      Fabulous

      from

Went in Feb. It very clean and the service was excellent. Every one was friendly and went out of their way to make you enjoy yourself. The food was out of this world, everything you could think of and displayed beautifuly. our room was very clean and we wanted for nothing. We went with another couple and they agree with us one of the nicest places to go.

      Exellent Holiday

      from

Had an excellent holiday at the Riu Merengue in May of 2000. We are going back to the Riu Merengue in September 2002. We had a fabulous time, Excellent food,Great entertainment, Fabulous weather. The hotel is the best we have stayed in and this is our 5th time to the Dominican Republic. If you want a luxurious and relaxing holiday go to the Riu Merenge.

      RIU MERENGUE EXCELLENTE!!

      from

I visited the hotel in July this year and had one of the best holidays I have ever been on...

The staff were excellent and entertained both me and my family for the two weeks of our holiday.

The food was very varied and was of a very good standard. Iam used to good food and this was of as high a standard as I am used to.

There was always something to do in the resort between the 3 hotels and there was always something new happening by the pool most days.

I could not fault the hotel in any way and again congratulations to the staff and management for running a wonerful hotel.

      RIU MERENGUE EXCELLENTE!!!!!!

      One perspective

      from

I just returned from a week at the Riu Merengue and wanted to offer my opinion of the resort. The service was decent in itself but the resort is only 5 star relative to what else is there in the Dominican Republic and not to other standards. Warning: IT IS NOT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE. If you are looking for a fun place with lots of activities, go elsewhere. The Riu complex is good for relaxing but not much else. The staff was helpful but the men were aggressive/perverted and it got a little irritating after a while, especially in a place where you're sunbathing and walking around in swimwear. If you want to participate in other activities, EXPECT TO PAY EXTRA! A LOT EXTRA for excursions and water sports that can run up to $79 USD for Catamaran trips and such. The resort is also more remote than other ones in Puerto Plata. If you want to see the local life, be prepared to pay for cab rides into town, otherwise, be content to stay within the confines of the resort. One last word of advice, the food is pretty bad. If you are accustom to fine foods, you will hate what the resort offers. Throughout the trip, I could only eat one or two items from the buffet because they were the only ones I found edible. If you are the type that enjoys going to whatever large buffet chain offering typical Americana style foods in your area, then you'll probably like it. I heard some people thought the food was great. But of course, that's relative to what you're used to. The only good thing about the trip was the weather - which remained consistently beautiful and salvaged my trip.

PS. Bring watersocks if you want to go in the ocean. The beach is pretty bad too.

      Amazing

      from

Hiya I am 16 and have been on holiday to the Riu Mrenengue twice and am going back this year. It is brilliant. The animation team are fantastic could say nothing bad about them at all. They are all really friendly especially Johandy and the dancer Morissio. The food at the hotel is good and the rooms are really nice aswell. All the staff are really nice and would help you with anything. There is lots of sports for teenagers and a club for the younger children. The disco is really good. I would advise anyone to go there its amazing.

... recommended by my guidebook. The place was actually more like a bed and breakfast with about 12 rooms in a large converted mansion behind the owner’s home. The hosts spoke English quite well and the price was right at about $25/night including a good breakfast. Oh, and they have a very adorable French bulldog and some cats to keep you company in the big entrance hall and dining area.

As far as I can tell, there was only one other guest that night, a Dutch man I met ...

quote I’ve heard referred to many times over the years as an explanation for
American support for brutal dictatorships around the world. For some reason I
thought the quote was Lyndon Johnson’s and had something to do with the Vietnam
War, but I recently learned those were actually Franklin D. Roosevelt’s words
and the ******* he was referring to was Rafael Trujillo.

We had to somehow get over and up each water fall so a lot of times the guides were essentially pulling us up and over the water...some pretty strong guys! Once we reached the 7th charco, it was time to go back down which ...

We went on boat ride out to Paradise island and snorkelled with the Monkey fish, a very fond memory!! (IF you don't have an underwater camera, spend the $5 to buy one, wish I had!!). This also included a stop at a Vigar factory which was interesting. We also ...

... was short and sweet. A lot of our tours take 2 hours, and when you can’t understand half of what is being said that’s a long time. We got back early and since my sickness started to kick in yesterday I got to take a great nap and talk to Mom and Harshil. We ended the night with going to the Rotary Club meeting. I’ve been to a couple of Rotary Club meetings and they are definitely more laid back here. When we arrived we were greeted with a choice of rum and coke or wine. ...
