... called 'Peneros' to the sanctuary a marine ecosystem, which is very unusual. It was a perfect day, warm but not blazing sunshine, a comfortable heat. The little boat was surprisingly nifty going across the lagoon and slowed to a gentle pace to go down the canals, all the canals had names such as ………. Our boatman spoke no English but knew exactly where to find little treasures to share with us such as starfish ...

    ... hot walk back.

Research on the ferry website reveals I am unable to get a
boat to Cumana, my preferred destination, until Sunday – thought it was low
season here but apparently not until the end of the month and this place was

Yaque Motion is a bit of a walk but worth it for proximity to the sea, helpful
owner & staff, cleanliness, value (bsf500) and facilities – a bedside light
and some hammocks would be nice but that’s just being picky!

Then off for an all you can eat buffet breakfast at Sharks
to set me up for the day. Spoke to the ticket sellers about the day trip to el
Coche but they were not hopeful ...

Sunday is probably not the best day to travel especially on public transport, but given the rip off the local taxis are to the airport, just had to make sure I left in time. Flagging one down to get to the bus station and then finding the correct maxi taxi to the junction near the airport went fine. The problem is always the route taxis, identifying one in the first place – I just wave at any car and hope the ones in business stop, not ...
