Today we head to Playa del Carmen, the next city 1 hour 20 mins down the coast from Cancun. As usual we are up packed and ready to leave by the 12 midday check out time. ... br> The beaches are clean. The sand is fine and pretty and looks relatively similar to New York's, although a prettier color and perhaps even a bit more fine than NY, although not as sticky.

But it's the amazing push for cash that seems exploitative. It's not cheap — at all. The local surf shop (even though there's not even a ripple of surf) has prices higher than Hanalei, peso or not.
