First off, let me point out that I'm typing this on a foreign keyboard, so please excuse any misspellings or foreign letters. You have no idea how much time it takes to type these up when the keyboard is so unfamiliar and contains characters like þ ð ý ç & ü that are in place of the American alphabet keyboard that I'm used to. also, I'd like to make you aware that some of the countries I've been lucky enough to visit are under serious distress currently - Specifically Croatia and Greece. ...

... prayer calls. The five times daily calls are not only loudly amplified, they are often phoned in. Actually, phoned in. It took a while to catch on, but in several, mostly smaller towns we visited, the singing was the same blasting out of distant minarets. Maybe a half second of delay to them but definitely the same. At the end, if you listen carefully, you can hear the telltale sound of a cell phone hanging up. Brilliant ...
Istanbul, Turkey hugoanddenis... I looked at her like a deer in headlights for a few moments to absorb the shock then explained to her that leaving half my belongings in a Turkish airport was not an option. The girl beside her recognized me from the day before and started to laugh. She could see that I my attempts to travel in Turkey had gone fowl and took pity on me. She said something to my check in lady and they let my ...
Istanbul, Turkey bunnyluv1969... Express. I had managed to book my trip at the highest season in Istanbul when all the hotels were booked. After checking in, I found my room wasn't ready. I waited for a bit, and then got impatient and decided to go to the harbor to get my ferry ticket. Upon my return, the room still wasn't ready. So I left my bags and made my way to the ship that would take me up the Bosphorous River close to where it meets the Black Sea.
Istanbul, Turkey dctravelbug... with views north from the Bosphorus Bridge linking Europe and Asia south to the Sultanahmet area of the city with its distinctive skyline of the city's oldest and largest mosques. Even the bathroom had a view (and a TV). The room was very cool. This room was in the original building -- a converted mansion. The windows were huge niches that you could stand in. Great for hide and seek. Just a grand room with state ...

Istanbul, Turkey ashbyers... next time will be better.....riiiiiiighhhhhttttttt. My (Lauren) experience was similar, but I had the good fortune of running into some English-speaking women before getting thrown into this experience. All I could think of was that after a week on a sailboat with only the allotted 3-minute shower, a Hamman was just what the doctor ordered. Apart from feeling as though I was being water boarded when they were washing my hair and/or ...
Istanbul, Turkey laurenandyWe thought Palmyra was loud! There, we at least had a buffer of a few metres...but here, the minaret was within spitting distance. We would have heard him without the microphone I reckon...but luckily he had nothing on Palmyra on length and originality. We really enjoyed Istanbul, it was warm and sunny and the sights were many. Viewed the usual spots - Aya Sofia, Blue Mosque (where there was some significant chanting taking place for Mohammed's birthday...even though ...

Istanbul, Turkey riverrunner... simit and threw some to the seagulls, we wrote postcards. We went to a park and went to a ferry back to the hotel. I played a game with my dad on the way back. It's called "I'm going on a picnic." How you play it is, the first person says, "I'm going going on a picnic and I'm going to bring..." and they have to say something that begins with A and then B and then C. They keep taking turns. But if one of them doesn't ...
