He also made a triangular borek by taking a narrow strip of phyllo and folding it into triangles, first right then left and so on until all the strip was used up, saving a little tail to dip into water to seal it. It was fun, and on the way out he gave us roses from his garden in the village where he lives.

Now we are home and I have to admit slightly celebrating the return of my passport. Annie is on her second Raki and this Turkish red can come home with me... Now I have a passport we can have a quiet day on the beach tomorrow.

To get there we went through the hamlet of Çirali full of pensions and bungalows for those wanting a beach vacation. You can also walk to Olympos from there. The Chimaera or Yanartaş which means "Burning Rock" in Turkish is a cluster of flames that burn spontaneously on Mt. Olympos. ...

... so seeing what it was exactly like is tricky and maybe the pictures show this.

The city is set at the top of a couple of mountain passes and was apparently a tough fortress since Alexander the Great gave up besieging the place in 333BC and moved on. Certainly the massive walls were impressive but I couldn't understand why the buildings were built of such huge blocks. I could imagine the city ...

A couple of lazy days and really enjoying staying our little apartment. The area is mostly residential but lots of little shops, cafes and fast food joints; we think the Turks eat out a lot.
