... with an American professor from Cambridge University working on a project related to media after the Arab Spring. Her German assistant had also not realized that Tunisia was going to be closed for at least two days, if not more, so she wasn't happy, but the assistant was interesting in talking about how it sucked to be a single, foreign woman in Tunisia (she had lived there over a year). But, the airport was open to go to:

This morning we visited Monastir, which is just south of Sousse. The town has a fine ribat (fort) built by the Muslims to defend against the potential Christian invaders in the 10th century. It has been extensively restored & was used in "The Life of Brian" as a set. The major attraction apart from beaches is the Bourguiba mausoleum that he had built for himself during his long presidency. It houses the tombs of his family also & is ...

... There is bargaining going on everywhere.
The next day we went on a caravan trip on dromedaries, because there are no camels in nothern afrika. Camels only live in Asia. we learned something new as well. :-)
The week went by way too fast, but it was really nice and I learned my first word in arabic:
"shokran" which means thank you.

... spell had meant that we left Cornwall with plenty of time before the flight, in case of accidents on the road. Other airports around the country had either cancelled flights or delayed ones. Ours seemed to be ok and on time. Once we'd checked in, we sat in the departure lounge watching the breaking news story that Whitney Housten had died.

Despite the ice our flight left on time at around 5:45am. ...

    Fantastic week

Riu Bellvue Park Hotel Port El Kantaouie Tunisia - fantastic week - we stayed at this hotel for one week 3 -10 December 06 on arrival at the airport we were a little annoyed because we had to fill in forms for immigration, we felt these should have been given to us on the plane it would have saved us a lot of time and queing. once we arrived at the hotel it was brilliant the service was first class welcome drink on arrival cases taken to our room. free safe key. hotel room lovely and clean and furnishings throughout the hotel were lovely. food was really nice, couldnt complain about anything. Staff were very helpful and friendly nothing was too much trouble. we would definetly go back to this hotel again

Had a nice time in Tunisia!

We were a group of 10 and we had a great time. The hotel premises are very nice. The hotel suffered remodeling recently which was great. Our rooms were nicely done every day, including leaving fresh flowers in the bed. The hotel personnel were very nice and always tried to make us feel comfortable. The animation group was good and the night shows were also very nice. There was a great variety of foods which made it easier to satisfy the different people in our group.

This was the first time we stayed at a RIU and I definitely would recommend it to my friends.

I didn't liked this hotel. The service was bad, the food nothing special and i had many problems with my room, for example: i didn't had TV (the hotel didn't have the cable to turn into the TV in the first night), the reception didn't knew where was the safe key, we were 3 persons and we have to wait 3 hours for the thirth bed, the room wasn't clean when we arrived and we didn't have shampoo or gel for the shower.... i was very disappointed with this kind of service. I really don't recognize this kind of service in a RIU Hotel. It was very bad. The good things: a very nice beach, good beach sports; and nice shows at night.
