Great times here.

Honeymoon

When Trevor and I arrived at the airport in the Dominican the airport staff stopped us and took our picture. The idea was to purchase the picture on your way back home. I have never seen anything like this before on our travels. A bus was waiting for us outside and we were transported to our resort. We were then escorted to our little cottage on the beach. Surprisingly, a golf course was located between the ocean and our cottage....fore! We were told, during orientation, not to drink too man...

My family and I have been to Jack Tar several times now over the past 3 years. The service you receive is very good, rooms clean, spotless grounds and good food. The entertainment are fantastic! there is no other word to describe them. Eddy, Reggy, Coco and everyone else we have met over the past few years go out of their way to make your stay one you will always remember. We did the catarmaran trip with freestyle and the jeep safari tour with outback safari - ANGEL you are fab! We made some fabulous friends whilst we were out there from Canada and of course, the Dominican Republic. I would recommend Jack Tar any day. ALL the staff make sure your stay is unforgetable. You will want to return as we have done several times over the past few years and will continue to do so.

Heavenly Pampered Bliss........

Had 1st 2 weeks of November 2002 8.25 hrs away from UK in the Dominican Republic. Loved every minute of our holidays. My partner is vegetarian and there was no shortage of fabulous food for both of us. The staff were a delight, especially Amarylis in the piano bar. Would recommend Jack Tar to anyone. Will be back someday soon.....

Home Away From Home!

We visited Jack Tar in Feb. of this year and had such an amazing time, that two days after returning from paradise, we decided that another trip back to Puerto Plata was a necessity. We booked and returned at the end of May. Many say that a trip back to the same resort is not a good idea - but I beg to differ. Our visit back to the Jack Tar was even better than the first - and we didn't think that could be possible. The grounds of the resort were spotless. The rooms were nice - not extravagant, but who needs lavish, when really all you do is sleep in them. Why waste anytime indoors when you could be relaxing by the quiet pool or getting crazy at the activity pool. The food was great with a lots of selection, but our favourite place was the Italian restaurant. The location of the resort couldn't be better - a minute walk from the beach, and a ten minute walk to the shopping plaza. The casino is usually always busy, and the disco, although not the busiest place, was always a tonne of fun. The shows at night were good, very entertaining. I must admit the best part of the whole trip, and Jack Tar Village are the people that work their. The members of the staff were truly beautiful people, who would go out of your way to ensure you were having a good time. They treated us like princesses. By the end of the second day of our first trip, pretty much every employee we encountered new us by first name, which is always nice. And when we returned the second time, they all remembered us by name, and were very excited to see us again. The Sun Tan Bar crew (Amaurus in particular) always made sure our drinks were fresh, and full. The Fun Club Activity Staff were amazing. Eddy, Coco, Reggie, Roberto, Rudy, David, Angelo, (the list goes on), were by far the highlight of our trip. They worked their butts off to keep us entertained. They put on tonnes of activities throughout the day, so there was never a dull moment. Whether it was a water aerobics, ring toss, bicycle tours, etc. they did their best to make sure we were having a good time, (and stock our liquor cabinets with bottles of rum as prizes). And if you didn't want to get involved, they would leave you be. I have been back home now for a little over a month, and I already have an itch to return to Puerto Plata, Jack Tar Village. It was heaven on earth, with great food, drinks, weather, music, and people. I am already looking forward to our next trip. Diane

Fantastic

Just back a few days and still missing the Jack Tar and Dominican republic very much. No kids policy is wonderful, Location is great, not to far from plaza, Glof Great, Food and Drink Superb, Beach a tad windy but absolutely Gorgeous, Great location compared to other 4/5 star hotels mainly the Iberostar which isn;t in the main estate of hotels but outside on main road. Staff are wonderful and so helpful. Rooms are typical carribean e,g, your not going to get anywhere near your Hilton/Holiday Inn fittings but you only really use your room for sleeping in rather thhan living 24/7. Will be back soon. No Surrender Jack Tar Village.

Wonderful!

Definitely work the price

I stayed in the Jack Tar in June 2002. All and all, the trip was a lot of fun, the staff was very friendly, ammenities were good, and the location was nice. I wouldn't recommend it for the under 30 singles crowd, as it was primarily older married couples. Pretty low key with a nice quiet pool. The disco was regretable. The staff was great except the many people who try to get you to visit other resorts or sign up for extra activities. They're nice enough but it got old after the first day. Food was decent with a good variety to keep you busy. The seafood rest. was great. Pizza by the second pool highly recommended as an easy lunch option. Get out of the resort and take an inexpensive cab ride around town. Our cabbie stopped and stayed with us while we shopped and saw the sights for no extra charge. Helps if you speak Spanish if you intend to leave the resort. I'd go back to the DR in a heartbeat.

Time for a facelift

Feb'03. We just returned from a 7 night trip to Jack Tar. We had never been to the Dominican Republic, but have been to many adults only all-inclusive resorts. The trip itself was very relaxing, we had only 1 1/2 rainy days out of 7 days - weather was beautiful. Regarding the resort: Beach - the beach was nice. We went on long walks and ejoyed the beaches. Resort Pools - looked fine, but really small.Rooms - the rooms were extremely outdated and needed a lot of fixing. We did get lizard type things in our room because there are openings below the doors. Although, we did keep a rug up against the patio door to keep the critters away. I liked the bungalow setting. I believe the rooms were proabably quite beatiful 10-15 years ago. Reataurants - the main buffet was nice but needed a little more variety and selection of food. For the health conscious or someone who has allergies to any types of food (dairy, breads, etc) this is not the place to go. The 3 ala carte restaurants were very good, except I preferred the la yola and papayas over carusos. I was very displeased with being able to only book at each of these retaurants only once during the week because each night we were at any of these 3 restaurants there were many tables open. The desserts were good if you liked custand and mousse - not much else. Stay aware from the red wine - very bad. Entertainment - similar to other all-inclusive resorts. Yet not an issue because we understand this is not Hollywood. Staff - very nice. I only know a little Spanish and believe we would have gotten better service if my Spanish would have been better. Many of the staff know very very little English. Gym - we were told there was a fitness center at this resort. We would have went somewhere else if we would have known the kind of fitness center it really was - not nice or adequate to work out in. We did do some running and basketball/tennis, but were not correctly informed on the gym setting. This really needs to be updated! Tours - We did the Freestyle Catamaran one day. It costs $69 US dollars and was great. I would recommend that to anyone (book with your tour guide). Anniversary - if you are planning your wedding anniversary here - make sure you check with someone when you arrive. They botched up our request - not a big deal, but none the less important to us. Don't forget your mosquitto repellant - much worse than mosquitos in Minnesota (meaning, really bad!). In summary, this resort was rated a 4 by MLT vacations. This is definitely over-rated and should at most be a 3. We will definitely not be going back to this resort or Puerto Plata, but maybe try Punta Cana (but not an Occidental Allegro resort again). Glad to be home!

Making another trip to Jack Tar

We really enjoyed the Jack Tar in Puerto Plata. We vacationed there in August 02 and we are going back in March 03. The staff is very helpful and we found the food to be quite good. The rooms are small but clean. Another good this about the Jack Tar in Puerto Plata and Cancun is that they are Adults only..

Wonderful Resort

Just returned from a 4 night stay in Jack Tar Village-Puerto Plata. The resort was wonderful. The staff could not do enough for you. Whether it was the front desk, pool staff, bartenders, waiters or the housekeepers, everyone always had a smile on their face. Restaurants offered many choices. Rooms at the village were very nice, clean and the a/c worked great. The grounds of the resort were spotless. The entire staff saw to it that you were having a great tiime. Would go back in a heartbeat. Even won some money in the casino. My wife and I will be back. The Dominican people are extremely friendly.
