From good to bad to alright to worse
... I have a girlfriend?" asks Jose, he recommends it. I remember there was a chair and some girls from the hostels were pouring tequila down the throats of any victim unlucky enough to end on the chair. Jose pushed me onto the chair 2 or 3 times. I think he was realizing he was out of his depth as we were going drink for drink. His cunning ploy definitely leveled the playing field. We stumble home sometime after 3, Jose having talked to precisely 0 girls. When we get home he ...

As we pulled onto the drive we could see something was definitely wrong with all the window steamed up. Kim came round to tell us we had had a leak yesterday and it had flooded the downstairs. Fortunately they noticed water coming out the front door and when they came in, they saw water pouring out from under the sink. Luckily Sean another neighbour whose a plumber was in and he came ...

... Spent the afternoon chillin on the beach with some peeps from the hostel. 90% of time on the said beach was spent hiding from the glorious sunshine under a palm tree to avoid any sun rays coming into contact with my firey skin. Spent most of my afternoon thinking how I´d have a new problem if one of the coconuts decided to fall on my head. After the beach I got insanely drunk at the hostel with some Danish girls playing a card game ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Riu Cancun
Great vacation spot
Muy excelente! New hotel, excellent staff, make all guests feel welcome. Food was excellent for an all-inclusive resort. Family friendly-atmosphere. Very well prepared for tropical storm CLAUDETTE. We only missed a few hours of sun time, while the hotel staff cleaned pool area and beach area. Our children 17m, 15f, and 11m all had an excellent time. We stayed 8 days and were ready for more! Excellent location with easy access to Cancun nightspots and markets. All staff were mucho friendly and helpful. Try a "crazy monkey" mixed by Daniel. Air-rifle target shooting, darts, water-polo, volleyball, water aerobics, windsurfing, sail a hoby cat or just sit back and relax and enjoy people watching. Very nice visitors from all over the world!
Great Time At The Riu Cancun
My wife and I just returned from a 5 night/6 day stay at the Hotel Riu
Cancun. Here are my opinions on it's postives and negatives:Positives -
Location: near shopping, popular nightclubs, resturaunts, etc. Hotel
Grounds - very well kept grounds, beautiful lobby, very nice
architecture. Hotel Staff - extremely friendly staff will go well out
of thier way to make your stay more enjoyable. Food - the food was
definately above average for all inclusive, and a nice variety too. 3
resturaunts on the hotel grounds. Activities - something for everyone.
4 pools to choose from meant that the rowdy crowd had a place to call
their own, and those of us looking for a little more relaxation had
ours as well. lots of paddle boats, snorkeling equipment, etc
available, so there was always a beach activity available.Negatives:
Construction - construction is taking place on new hotels on each side
of the Riu Cancun. Will be great when it's done, but for now it
clutters up the scenery, plus the consctruction crew spend half their
time gawking at the ladies at the pool, which my wife tells me is a
little uncomfortable. Crowded - the hotel was at capacity while we were
there, which meant that the pool and beach areas were crowded most of
the time. lines for the buffet resturaunts were not that bad, but if
you want a seat at the swim up bar, you'd better get there by 10:00 AM.
Elevators - okay, maybe this falls under the "crowded" category, but it
annoyed me enough that I felt that it merited seperate mention. the
hotel was at or near capacity, which meant that 600 plus rooms spread
over 16 floors in the main tower were all in use. with at least 2
guests per room, you had some 1200 - 1500 people staying in the main
hotel area. in this area there are only 4 small elevators to handle the
traffic. at meal times, or in the evening when people are coming and
going, the elevators are very packed and you often have to fight crowds
to get into the elevators. a minor inconvenience, but it when it
happens every day, it can be annoying.All-in-all, it was a very
enjoyable stay. As I said, the staff is extremely friendly, and the
hotel itself is beautiful. Despite a few incoveniences, I had a
fantastic stay at the Riu Cancun and I'd definately stay there again. I
talked to several people who payed more for other hotels who had a
worse stay, so I'm convinced that if you're visiting Cancun all
inclusive, there's not a better value than the Riu.
Fantastic
We recently returned from our 1week stay and it was Fantastic. We would
highly recommend this resort.
Great AI resort in Cancun
Just returned last week from Riu Cancun. The resort grounds and
buildings are great. The buffets offer a great variety of foods, but
was disappointed with the Corazone - the Brazilian style restaurant
which required reservations. The beach had seaweed in certain areas but
is cleaned every morning. The Riu Cancun caters mostly to families but
hopefully the Riu Palace Las Americas being built next door will offer
a bit more luxury upscale accomodations with less children. Overall a
great place to stay for the price.
Loved it
I just got back from a 1-week stay. My only complaint is the absence of
beach and pool food and beverage service! The kids club is open from
10.30-1 and from 3-5 each day. Every night there is mini disco for the
kids at 8.30 with dancing, competitions etc, and my 5 year old loved
it.The food was excellent, but gets a little boring after a few days.
Very Enjoyable!
My husband I and stayed at the Riu in Cancun the second week of June.
We had a junior suite in the annex facing the main pool and the ocean.
The entertainment at night left something to be desired, but the disco
was fun. Most of the younger guests went into the more popular clubs in
town at night. So, the hotel disco was a more mature crowd. You must
try a mojito! It's rum, tonic water, lime juice and fresh mint! The
food was good, but only buffet . Definetely not my choice of a romantic
vacation, but for fun in the sun this place is great!! We would highly
recommend this as a fun family vacation! The hotel and grounds are
beautiful and the staff was absolutely delightful. As a matter of fact,
out of all the hotels in the carribean we have stayed at, the staff
here outshines them all!
Great Hotel!
We stayed at the Hotel RIU Cancun and had a fantastic time. The hotel
is a brand new 5 star all inclusive hotel and is located next to the
malls and the major bars. I thought it was very elegent and clean was
totally worth it. The food was buffet, but was excellent from breakfast
to dinner. Everthing was fresh and hot off the grill. On a scale of 1
to 10 I would rate it close to a 10. I would say it would be similar to
or better than a very good Marriott type buffet with an enormous
selection of foods. All of the hotel rooms had a perfect Ocean view
(although there was a new condo building going up on the South side
which was in the construction stage, so stay on the North side if
possible until the condo's are built). The rooms were also very nice
and clean with a small balcony. They also had a small fridge stocked
with Corona, soda, and purified water which they re-fill every two
days, as well as a small open bar with 3 different types of Spirits
(however these were low quality spirits). There are 4 pools and one has
a swim up bar. The beer they serve is Corona and some of the spirits
are decent, ie Smirnoff, Jim Beam, Canadian Mist Whiskey, etc, however
there are alot that are of poorer quality. You can use the Hoby Cat's
or windsurfer boards on the beach. You need to take a $35 lesson to use
the Hoby Cat, but after that you can use it as much as you want for the
rest of your stay. There also had paddle boats, kayaks, boogie boards,
etc. They had different activities during the day such as volleyball,
spanish lesson's, and some pool games. There was also entertainment
every night from 10:00pm to 11:00pm which I thought was first rate.
Usually it was some type of dancing, which the dancers were well
trained and of professional caliber.Well that's about it, I think you
can't go wrong with this hotel and right now it's very reasonable
priced compared with all of the other 5 star hotels. I had a super time
and would definately go back and stay at this hotel again. Good luck
and have a great vacation.
Loved the new rui cancun
just returned from the New Rui in Cancun and would highly recommed this
resort. The lobby and lounges are breath taking. The food was pretty
good they have two Buffetts one is air-condtioned and the other is
open-air by the beach. They have three pools plus a small pool at the
swim-up bar with tables and chairs in the water. very nice. the quiet
pool is on one side of the resort however they are building a new
resort next door so those people have to look at the construction going
on but was never a problem. You have to have a reservation for one
resturant only and they serve brailion type food. There is no Iron or
coffee pot in the rooms but coffee was down in the lobby every morning
and they have irons at the front desk to borrow. all the rooms have a
small balconey and are very nice with mini-bar and liquer dispenser in
them.. this resort is with-in walking distance of everything.. There is
a Mall arcoss the street and down further is a huge Mexican out-let
store and then the flea market and another mall across from that--
Rain-forest cafe--hard rock cafe--ect. There is also on the 6th floor
of the lobby in the solarium a hot tub and chairs on the roof top.. We
will definitly return to this resort one day... Eileen
Absolutley Fantastic
The RIU cancun is brand new , just opened in May and we decided to take
a chance without knowing much about it or even really seeing what it
looked like but it had been rated as a five star. This place was by far
the nicest and cleanest most wonderfully decorated place in the hotel
zone what can I say the staff was great the food was great the beach is
absolutely stunning. even though we did not bring our children with us
this place even catered to them with there own area of swimming and
supervised activities even until late in the evening. there is plenty
of room to stretch out and do just about anything the resort area has
two main pools where mostly the younger crowd hangs out through the day
it has a swim up bar and loud music. there is another waterfall type
pool on the quiet side to just relax and jacuzzi . the views are great
from what we could tell all the rooms face the carribian side and have
balconies. the rooms themselves are always kept clean by housekeeping
just about the only negative i can think of was that they only replaced
the drinks in your bar every two days. but the liquer bar is always
kept full it consists of several large bottles of booze ( not american
booze ). there was one negative that bothered us there are two more
hotels being built on both sides of the RIU so during the day you have
to put up with men whisteling constantly down at the pool area but if
you go to the beach or pool bar area they cant see you and you cant
hear them . oh yeah it depends on what side you get your room in if its
near the construction area you might see a couple of peeping toms at
night on the construction building s we caught them trying to look in
rooms , but the hotel staff was great a moved us immediately even
though i dont think they could see in the rooms expecialy if you kept
the curtains shut or a least pulled. our travel agent told us that this
place will never be this cheap again and the only reason the price was
lower than most for a five star was that it was new and they were
trying to get the rooms filled for summer. I hope this review does you
some good . i know i read several about different hotels and they
helped me decide on a few but remember everybody has a different
expectation of what they should and should not get . This hotels ages
ranged from 18 to 80 and everybody seemed to be having a great time.
Quite Satisfied
I recently returned from a six day five night stay and my only concern
was the lack of adequate pool and beach umbrellas to protect you from
the intense sun. This is a new hotel and small quirks and kinks are
continuously being worked out. My only complaint is the absence of
beach food and beverage service !!!!! Other than this issue, you should
definitely be a "happy camper". I would definitely be a returning
guest. Pack your bags and get going...food, fun and entertainment
awaits you.
