Whew!!! We made it. 10 1/2 hours in the air, an incredibly long march through the expansive Frankfurt airport with a very tight connection (they closed the gate immediately after we walked through), a short hop to Geneva, and a shuttle ride to Annecy. All told...17 hours of travel. It wasn't planes, trains, and automobiles...more like shuttle, train, plane, forced march, bus, plane, and shuttle. But we are settled in our first stop, Annecy, and one of our favorite little villages in France. We've cruised through a couple times before this trip, but this is the first time we get to hang out for a few days. We took a walk around the lake and the old city this afternoon, and we'll do a bit more exploring tomorrow. It looks like we have a basilica, a cathedral, and some more of the old city on the agenda at this point.
But for now, we are enjoying a bottle of champagne and some fruit in our room, followed by dinner at the brasserie here on the hill above the lake. We expect to sleep well tonight.

Update: had a nice day in Annecy. Even saw the chateau museum that the guidebook said was open every day except August 15. It was August 15. Big california/Russian wedding party at the hotel made for an interesting evening on Saturday. Bike trip started Sunday, will post separately about that.
It's been a hectic few days, getting ready for this trip, but finally I'm on my way! Pegasus Airlines cancelled my Istanbul to Konya flight and I didn't find out till late Sunday! Managed to rebook for the next morning (Wed) and find a room in the airport hotel. Now I'm on my way ...
... off admiring the Matterhorn and surrounding mountains, marvelling at the weirdness of swimming in the Swiss alps........ they tell me it was freezing, but to be expected.
Home again, up the 150 steps, mike in the kitchen, rest time, cards, drinks, dinner and bed.
... Lake which was great fun, and the kids took turns steering, so we went around in circles a bit! Excellent weather while here. One night of rain but sunny and warm during the day. Our campsite had an aqua park for the kids, with jacuzzi for the adults. Shame the water was still a bit cold, as the nights do get quite cold still. All had a great time though. Loads of parasailing to be seen off the mountains. Must have been an amazing experience.
... out and we were at last able to take some lovely photos thank goodness because it's so very beautiful there.
