... that night.
Day 2: Over the last month we had grown used to the morning wake up call of the rooster, but given this was a city of nearly 2 million this one came unexpected. After breakfast we decide to head to City Centre, but once getting there we quickly realize there are no sky scrappers only the odd office building here and there. So where do "we" decide to go next...another mall, this time Braga. We didn't stay long ...
... I tell her that the hotel has definitely reserved the seat for me and in fact the company had called the hotel back for a change of schedule. So they tell me there is a bus leaving at 5 pm and I tell them that is too late and ask them to phone the hotel to come and pick me up. Anyway there is a 15 -20 minute back and forth and all of a sudden the driver is showing up to pick me up within minutes!!! By 1:40 I am on the bus that has 1 ...
Bandung, West Java, Indonesia bowtie... the angkot behind us has the word "stesion" on it so again I go to the driver and ask if he is going to the train station. Again, I think we have understood each other and I get on. I have no idea where I am going but I do end up at the train station which is only a street from my hotel!!!!! Amazing!!! I breath a sigh of relief and briskly walk to the hotel while thinking that it was indeed quite a lovely day.

... t talk much on the way down as we were feeling pretty jaded, Robbie nearly hurt himeself a couple of times but was ok. My mind was wandering and I was going on empty. After 3 hours we reached Cibodas, Hardy stopped off at Freddy's with us and we said goodbye to him and thanked him for a great job. We both slumped in our bed for a while, before summoning a smidgeon of strength to take a shower. We headed downstairs for our dinner; special fried rice and chatted and joked. From ...
Cibodas, West Java, Indonesia leehorscraft... alley of market stalls -- to find the bemo to Ciater. This is where it gets hairy. And yes, I admit, for the first time in this trip, I was scared. Shopkeeper faces were unsmiling. They turned their backs on me as I walked by. Once again, I am the only bule, but this long ago ceased to concern me, as wherever I travel in Indonesia it is often the case and yields great rewards and hospitality. Not here. I ...
Bandung, Java, Indonesia wandering_man... an hour away. Every morning she wakes up, cleans her house, and watches TV with her grandmother all day. She can't afford to go anywhere or do anything. The Javanese teacher responded to my ignorance by telling me that unlike Canadians, people in Java have no choices open to them. If someone put a job infront of them and said do it, they would, but there is no work and no jobs. He said, they are very very bored and often unhappy. I realized the contrast. On any ...
Bandung, Java, Indonesia taralyra... has everything a traveller wants: Beach and waves, nature and animals, good restaurants, sights in the vicinity for daytripping, etc. We changed our schedule accordingly, so that we could stay there for five nights. A thirty-minute walk from our homestay (a beautiful and quiet villa with huge rooms) took us to the National Park. On Sunday the park was full of indonesia tourists, and monkeys. We quickly found out, yet again, that the monkeys are keen on finding any food you ...
Bandung, Indonesia mchavez... of the path leads trough bushes, but then we end up walking on rocks, stones, gravel and grit. The ground is bare here. The guide tells us that the volcano erupted in November 2002, and that we're looking at what used to be the parking lot. He shows us a picture of a beautiful green hill, with a crater lake. The old crater is totally filled with grit, and a bit to the left, we see the new crater. The sky is clearing up, so that we can see the ...
