Madeira
So our first proper Ocean Crossing - the 500+ NMs to Madeira
5/10 we refuelled and left cascais at 0930
wind weak and we only managed 50 nms in first day
6/10 light wind all day to windward we managed just over 80- nms a new high pressure area was forming stronger than forecast - bugger
7/10 wind dropping but had obviously reached cetacean central, we had 3 pods each of more than 12 common ...
Gorgeous Madeira

Well this is day 2 in Madeira. It is a
lovely place with lots of history. Sorry mom it is up hill both ways
again. It has been around since the 1400's. The first hotel was
built here then by an Englishman. They actually had geothermal
electricity in 1896. They had street lights then, and I think we
were still in huts... well maybe not, but certainly not as far
advanced as they were.

Made it to Funchal
... out for dinner tonight and review all of our holidays. We are going to take the on and off bus tomorrow and the next day. Not sure when I will get photos. Maybe tonight at dinner. But at least once this week. It is not cheap here, a breakfast buffet, not very good, was 12 euros. So we are going to just drink beer and Madeira wine. hahaha. Anyway, until later. ...

... Antlantikreise vielen seiner Zeitgenossen schien, ganz so abwegig war er nicht. Es gab einige Indizien für eine Landmasse im Westen. Wenn man einmal von den antiken und wohl eher allegorisch gemeinten Quellen wie Aristoteles und Platon (Atlantis!) absieht, gab es immer noch die Gerüchte der Vikingerfahrten - die Kolumbus eventuell einige Jahre zuvor bei einer Reise in den Norden aufgeschnappt hatte. Viel deutlicher boten sich auf Porto ...
