We woke up, ate breakfast, and headed to Puerto Vallarta to do some shopping. We walked a bunch of streets, spent the whole afternoon there. Pretty sure I'm a little burnt haha. But I got some cool stuff. Then mom and I went down to the beach to do some boogie boards, but the place was closed. So I ended up in our room relaxing with a book. Now I'm …
We went to supper at Flamingo's (the steak house here at the resort). It was AMAZING. We had a table right on the ocean, and the food was great. Then we drove into Puerto Vallarta and took a walk down the Malecon, which is a boardwalk along the beach in Puerto Vallarta. It was BEAUTIFUL. There were amazing sand sculptures---I hope to get some …
Today was tons of fun! We ate breakfast (which was actually very good!) then we headed to the beach. After laying out for a little bit, we got boogie boards and rode the waves. It was so much fun!! We did that for awhile, then layed by the pool, ate lunch, and then I needed a break from the sun. So I relaxed in the lobby and in our room before getting ready for supper.
We started out about 11:30 this morning for the Riu Vallarta hotel. We had to drive through the mountains...and yes i me THROUGH, not around. There were lots of turns...it was very pretty, but it will definately turn your stomach. But we made it, with few mishaps haha. The hotel is AMAZING. It has no windows or doors (except for the rooms of course …
We stayed at a campground right off the beach in Sayulita Mexico. It was a beautiful site, except for the biker rally on the beach beside us. They were fine actually and the band wasn't bad to listen to. The roar of their bikes was a tad annoying.
Sayulita is a nice little town, with lots of tourism in the high season.
We wondered around, had supper on the street at a ...

Myself, my wife and another couple just returned from the Riu Vallarta after a week from Dec. 1-8th. I'll do my best to provide an honest review here and I do have to say that I'm neither the hardest or easiest person to impress.
We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Riu Vallarta. We were very pleased again with the riu family of hotels. Great rooms, beautiful beach, awesome weather, perfect location, great service, excellent staff.
We arrived at the Riu Vallarta two days after Thanksgiving for a short 3 night visit. The resort just opened on November 18th and it appeared that all of the facilities were operating. We were served a welcome cocktail in the lobby upon arrival and given our envelope with room key, towel key, etc. We were in our room right after our arrival at the resort. No delays here. The room key was actually a key rather than a card, which was a disappointment to us, as the key tag had the room number on it as well - making it too easy for anyone to enter the room if the key was lost or taken from a beach chair. There is a mini bar in the room stocked with beer, soft drinks and water and a safe in the closet, which is accessible again with a KEY rather than a combination. We received a junior suite poolside, which was a very nice clean room. The bathroom was equipped with amenities such as shampoo, shower cap, hand lotion. We did have a problem with maid service, however. On our second day I had to call the front desk twice to get our room made up. At 3:30 p.m., we still had no service so my husband went down to the front desk and they sent someone up right away. We always tip and leave little gifts for our maid too, so the lack of service surprised me.
Brand New - Great Fun
The hotel opened on Nov 17 ... we went there Thanksgiving Day and we stayed for a week.
Facilities were very nice and it helps that everything was spanking new ... food/animation/sport is what you expect from your all inclusive .. .all good but don't think of a "real" five star hotel.
All things considered we had a great time only complaint was that sometimes the music from animation/entertainment was getting a little too loud but they were getting it under control by the time we left.
This hotel is 2 doors down from the other Riu (Jalisco or something) and is it run pretty much the same way (same food etc) so if you read reviews for the other Riu you can have an idea ... just consider that this one is newer.
Well, I just came back from 7 days at hotel. I DO NOT WANT TO GO TO THE RUI. There theme song fits well at this hotel from hell.
We were not expecting the extent of the construction noise. They are still building 2 elevator shafts. We feel they opened too soon to properly serve guests. Make sure your room is far away from these 2 locations. They are also doing gardening work in the middle of the night. Too noisy for a restful vacation. Food at their Sir George's restaurant is great. It is worth booking a dinner there. The Asian restaurant is so-so.
Just some picture of the ongoing construction
