Went in Feb. It very clean and the service was excellent. Every one was friendly and went out of their way to make you enjoy yourself. The food was out of this world, everything you could think of and displayed beautifuly. our room was very clean and we wanted for nothing. We went with another couple and they agree with us one of the nicest places to go.
Had an excellent holiday at the Riu Merengue in May of 2000. We are going back to the Riu Merengue in September 2002. We had a fabulous time, Excellent food,Great entertainment, Fabulous weather. The hotel is the best we have stayed in and this is our 5th time to the Dominican Republic. If you want a luxurious and relaxing holiday go to the Riu Merenge.
RIU MERENGUE EXCELLENTE!!
I visited the hotel in July this year and had one of the best holidays I have ever been on...
The staff were excellent and entertained both me and my family for the two weeks of our holiday.
The food was very varied and was of a very good standard. Iam used to good food and this was of as high a standard as I am used to.
There was always something to do in the resort between the 3 hotels and there was always something new happening by the pool most days.
I could not fault the hotel in any way and again congratulations to the staff and management for running a wonerful hotel.
RIU MERENGUE EXCELLENTE!!!!!!
I just returned from a week at the Riu Merengue and wanted to offer my opinion of the resort. The service was decent in itself but the resort is only 5 star relative to what else is there in the Dominican Republic and not to other standards. Warning: IT IS NOT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE. If you are looking for a fun place with lots of activities, go elsewhere. The Riu complex is good for relaxing but not much else. The staff was helpful but the men were aggressive/perverted and it got a little irritating after a while, especially in a place where you're sunbathing and walking around in swimwear. If you want to participate in other activities, EXPECT TO PAY EXTRA! A LOT EXTRA for excursions and water sports that can run up to $79 USD for Catamaran trips and such. The resort is also more remote than other ones in Puerto Plata. If you want to see the local life, be prepared to pay for cab rides into town, otherwise, be content to stay within the confines of the resort. One last word of advice, the food is pretty bad. If you are accustom to fine foods, you will hate what the resort offers. Throughout the trip, I could only eat one or two items from the buffet because they were the only ones I found edible. If you are the type that enjoys going to whatever large buffet chain offering typical Americana style foods in your area, then you'll probably like it. I heard some people thought the food was great. But of course, that's relative to what you're used to. The only good thing about the trip was the weather - which remained consistently beautiful and salvaged my trip.
PS. Bring watersocks if you want to go in the ocean. The beach is pretty bad too.
Hiya I am 16 and have been on holiday to the Riu Mrenengue twice and am going back this year. It is brilliant. The animation team are fantastic could say nothing bad about them at all. They are all really friendly especially Johandy and the dancer Morissio. The food at the hotel is good and the rooms are really nice aswell. All the staff are really nice and would help you with anything. There is lots of sports for teenagers and a club for the younger children. The disco is really good. I would advise anyone to go there its amazing.

I spent 1 week at at the Riu Merengue just this December - what an experience. The resort is beautiful, the food was good, the rooms clean, and the service uncomparable to anything you would ever recieve in Canada. This resort is truly 5 stars!!
My wife Laura and I have just came back from Riu Merengue Hotel in the Dominican Republic and I just can say that we had the best holiday of our life.Everything is excellent:food, rooms, service and specially the staff, they pamper you!.There was an Assistant Manager in the Reception called Bismar Guzman that really made us feel special. He took care of everything when we arrive and helped us to choose the best trips in the country,he speaks english better than us!.If you go there, ask for him,he will do everything for you as he did for us,always with a smile. This hotel is the best where we have stayed in!,thanks.

... disgusting. I disinfected mine, but it still grossed me out. After we looked at all the fish up close, we had the opportunity to jump off the boat! I got some cool videos of that. I got sort of sunburnt, so a nice shower back at home base felt good after a busy day. Everyone got all dressed up, we ate dinner, then listened to a talk about how we can go further with GLA, 7 elements and the Dominican Republic. Lots of pictures were ...
... I bought some Gatorade just in case I got a little thirsty on the hike. Boy did I not know what was about to come. The first mile or so of the hike wasn't bad at all. It was basically flat and only had about two 100 foot steep inclines. Keep in mind, these inclined paths are not paved and the ground is mostly sand and large rocks that sit on the sand. After a mildly difficult first hour, I was informed we almost were at the halfway point. I was ...
... up the rocks right next to the water and then swam through different pools of water to reach the next one each time. Some looked kind of cave like and some were really open. We had to somehow get over and up each water fall so a lot of times the guides were essentially pulling us up and over the water...some pretty strong guys! Once we reached the 7th charco, it was time to go back down which ...
... we thought it would be nice to talk out some locals for a sunset sail. We cracked into our rum stores and pulled up the mud covered anchor and headed out. In our "enlightened" state with music going we headed out of the harbor, or so we though. For those who don't know Luperon Harbor had a large reef protecting it. It is apparent now that the Starboard side when leaving is the deeper side, the Port side is shallow.
With a small 3-6 foot ...
... They have just started reading “La Telarana de Carlotta”, well known in English as Charlotte’s Web. She also had a mural commissioned for the side of the library which she even helped in. They memorialized her in a way by putting her name on a book painted in the mural. We were invited to her host family’s house for lunch and to see their workshop where they make pottery and clay stoves. Rachele was placed with the host family for a short time ...
