Whew!!! We made it. 10 1/2 hours in the air, an incredibly long march through the expansive Frankfurt airport with a very tight connection (they closed the gate immediately after we walked through), a short hop to Geneva, and a shuttle ride to Annecy. All told...17 hours of travel. It wasn't planes, trains, and automobiles...more like shuttle, train, plane, forced march, bus, plane, and shuttle. But we are settled in our first stop, Annecy, and one of our favorite little villages in France. We've cruised through a couple times before this trip, but this is the first time we get to hang out for a few days. We took a walk around the lake and the old city this afternoon, and we'll do a bit more exploring tomorrow. It looks like we have a basilica, a cathedral, and some more of the old city on the agenda at this point.
But for now, we are enjoying a bottle of champagne and some fruit in our room, followed by dinner at the brasserie here on the hill above the lake. We expect to sleep well tonight.

Update: had a nice day in Annecy. Even saw the chateau museum that the guidebook said was open every day except August 15. It was August 15. Big california/Russian wedding party at the hotel made for an interesting evening on Saturday. Bike trip started Sunday, will post separately about that.

The old town was gorgeous, along a canal which leads to the lake. Just so pretty!!
We went for a drive to the other side of the lake to Tallories, its probably the nicest area we saw, a bit more low key, but lovely houses and gardens. We found a cafe by the lake ...
A beautiful sunny day greeted us so we extended our stay in Chamonix in order to visit the Ice cave in the glacier.
However first there was breakfast to attend to. Rami wanted a hot breakfast so the only option after a tour of the town was to cook one ourselves. Fortified by sausage, eggs, bread and croissants we were ready for action.
We took the Montenvers train up into the mountains to 1900 feet. From there it was a cable car ride down the mountain and then ...
... the tram back to Geneva CBD, walked around the lakeside, had a drink lakeside then back to room for a rest. Dinner at Chinese restaurant opposite the train station. Went to Brittania pub for a show - ACDC cover band, not very good. Very cold ...
Breakfast in room, picked up our tickets from the train station and changed some money from CHF to Euro. Walked to lake Geneva, took a boat ride on the lake - very cold out on the lake. Lunch at Burette Les Bains, a hidden gem on Lake Geneva. Walked to Old Geneva Town then back to our room for a ...
