... Then we happened upon "Art on the River" - a whole area filled with a wide variety of artists. We ate lunch at "Clingman's Cafe" and sat outside on a sunny patio - lovely! We spent the rest of the day exploring the artists' studios and meeting the artists. We returned home for a bit of down time and then a pot luck dinner with Jim and Sue in our NEW HOME. We'll add more pics as we download them from the ...

We left this morning around 8:50 - travelling to Ashville today. It was a lovely drive through the mountains. More colour in the trees than what we saw in the park. 15 degrees today!! Arrived at Lake Powhatan State park near Ashville around noon. Found 2 campsites, set up camp, had lunch and headed out for a hike on Mt. Mitchell. We wanted to go to the top of the highest point in the eastern states ( Mt. Mitchell 6647ft high). Upon ...

    Enloe Creek Falls

A travel blog entry by jmpncsu on Oct 25, 2014

Saturday morning, we woke up fairly early. This was the one time this week that we didn’t have to break camp first thing in the morning as we were staying here for two nights. From camp, we headed towards Cherokee on US-441 and turned onto Big Cove Road right past Oconaluftee Visitor Center. In about 5 miles, we turned onto Mingo Falls Bridge Road and parked at the trailhead for the waterfall. It’s only ...

There is one cousin I know of who speaks English. That is Luigi, who translated the letter his father sent to me that I mentioned in my previous entry. Luigi lives in Rome and will meet us at the train station tomorrow night. We have a full day in Rome - I don't know where Tammi and Diane will be, but I will be communing with the ancients in the Forum! ...

Before I Left the First Time, I Knew I'd Be Back

A travel blog entry by anngreen on Jan 10, 2014

... So I thought three weeks would work. I told Tammi. She said she'd ask for it but doubted she'd get it. When she did hear back, she called me and in a sad voice said, "Yea, I need to talk to you about the trip." I knew then she couldn't go, and I was wondering if I'd really go alone. She said, "I thought asking for two weeks would be pushing it; and that there was no way they'd let me go for three weeks." I said, "Yea I understand." ...
