "my resort" and I WAS only here for one night .. but here is what I thought.

    Gran Bahia Principe La Romana

    from

We have never been to the Dominican and were a little nervous but our fears were soon put to rest. Everything was well organized by Sunwing Vacations and Zoom Airlines was great. The Gran Bahia is well organized and well run. The resort was apparently just renovated and had only been opened for 3 weeks. We arrived on Nov 23/07 and I have to say all the people at the resort are there to please you. They will do anything to make you happy. Check in/out was seamless and very quick. They have activities throughout the day as the resort is secluded and you are pretty much locked in unless you take a tour. The staff really work hard to make sure your stay is very pleasant. They had activities for every age from Spanish lessons, to Bingo Bongo, Beach Volleyball, Dancing lessons and the evening shows were fabulous. We did not recieve any bad service whatsoever. I am not a buffet person and would rate the food o.k. however you could get fresh made omlettes to order at breakfast and at lunch and dinner your meat or fish cooked right in front of you to your perfection. One thing to mention, to go to the a la carte restaurants you have to dress for dinner. No t-shirts or shorts. Men must wear slacks and a collared shirt. The buffet at dinner the men must wear slacks, no shorts for either of the sexes. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. We were disappointed on the La Romana shopping tour and would not recommend that as they take you to high price outlets and then the Jumbo market which is like a Walmart. The Saona Island tour was fantastic and is a must see. We will miss the people we met at the resort and will definetly go back. If you go, say Hi to Daniel the activites co-ordinator from Christopher and Janet from Vancouver, B.C.

Overall very satisfied, good four star plus quality

    from

We have just returned from a week at this hotel. We stayed from 19NOV07 to 26NOV07 and were booked in the Royal Golden Principe category, which could be compared to an executive floor. As far as we understood, the resort had just been reopened after a change of ownership and excessive refurbishment. We booked this hotel since we knew the Bahia Principe chain and their generally good reputation.

    One more trail

    from

well i guess the best thing to do is start at the beginning, flew out of montreal with air transat, not the best flight, a bit short of leg room, but only a 4 hr flight, so no biggy really, got to la ramana airport, no hassle at all, everyone was helpful, got the bus, ( if one of the bellboys get your case they expect a tip, not fond of this, but oh well live and learn) the bus trip took about 40 mins, max. the roads while not the smoothest i have been on were pretty good, no real wheel jerking potholes, we turned into the property and went through the main gate, drove about a mile to second gate and around a corner.............we could not belive our eyes, the place is awesome, spotless, gleaming, beautiful. we got out of the bus, and our luggage was unloaded, there was dancers and music and ofcourse a drink or two, lol, one of the other guests picked up one of our groups bags by mistake, the bell boy sorted that out for us within 10 mins, we got our room numbers and map and bracelet on the bus as we were traveling, so we were all ready to go. we walked through the beautiful entranceway and down a couple of steps and out into the gardens and walkways to the suits, the rooms were so easy to find and to get too, we opened the door and slipped one of the door cards into the slot on the wall and the lights of the room came on and we were thunder struck it was so clean, large, bright, we just looked at each other and could hardly say a thing, never have we had so much for so very little,
